  1. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) Pitted against the current Pods, I'd rather have a leadoff hitter like Wise who, yes, is gonna get on base less often - but when he does it's going to have some punch to it, as he'll either be standing on 2b because of a double, or taking it with a steal. Or he's circling all bases at once. Even though he's going to be making contact perhaps less often than Pods, I'd like it to be going somewhere good when contact is made. That is unless Pods the slap hitter is going to steal bases again at his old pace. ^^^^^^ Exactly, you took the words right out of my mouth.
  2. awww, I'm actually disappointed it was only a joke. Earlier today I was actually thinking: "I wouldn't mind Sheffield on the Sox."
  3. C'mon people, lets share our rosters so we can see what cool team combinations other people came up with. This can also be a good thread we can use to brag (or whine) about our teams success (or failure) throughout the season.

  8. Hey everyone, how about have a thread where we list our current team rosters? And as the season progresses, and we make roster changes/acquistions, how about we list that as well as the current win-loss records (or roto scores) as well? This can be a fun thread where we can keep track of other posters' teams and see how their teams are progressing throughout the season.
  9. C'mon everyone, post some draft results and lets make this a fun thread.
  10. Team 4: Team name: Chicago 48ers League type: 20-team 8x8 roto league with 23-man rosters. OF set to CF and 2 OF. Draft pick: #14 out of 20. 1. Mark Teixeira 2. Aramis Ramirez 3. Alexei Ramirez 4. Cory Hart 5. Johnny Damon 6. Mark DeRosa 7. Brian Fuentes 8. Aaron Harang 9. John Danks 10. Randy Johnson 11. Joel Hanrahan 12. Gil Meche 13. Paul Konerko 14. AJ Pierzynski 15. Jack Cust 16. Rickie Weeks 17. Ty Wigginton 18. Ken Griffey Jr. 19. Todd Wellemeyer 20. Scott Lewis 21. Chad Durbin 22. Greg Zaun 23. Marco Scutaro This is my first time playing a roto league, I ended up joining as a "why not?" decision once my friend told me it was going to be a 20-team league. Towards the end of the draft, I once again picked Griffey as a sleeper pick, and I also picked Zaun as my back-up catcher with the hopes that Weiters might have an extended stay in the minors. I also drafted Konerko as a potential sleeper for my back-up 1st base slot because I'm expecting a bounce-back year from him. Scott Lewis was someone I picked on a gamble that I'm hoping will pan out. Compared to a lot of other teams in the league, I think I drafted a team that can compete with the pack.
  11. Team 3: Team name: BleedingD League type: 12-team 5x5 head-to-head keeper league. 25-man rosters. OF set to OF. Draft pick: #9 out of 12. 1. Ryan Braun 2. Lance Berkman 3. Matt Kemp 4. Russell Martin 5. Dan Haren 6. Jermaine Dye 7. Michael Young 8. Ervin Santana 9. Carlos Delgado 10. Matt Cain 11. Francisco Cordero 12. Mark DeRosa 13. Matt Garza 14. Randy Johnson 15. Adrian Beltre 16. Chris Young (Arizona) 17. Troy Percival 18. George Sherrill 19. Josh Fields 20. Orlando Cabrera 21. Grant Balfour 22. Jeremy Guthrie 23. Juan Cruz 24. Placido Polanco 25. AJ Pierzynski This is the 1st year of a keeper league and I wanted to take the Kenny Williams route of trying to put myself in a position to win now while also having a solid young core for the future. I'm planning on keeping Braun, Berkman, Kemp, Martin, Haren, Santana, Cain, Garza, Young, and Fields as my 10 keepers, depending on how they do this season or if I make any other acquistions. I'm pretty excited about this league.
  12. Team 2: Team name: Kansas City Crows League Type: 20-team 5x5 head-to-head league. 25-man rosters, with OF set to RF/CF/LF. 500 total players drafted. Draft pick: #6 out of 20. 1. Ryan Braun 2. Kevin Youkilis 3. Russell Martin 4. JJ Hardy 5. Bobby Abrue 6. Torii Hunter 7. Carlos Zambrano 8. Mike Gonzalez 9. John Danks 10. Ted Lilly 11. Orlando Hudson 12. Oliver Perez 13. Mark Buehrle 14. Josh Fields 15. David DeJesus 16. Mike Jacobs 17. Kendry Morales 18. Mike Lowell 19. Yuniesky Betancourt 20. Asdrubal Cabrera 21. Dana Eveland 22. Edwin Jackson 23. Manny Delcarmen 24. Scott Linebrink 25. Miguel Olivo *After all undrafted players cleared waivers, I made these following transactions: -dropped Miguel Olivo, picked up John Baker -dropped Asdrubal Cabrera, picked up Emilio Bonifacio. -dropped Yuniesky Betancourt, picked up Erick Aybar. The start of this draft was almost a disaster. The day before, I installed a new antivirus program and when draft time came I couldn't get through the firewall until after the 3rd round. Luckily for me, I pre-ranked players and had a ton of players on my exclude list. However, I was planning on reaching and drafting Manny Ramirez, Youkilis, and Uggla as my first 3 players. I ended up with Braun, Youkilis, and Martin instead, and ended up drafting the rest of the batters I decided to target pre-draft: Hardy, Abrue, Hunter, before I started picking pitchers. It is just a coincidence that I ended up with a very Chicago-heavy pitching staff, since a couple of pitchers I was targetting were picked before I was able to get to them, so I became a "best on board" situation. I drafted Josh Fields as my big sleeper-type pick, as well as Kendry Morales, because I'm predicting big years from those two. I also ended up picking Bonifacio as a free agent to back up 2nd base and I'm also expecting a big year from in in Florida. Bonifacio's been a fantasy prospect of mines since he was with the Nationals, and I have a pretty good track record on fantasy prospects (such as discovering Russell Martin in the Catcher pile in 2006). Some 12-team fantasy baseball players might wonder why I have 14 batters on my 20-team league teams. Well, in 20-team leagues, the free agent pool is so shallow that if one of your regular everyday batters are on the DL, you're just flat out of luck with MLB bench/utility-types being the majority of players to choose from. Drafting 17 pitchers in a deep league like this is not a good strategy, so I just draft enough pitchers to be able to compete while focusing on drafting solid offenses.
  13. Hey everyone, I thought this would be a fun thread where we can post our draft results and our reasoning behind some picks. Since most drafts are already done, we can use this thread to compare draft theories and it'll be interestig to compare notes on differing drafting styles. I'll start off: Here's team 1: Team name: Basin City Sinners League Type: 20-team 5x5 head-to-head with 25-man rosters. 500 total players drafted. RF/CF/LF instead of OF. Draft pick: #9 pick out of 20. 1. Ryan Howard 2. Brandon Phillips 3. Curtis Granderson 4. Jermaine Dye 5. Jhonny Peralta 6. Carlos Pena 7. Matt Capps 8. Justin Verlander 9. Zack Greinke 10. Johnny Cueto 11. Brad Ziegler 12. Hiroki Kuroda 13. Ian Snell 14. Casey Blake 15. Ty Wigginton 16. Kelly Shoppach 17. Chris Getz 18. Ken Griffey Jr. 19. Jeff Clement 20. Marcus Thames 21. Joe Blanton 22. Doug Brocail 23. John Grabow 24. Doug Davis 25. Nick Punto Analysis: I always target hitting in the first 6 rounds of drafts, especially in deep 20-team leagues so that I can dominate teams that overdraft pitchers and have thin offenses with my heavy-power offensive barrage. I was looking to draft someone that can hit 35+ home runs for my 1st round draft pick, since homers are at a premium in deep leagues, and was more than happy to draft Howard. I also drafted Dye for his offensive consistency and I also drafted Pena as a "why not?/best on board" pick and have him slotted in at Util. The trio of Howard/Dye/Pena along ought to be able to carry the team and I also drafted Phillips and Granderson as 5-tool types that can also net me decent steals. I also always target 2nd-tier pitching since I rather not draft someone like Santana or Linecum, since picking any pitcher in the first 6 rounds would really weaken my offense. Chris Getz is my prospective pick, and Ken Griffey is my low-ranked sleeper pick. Nick Punto was my last pick and I needed someone to back up SS, and the only other options were guys like Bruntlett. After the draft, I waited till all post-draft players cleared waivers so I can keep my waiver # and made some transactions: Dropped Jeff Clement, picked up Rod Barajas. Dropped Marcus Thames and picked up Juan Rivera.
  14. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) Here's the review I promised: that was a very entertaining read :-D
  15. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) worth noting that he got lit up by the angels, who are the spring version of the '31 yankees. they've been lighting up everyone. I kinda feel that when it comes to pitchers, that spring training is not a good measure of how they'll perform in the season. For all we know, Colon was probably not putting in much effort since it was only a spring training game and he was just working on some pitches and "putting some work in".
  16. I think too many people are putting the White Sox defense under the microscope way too much. Chill out. I'm more than willing to cheer for Wise as the lead-off hitter, and I think he's the type of hitter we need. People need to stop expecting the Sox to get some Gold Glove caliber guy in Center Field. People may argue that Brian Anderson has a Gold Glove caliber glove, but I rather sacrifice defense for the offensive tools of Wise. Also, I think our lineup is more than capable of compensating for our defense. C'mon. We got God, Dye, Thome, Alexei, and we should have a bounce-back year from Konerko, a big year from Fields, and another speedster in Getz. That's 7 guys right there, throw in the consistent production from AJ and the extra speed element from Wise, then I think we have the makings of a fun team to watch. Be optimistic, everyone, and stop being a bunch of bellyaching wet blankets.
  17. I think the Sox will surprise people and finish 1st in a division full of teams with differring weaknesses, except the Sox will be able to overcome their own weaknesses. Other predictions: *Ozzie will periodically give Contreras and Colon rest by having Richard/Marquez/Broadway/whoever make spot starts throughout the season. *Kansas City will not finish 5th place and will shock a lot of people. Approximate predictions on randon Sox players assuming they got a full season of at-bats or starts: *Pierzynski: 60 runs, 12 homers, 55 rbi's, 1 stolen base, .274 avg. *Alexei: 89 runs, 26 homers, 86 rbi's, 21 stolen bases, .287 avg. *Konerko: 82 runs, 29 homers, 91 rbi's, 1 stolen base, .258 avg. *Dye: 92 runs, 30 homers, 98 rbi's, 4 stolen bases, .293 avg. *Fields: 82 runs, 31 homers, 93 rbi's, 11 stolen bases, .259 avg. *Getz: 80 runs, 10 homers, 69 rbi's, 20 stolen bases, .280 avg. *Buehrle: 13 wins, 135 k's, 4.20 era, 1.33 whip. *Danks: 15 wins, 169 k's, 3.42 era, 1.25 whip. *Linebrink: 2 wins, 2 saves, 51 k's, 3.90 era, 1.10 whip. *Brian Anderson will fizzle and people will give up on him except those who has the biggest mancrushes on him.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 12:00 PM) Many times people post things that dont get responded to. Its for a variety of different reasons. The reason I didnt respond to your post is that I tried to look up information on Farraday and the picture you were referencing, but I couldnt find it online. Its an interesting theory, its just I dont think many people really remember whether the picture appeared to older than it should have been. Thank you very much for your post, I appreciate it. A post like that is good enough, because it makes it less frustrating than checking this thread everyday to see if anyone responded to my posts only to find out that there's no replies and that I might just being ignored and disregarded. I only asked cause you guys seem much more knowledgeable than the "casual" Lost fans I know personally. And that picture, I believe it was just a few episodes ago, either the beginning of season 5 or end of season 4.
  19. sheesh, people seem very cliquey on this thread. I asked for everyone's thoughts and feedbacks on the the whole Daniel Farraday thing and no one responds, yet when someone else makes a post on something else there's immediately resposes to their posts. I'm through with this thread, **** everyone.
  20. QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) Well, having your socks high gives you a pretty good indication for where the knees are. I don't see how it could possibly hurt, and if anything, have a positive impact with a more consistent zone for low strikes. Having your socks high is only cool if your name is "El Duque" Orlando Hernandez.
  21. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) Hey, if anyone can tell me I'm wrong, please tell me. Is it possible that Farraday left the island so he can figure out a way to get back to the future? The reason I ask this is because, remember when Desmond went to the university and came across Farraday's abandoned lab? Remember how Desmond found that old picture of Farraday? To me, it looked like a picture of present-day Farraday from the past!!! I think he might've gone back to the university to fine-tune his time-travel calculations so that he can take everyone back to the future, but who knows what happened to him. If I had to guess, I'd guess this is the timeline of Farraday: Farraday recruited by Widmore to go to the Island with the Zodiac, Farraday get flashed to the past with Sawyer, etc, in 1974 or sometime before 1977 Farraday leaves the Island for the university, then in 2007 Desmond finds the picture of Farraday from the past in the abandoned lab. Basically, I guess the point I'm trying to get at is that I don't think the picture of Farraday is 3 years old (left from 2004 and found by Desmond in 2007), I think it's much more older than that because it looked very aged, I'd have to say it was left in the late 1970's and discovered by Desmond in 2007. Can anyone verify/debunk this? Please? can anyone share their thoughts about this post?
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) Too many Rivers, Forests, Parks and Lakes in Chicago suburbs. yea, and I usually only stick with Tinley Park, Orland Park, Evergreen Park, and Oak Forest.
  23. QUOTE (HawkDJ @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) We saw Farraday in the first scene of this season working on building the Dharma station (the swan I think?). I'm assuming he worked for Dharma for a while and then either went crazy or is dead. Hey, if anyone can tell me I'm wrong, please tell me. Is it possible that Farraday left the island so he can figure out a way to get back to the future? The reason I ask this is because, remember when Desmond went to the university and came across Farraday's abandoned lab? Remember how Desmond found that old picture of Farraday? 24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 12:41 AM) Not even close to accurate, maybe you are thinking about River Forest or Oak Park? yea, that might be it.
  25. QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 08:56 AM) I'd also not allow players to wear uniforms that are 5 sizes to big (Manny) or have pants that cover up their shoes. Lol, then you wouldn't want me on your team. What's the big deal about pants covering up shoes???
