  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:18 PM) As of right now, this player is Jayson Nix. The 40man roster is at 40, and there is no place for any additions. On the other hand a trade might be happening soon, to mix it all up. Yea, I think you're right. I think this team is more versatile than Kenny Hates Prospects thinks, this is how I see the team: Lineup/Starters: 1. Juan Pierre (LF) (backup CF) 2. Beckham (2B) (backup 3B) 3. Carlos Quentin (RF/DH) 4. Konerko (1B) (some time at DH) 5. Jones (DH) (backup LF/CF/RF) 6. Rios (CF) (backup RF) 7. AJP © 8. Alexei (SS) 9. Teahen (3B) (backup 1B/LF) Bench 10. Koskie (1B/RF/LF) 11. Nix (2B/SS) 12. Vizquel (2B/SS) 13. backup catcher (I think Flowers should be in AAA for seasoning) Rotation 14. 1. Peavy 15. 2. Danks 16. 3. Floyd 17. 4. Buehrle 18. 5. Garcia Bullpen 19. Long Relief: Torres (Hudson in AAA) 20. Loogy: Williams 21. MR: Linebrink 22. MR: Pena 23. Set-up: Putz 24. Set-up: Thornton 25. Closer: Jenks If not this, then I can see an alternate scenario where Torres is in AAA along with Hudson to wait in the wings in case Garcia falters in the 5th starter role and the Sox get a big left-handed bat such as Adrian Gonzalez or Dunn, which would relegate Jones to the bench.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) I just heard Kenny has a guy in mind and he's in discussion to get him. I don't have anything more than that and anything else I add would be pure speculation. I think he'll make one more hard push at Adrian Gonzalez, but I don't think San Diego is ready to let him go. I honestly don't know who it will be, but I got a sneaking suspicion it won't be anyone we have speculated too heavily about. There just aren't a lot of FA options out there, so you'd have to think the club is looking to go the way of a trade. Would it be logical to speculate that it could be someone like Adam Dunn? hmmmmm :-?
  3. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) Even with the Dodgers paying part of the salary, I think they just wanted to unload him. So, McCulloch and Infante would be enough to part with Pierre. Plus, keep in mind the White Sox did the Dodgers a solid in the Thome deal. They got Thome for practically nothing, this is part 2 of that deal. Great point.
  4. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) Cowley is probably making light of Kenny's absolute failure of an offseason so far. Every other contender is doing big things while Kenny is loading up on complimentary players. The Sox are out of money already and there's still no RF or DH, but don't worry because Jenks, Linebrink, and Konerko are all still here sucking up salary. I'm willing t give Kenny some slack because 2 of his biggest off-season moves were already made during the 2009 season: Jake Peavy and Alex Rios.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 02:08 AM) There seems to have been a falling out between Arredondo and the Angels. He's an interesting candidate, but he's going to miss all of next year due to the Tommy John surgery he had just 4 days ago. Ouch! Now that I know that, I think I'd pass on Arredondo now. I'll jump on the Cust bandwagon.
  6. I'd love it if the Sox would get Jose Arredondo. I think he would be nasty in our bullpen and I'm shocked he was non-tendered.
  7. Like others have posted in this thread, I too thought it looked like a portal, especially when I watched the video. It almost looked like a lot of the portals depicted in the Mortal Kombat video games, lol. It would've been cool to jump in and see if it'd take you to Edenia or the Outworld.
  8. lol, I thought this was gonna be some kinda ugly wife thread.

    Vegas

To the OP, I don't think you and I have the same interests because you seem to want to go to all these nightclubs and bars. I actually can't stand nightclubs and bars, but I DO like strip clubs. I've gone to Vegas twice (in 2006 and 2007), so here's some of the thinks I've seen/done that you might be interested in if you want other stuff to do: (Before I forget, bring a hoodie or a light jacket, it can be a little chilly in Dec/Jan) *Clubs: As I said, I hate nightclubs, and one nightclub I went to was a club called Jet. It was super-lame and a big waste of my time. They even had dancers dressed up in easter bunny outfits (in December) dancing on the stage. Lame. I didn't go to many other clubs, tho, cause I spent most of my time at the poker tables. *Strip Clubs: I think the best strip club in Vegas with the hottest girls is the Olympic Garden strip club right on Las Vegas Blvd inbetween the main strip and Fremont. It's located near a lot of quickie wedding chapels and it's on the same side of the street as Sahara, Harrahs, Flamingo, etc. The lst time I went to Olympic Garden, the midget guy from Jackass was there having a fun time as well. It was awesome. I also went to lame strip clubs called Treasures and Deja Vu and it was very lame. At Treasures the dancers doesn't even grind on you, and Deja Vu is always crowded and has ugly girls. *Buffets: My two favorite buffets are at Planet Hollywood and Bellagio. They are both also among the most expensive buffets in Vegas at about $50 bucks. Be prepared to bring extra money for buffets for your girlfriend if you're not planning on going dutch. The Bellagio buffet is unbelievable and I'm still craving their delicious BBQ'd Swordfish. Also, whenever you see gelato (looks like ice cream) at buffets at Vegas, try it, it's delicious. Poker: If you like poker, Caesar's Palace has a real nice poker room that's so big with so many tables that it would take your breath away. They also have cool giant black-and-white portraits of all the poker greats on the walls. I was able to name all of them except for two or 3. The Venetian also has a nice poker room as well and both the Venetian and Caesar's has some of the best $300 poker tournaments in Vegas. Treasure Island also has a nice poker room, but I thought it was a little too small and dark for my tastes. Planet Hollywood had a real nice poker room in 2007, but they've since moved the poker room to another part of the casino. MGM Grand also has a very nice poker room. You can also play cheap low stakes poker right on the sidewalk at O'Shea's. Other casinos has average poker rooms, but nothing too spectacular. Most of my time in Vegas was spent at poker rooms playing tournaments. Usually I played a tournament at one casino then went to another casino for another tournament and so on. Fremont: Away from the strip, with just a bus ride, is Fremont, the old part of Vegas. If you go there, make sure you go to Mermaid's for their deep-fried twinkies and deep-fried oreos. Believe me, they'e delicious. Just don't make the mistake I did of eating them before you go to the buffet at the Bellagio, because it will fill you up. If you're in Fremont around midnight, you can go to a restaurant in Binion's for their $3.99 steak and egg mignight special. You can also play games like roulette for the lowest stakes at Fremont. Also, make sure you catch the light show they have with their lighted canopy. It's pretty awesome. Transportation: Unless you're planning on going to places far from the Strip or Fremont, the only times you should need a taxi is when you're going to and from the airport. Use the double-decker buses that make their rounds up and down the strip, you can get a 24-hour pass for $5 and ride as many times as you can. I suggest you ride the bus at least once at night time when all the lights from the casinos look their best, it's an awesome view and it's almost like driving through a neightborhood looking at christmas lights. There's also another form of transportation, the Monorail, but it costs more. The monorail is connected to most of the casinos on one side of the strip, such as Harrah's, Flaningo, Bally's, MGM, etc. It's quicker than the bus, but you gotta try and find the stops. Shopping: There's shops and vendors all over Vegas, but I think your girlfriend might have a fun time browsing the shops in Caesar's Palace and the Fashion Show Mall, located between Caesar's and Treasure Island. One thing about Caesar's Palace, I was wandering around by myself one time checking out all the shops and I got lost and couldn't find my way out of the place. It was that big. Stripper/Escort cards: if you walk along casinos like Flamingo and Imperial Palace, you'll come across a lot of people (usually mexicans) trying to hand you little business cards advertising the services of strippers and escorts. Have fun collecting them, they make fun little novelty trading cards. Amusement Rides: If you wanna ride a roller coaster or some other thrill rides, go to casinos like the Stratosphere or New York New York. It's pretty fun. If you wanna ride little kiddie rides or play midway games, go to Circus Circus. You can also see some shows at various casinos such as Penn and Teller at Rio or you can go to the Madam Tusaud's wax museum at the Venetian, or even ride on a gondola on canals at the Venetian as well. Now, the last time I went there was before City Center was built, so I don't know anything about City Center, but I'm pretty sure there's lots of stuff you can explore there. You'll have a blast, and there's lots of stuff you can do there besides just going to clubs and bars and getting drunk.
  10. I think Uggla can be had for a package of prospects like: Shelby, Morel, Retherford, and Santos.
  11. I was off on Thanksgiving, but I got a loooooong weekend ahead. I'm working 2pm-10pm on Black Friday, 5am-2pm on saturday, then 10am-7pm on Sunday. I hate starting 5am shifts right after 10pm closing shifts.
  12. Hey everyone, sorry to bring a thread back from the dead, but... It seemed that my photoshopped pic of a white guy's head over Dye's body was prophetic, because I just noticed on the official White Sox website that they actually photoshopped Peavy's head on Dye's body in the same picture!!!
  13. I like this signing, I think this is a great low-risk/high reward situation. I also think a bench consisting of Jones/Vizquel/Kotsay/Nix is a LOT better than a bullpen consisting of Cintron/Mackowiak/Ozuna. I'd take Jones, Kotsay, and Nix over Cintron and Mackowiak every day.
  14. I actually wouldn't mind if the Sox got Coco. If we can get him for less than 8 million, prolly less than 5 million, then I'm all for it. Also, for those who keep saying Coco sucks because he had a .228 batting average last year: he got hurt in June, small sample size. Coco Crisp actually has the same career batting average as Scott Podsednik, .277. I'm willing to wager that if Coco plays next year that his average will be anywhere in-between .228 and .277. I'd be a little concerned about his shoulders, so I think I would prefer him playing left, Quentin in right, and Rios in center.
  15. I don't mean to bring up a subject everyone already beat to death last season, but I'll be honest, I wish we still had Brandon Allen. Lets just assume that the Adrian Gonzalez rumor will never happen... we could've simply traded Konerko this offseason for a grab-bag of 2 or 3 relievers and then start the 2010 season with Brandon Allen at 1st base. It just seems like Brandon Allen would've served us well as a lefty first baseman if we cannot get Adrian Gonzalez, and that Konerko could've gotten us better relievers than Tony Pena, not to mention more than one reliever that could've pretty much plugged up our bullpen.
  16. I recommend this place called Buca's. They serve communal food, which ought to be plenty for a party of 4. It's mainly italian style, too. I'm only familiar with the location in Orland Park, tho, but I think there's another location somewhere.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) Jason Kubel continues to be forgotten by casual baseball fans. He is a BEAST. I totally agree. Kubel is the type of player I wish the Sox had right now. Too bad we can never get him.
  18. QUOTE (DGSOXFan14 @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 01:58 AM) Just read this article about the love and pride Chicago has for its sports and thought you guys might wanna read it... My love letter to Chicago sports Thanks for sharing the link, man. It was a fun read.
  19. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 08:42 AM) Wow. If that was true I am pathetic. The fact that I would try to make a "thread of the year" before creating a thread. And secondly that this would be my attempt. I wanted advice but thanks for your input. lol, lets all be realistic here, NOTHING can beat "It's about my penis..."
  20. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 09:34 AM) wait, did you post this while on the can? Thematically that could be post of the year worthy Actually... I posted my very first message on this thread from the can. I checked the toilet seat prices on my way to the bathroom at work. And I'm actually on the can right now as I'm posting THIS message.
  21. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) On a semi related note, how great is pooping at work? Something about literally being paid to defecate makes me feel like I've won. My manager keeps telling me he wants me to punch out whenever I go to the bathroom because he thinks I take too long. What he doesn't know is that while I'm on the toilet at work, I'm using my cell phone and visiting sites like Soxtalk.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 07:17 PM) Seriously though isn't that the right move? We heed a hopefully LH, Power hitting DH in this lineup to add some more pop. There's like a dozen of them on the market if you count the right-handed guys. There's not going to be a run on them, they're going to be available in late jan/early Feb just like Abreu and Hudson were last year, why not wait a little bit until the contracts for these guys shake out? I agree, I also hope it won't be Thome, but someone else that we can get at a great bargain. I also wouldn't be opposed to getting someone else to man 1st base and split DH time with Konerko.
  23. Ugh, please no. I don't want any more of Thome on the White Sox. I'm sick of seeing his groundouts to first base.
