  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) Anyone have any predictions for his performance tonight? I'll go with 6 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 3 K, W I hope he does better than my prediction: 4 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 8 hits, 6 BB's, 2 K's, ND
  2. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) My predicted line for Freddy tonight: 5 1/3, 1 run, 5 hits, 2 BBs, 5 Ks. I think its going to be a good debut. Here's my prediction: 4 2/3, 5 runs, 8 hits, 6 BB's, 2 K's. I hope he does a lot better than that.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) Most likely Wise... They haven't made the official transaction yet or at least I don't think. Last Sox player to wear 43 was Damaso Marte. *Gulp Did they already send Lillibridge down? Or is he still with the team?
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) Does Bobby have the day off or something? I don't like the idea of using Dotel here... Where's Thornton? Usually if you take a lefty pitcher out, you should put a righty pitcher in to mix things up more. And vice versa if it was a righty pitcher, too. I think Dotel's the man for this situation.
  5. I LOVE the classic jerseys the Sox are wearing today. I like how it's the classic style done on a modern jersey, I wish they would make this their 4th alternate jersey. Anyone have any idea where I can get a jersey like this? With either no name or my name/number on the back? The mlb shop site only has the replica of the old one with an ugly collar instead of the more modern jersey/classic logo look the Sox are wearing today.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) No he was awful and his pitches had nothing. In that inning where Alexei committed that error when he tried to get that ball that should've been caught by Nix, Contreras ended that inning with a strikeout. That tells me he still has something.
  7. Wow, as for the paintball thing, once me and 2 of my friends were playing a 3 vs. 2 game against 2 cops and I got shot up real bad. I was also shot in my inner thigh, and later that night when I was changing my clothes I noticed that the paintball missed my right testicle by just 2 inches. Ever since then, I always wore a cup, lol.
  8. Bad nicknames? How about... Bartolo Colon: Chubbs Matt Thornton: Thorntonator Gavin Floyd: Opie AJ Pierzynski: Blondie Jake Peavy: Leave it to Peaver
  9. I'm willing to give Jose a pass for this start, because the defense was atrocious. Remember when Alexei made that error on that ball Nix could've caught for an out? That error made Jose throw more pitches that inning, but he was able to end that inning with a strike-out. That tells me he still has it. But it didn't help him any that Q had an error on a ball that should've been caught by Rios for another out, and that Nix fumbled with another ball near the first base line that could've been another out. All that led to more unnecessary pitches in those innings for Jose and I think he needs to be excused for this one start.
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 11:31 PM) Carrasco has saved us three games in a row now, I believe. The man is key part of our success. Agreed. Carrasco definitely deserves praise. I'm glad we still have him on our team.
  11. I took a few days to think about what I would like the Sox to do if I was Kenny Williams for 2010: *Let Thome walk. *Let Pods walk. *Resign Jermaine Dye to be the DH who can also occasionally fill-in at RF. *Sign Bobby Abreu to a 2-year deal. He bats left-handed and would replace Thome/Pods essentially one player that can replace lost qualities of both (Thome's patience at the plate, and Pods' speed). Once Abreu's 2-year deal is up, then Jordan Danks and maybe even Mitchell ought to both be ready for 2012 at the latest and we might have an outfield of Danks-Rios-Mitchell or Mitchell-Danks-Rios or even Danks-Mitchell-Rios, lol, with Quentin as DH. *If Viciedo is ready, have him start on the major league team in 2010 and have him rotate between 1B, 3B, and DH. If Viciedo is not ready, then just resign Kotsay. *Try out Abreu as the pead-off man, if he fails, then try Getz. Positions: C: Pierzynski 1B: Konerko (1B/DH) 2B: Getz SS: Alexei (SS/2B) 3B: Beckham (3B/occasional SS?) RF: Abreu (RF/LF) CF: Rios (CF/RF) LF: Quentin (LF/DH) DH: Dye (RF/DH) Bench: Castro (resign) © Nix (2B/SS/3B) Viciedo (1B/3B/DH) or Kotsay (1B) 4th outfielder (cheap option, or maybe Pods??? someone who can sub in CF) Lineup: 1. Abreu L 2. Beckham R 3. Dye R 4. Konerko R 5. Rios R 6. Pierzynski L 7. Quentin R 8. Getz L 9. Alexei R (wow, I never thought I would plug in both Quentin and Alexei in 7th and 9th. I guess Q can end up in the 3-hole if he finds his stroke again and everyone moves one position down) Pitching Rotation: 1. Buehrle 2. Peavy 3. Danks 4. Floyd 5. ??? (not sure if Hudson would be ready right away, either Hudson or someone from AAA like Torres, Marquez, or some cheap free agent. Would love to get Davis, though, but he would probably cost too much.) Bullpen: Jenks Thornton Linebrink Pena Carrasco Nunez Plus some lefty for the 2nd lefty reliever spot. Cheap free agent???
  12. I feel some people will never be happy, lol. Whenever we get players with good defense, we complain about their offense, then whenever said players are gone, we complain about the need for more defense. Case in point: Juan Uribe. Juan Uribe is probably the type of player you can expect when it comes to top defense. Guys like Joe Crede who has top-notch defense AND a capable bat are probably more rare than the Uribe types.
  13. Does anyone else think Pods let too many balls drop for singles? I think Rios ought to be able to catch a lot of those balls when he plays center.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) Sunk cost, it appears. (J/K)
  15. Rios' first at-bat with the Sox. hell yea, it's finally sunk in.
  16. That's Miguel Batista??? I could've sworn I thought for a second that Dotel ended up on Seattle after being claimed on waivers somehow.
  17. Seriously!!!!!! What's with the White Sox's inability to hit rookie pitchers!?!?!?!!?!? This is getting old!
  18. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 02:04 AM) Hmm, I don't like it. I get why he's using that (15 backwards), but that's too high for a position player. He needs to be a number in the teens or twenties. Pitchers are the only ones who should be using a number that a LB would where. I don't see what's the big deal with a position player being a high number. Guys like Torii Hunter and Travis Hafner both use big numbers (both 48), and they use it because they like the number. If I was a baseball player and I played a position on the field, I would coincidentally use 48 as well (my initials DH = 4th and 8th letters of alphabet) or 84 if 48 isn't available. Even guys like Rowand used 33 (I think) and Swisher used 30, makes no sense to force position players to play low numbers just because if they like a higher number better.
  19. Just read all 26 pages of this thread. Just wow.... I'm speechless, this is pretty awesome we finally got a legit centerfielder, one who even possess 5-tools with the ability to steal bases. I really like how someone in this thread pointed out that Rios would match up well with Granderson and Sizemore. I do hope to see Dye back next year and that Rios' contract won't take away payroll flexibility in 2 or 3 years from now, but looking at the roster with the addition of Peavy and Rios.... man... this is pretty freaking sick! And Dewayne Wise... I was always a fan of you, even supported Wise over Anderson, but with Rios coming to town, your time might be up. Thanks for everything, Wise.
  20. I kind of think it's Ozzie's way of bluffing the opposing pitchers into NOT hitting our batters. I actually think Ozzie's smart in having the guts to say stuff like that.
  21. Great job on going 4-0! I would also like to say that I'm sorry for not being able to make it. I was planning on comming if I worked a 5am shift, but the only shift that was available for me was a 12-9pm shift. After spending about $600 for airfare and hotel for a trip to NYC back in June, I couldn't pass the shift up because I needed the money. ...Also, I have a feeling some people would've gotten mad at me for trying to bunt.
  22. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 01:47 AM) It would, but I wouldn't want him having the bat and run on his first start back from an injury caused by running the bases. Me either, but I wonder how his ankle would respond to covering 1st base in rundowns in normal AL games. Contreras tore his achilles doing that.
