  1. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 08:21 AM) Chris Young would be eaten alive BA-style on this website if he had those numbers while playing CF for the Sox last year. We would be in the same position right now, looking for a CF while considering all of the alternatives Last year Chris Young scored 85 runs, had 22 homers, had 85 rbi's, and 14 stolen bases, that's not something Anderson can do. Sure Young had a .248 average, but he actually produces and, as another person mentioned, Young would be pretty good in the 7, 8, or 9 spots in the lineup, and I wouldn't even mind if he batted leadoff.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) My dog holding a bat in her mouth probably has a better chance of making contact than either. I can't help but imagine a golden retriever with a bat in it's mouth standing in the batter's box.
  3. If Owens and Lillibridge were the last 2 batters left on the bench, then definitely Owens. I would probably tell him to lean in on the plate a little bit though, to increase his chances of getting on base by being hit by a pitch.
  4. awesome read, thanks for posting it.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 06:55 PM) Really? Chris Young was hurt and undervalued when the DBacks traded for him? Hurt, no. Undervalued, yes, woefully undervalued.
  6. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) Yeah, that kind of "giving up on a player" got Carlos Quentin shipped to Chicago a year ago The Carlos Quentin situation is no way comparable to the failed Brian Anderson experiment. At the time the Diamondbacks traded away Quentin to the White Sox, they had a crowded outfield. Kenny was savvy enough to snatch one of their surplus outfield pieces, and it just happened to be the one the Sox organization projected to have the best potential: Quentin. If anything, I compare the way the Diamondbacks gave up Quentin to how we traded Chris Young to the Diamondbacks. As for Brian Anderson, he's more comparable to Felix Pie, and it's sad how no one realizes it. Brian Anderson would probably benefit from a change of scenery by being traded to another team. Comparing Anderson to Quentin is apples and oranges.
  7. The Sox should make Lillibridge their new Batboy. He looks young enough to be one.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) Your post makes zero sense. Why would we platoon 2 lefties in CF? BA is also just as fast as Wise and infinitely better defensively in CF. BA rakes LHP, Edmonds rakes RHP. Its not really that difficult of a concept. If we had Edmonds, then I would hope Edmonds would be an everyday Centerfielder, and that Wise can be subbed in at LF/CF/RF whenever he's needed. Not that hard of a concept because Anderson shouldn't be anywhere near the everyday line-up, he should be in AAA. Without Edmonds, then I'd rather have Wise as the everyday CF'er with Anderson only being used as a late-inning defensive replacement. After 2006, the Sox should never give Anderson another shot again.
  9. I think Jim Edmonds is a DL stint waiting to happen. However, if in the small chance that the Sox sign Edmonds, then I still think Anderson should be in AAA and that the 4th outfielder should be Wise because we need more lefties and speed.
  10. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) The question the defenders need to ask themselves is, considering the either non-existant or very minimal offensive gain of Owens and/or Wise over Anderson, is the speed they bring more important than Anderson's defense? The answer is no. No freakin' way. Hell no. Not when you consider the 350-400+ chances they'll get every year in CF, plus amount of times the opposition has a runner threatening to take 3B or go home on a short- to mid-range flyball in CF. I mean if we're talking like great offensive production - the likes of which Dewayne Wise and Jerry Owens will never see in their careers - then yes, maybe you can consider some weaker defense. But since that is not the case, don't let this Ozzie speedy lead-off man and fundamentals at the plate bulls*** fool you. That's why it's best to have Wise lead off and use BA as a late-inning defensive replacement. If the Sox decides to go with a platoon, then they can have Anderson bat 9th, (then we'd have a problem with leadoff) and we can use Wise as a late-inning pinch-hitter/pinch-runner. People are grossly undervaluing the speed Wise brings to the lineup. We have too many slow station-to-station runners that we really need some quicker guys on the bases that can potentially steal bases. With the way this team is made up, we might have no choice but to use Wise as our leadoff hitter, because who else is going to do it? It has been said that Ozzie doesn't want to stress Getz out in the leadoff role, so who else is it going to be? Alexei? He's better in the middle of the order around #6 for his rbi potential. CF: Wise 2B: Getz LF: Quentin RF: Dye DH: Thome 1B: Konerko SS: Alexei C: AJ 3B: Fields I like that lineup. But there's not really any place for Anderson on there, Anderson can't hit lead-off, so if Anderson was in the lineup and batting 9th, then who will hit 1st? Now without Wise at lead-off (Wise is way better than Owens), what else can we do? We don't have much flexibility, and we won't have much flexibility as long as we have guys like Thome on the team. The speed element helped us in the past with the likes of Timo and Ozuna, and the Sox is a better team having that speed element in the 25-man roster and in 2009 it comes in the form of Wise.
  11. Brian Anderson cannot hit major league pitching as an everyday hitter in the majors.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) You don't need to lug around a laptop to get instant news. I know you're talking about cell phones. Yea, I have a t-mobile sidekick 3 and I can use that for news if I wanted to, but nothing beats having a good old-fashioned newspaper in front of you as you're eating your lunch or dinner. I use my phone for a multitude of things, from using soxtalk, adjusting my fantasy baseball rosters, google, wikipedia, porno, mapquest, facebook, and other online messageboards, but it's still not the same as physically having a copy of Chicago Sun-Times in your hands. In fact, I prefer finding my news from a newspaper instead of online sources. And... as I'm typing this, I know it's WAAAAY too much information, and I'm sorry about that, but... I'm typing this on my phone on the toilet, and right after I hit the "Add Reply" button, I'm gonna read from today's Chicago Sun-Times. Yep.
  13. This pisses me off greatly. ugh. How can this be happening.
  14. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 11, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) It's not our job to keep a business moving along with the times, it's the job of the business itself to recognize that print media is dying and find a way to move into the future. We don't still use horses/carriages because cars were invented -- I'm sure the carriage makers back in the day were quite disappointed, too...but such is life. I won't miss these papers, I haven't read a newspaper in years. By the time they're printed/distributed, the news is already old. I've been reading newspapers since I was 8 years old. I used to always read the newpapers my dad brought home from work, and I still read a newspaper everyday at 23 years old. I like reading a fresh copy of the Chicago Sun-Times on my lunch breaks at work. It's something that I think cannot change with the times, because reading a paper on your lunch break is as timeless as you can get. Why should anyone lug around a laptop computer on their lunch breaks for the news? I'd rather have an actual newspaper in front of me.
  15. I can't really reply if it gotta be PG-13.
  16. I'd solve our centerfield AND leadoff problems by getting Curtis Granderson. And even though the original poster said "any player without anything in return", I would give Detroit Brian Anderson, anyway.
  17. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) Do you work for McDonalds or something? I choose my favorite place to eat due to taste, not by who comes up with creative ideas and/or who has the most revenue. Oh, I also saw some mention about Coke II in this thread. Coke II, FTW. I completely agree with you. All those statistics does is say that McDonald's sells more garbage than Burger King. There's also more McDonald's franchises around, so their financial figures are more likely to be more inflated compared to Burger King's.
  18. Here's how I like some of the burger chains: 1. Wendy's 2. Burger King 3. White Castle 4. McDonald's McDonald's taste as plain as plain can get, the only thing I like at McDonalds are their mcChicken sandwich and their Double Quarter Pounder. However, McDonald's loses points for their lousy sode fountain options, all they got is coke and sprite, which are garbge. Where's my pepsi or Dr. Pepper??? When it comes t "sliders", White Castle can never be duplicated. I love their jalapeno bugers and their double cheeseburgers. Plus their chicken rings with honey mustard is delicious. As for Burger Kings, they get extra points for serving Dr. Pepper, and I love their Original Chicken sandwich. I probably won't ever try their imitation of sliders, though, and why would I when I can get their Original Chicken Sandwich? And with Wendy's, they also get extra points for serving Dr. Pepper and all of their burgers are better than anyone else's.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) You know who else's bat is a joke? Dewayne Wise and Jerry Owens. At least Brian can play elite defense unlike the other 2. Well I think both Anderson and Owens should go to AAA. I think we'd be better off looking into having Kroeger as our everyday CF and Wise as our 4th outfielder. I just hate Anderson as much as other people hate Owens, if not more. I'd still rather have Wise in the 25-man roster over Anderson, he brings the speed and base-stealing ability this team needs, which Owens can't provide. Plus it seems to me that Anderson wouldn't be getting as much love by White Sox fans he's getting if he wasn't white. When it comes to having a "defensive replacement" on the team, I'd rather have Juan Uribe, and that's saying a lot.
  20. How come the shop at mlb.com isn't selling any merchandise for the Cuban team? I would've liked to have gotten a jersey or a shirt or something. The American jersey looks ugly as hell with that striped S.
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 05:47 PM) And why is that? Because he's the only one of the 3 players competing for the CF job with at least 1 major league quality tool? Or is because you just don't like him and keep repeating yourself without giving any good reasoning? Because I don't want to see a repeat of 2006 with Anderson getting another shot at being on the everyday lineup in 2009. His bat's a joke, and his defense alone is not enough for me to like the idea of him being on the lineup everyday, even if it's batting 9th.
  22. I think, no matter who ends up playing at 2B, that Brian Anderson should be sent to AAA. I don't want Anderson anywhere near the team.
  23. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) thats what Im asking you well played.
  24. When the original Sweeney/DLS/Gio trade for Swisher occurred, I thought we robbed Oakland blind. I was never really impressed with Sweeney, I thought he was more of an overrated AAAA player, DLS was really a prospect as best, and later on in the 2008 season we saw how much Gio struggled with pitching at the major league level, he got rocked by the Sox. Then when the Sox traded Swisher to the Yankees, I thought we pretty much got a good batch of players that were a fair return for Swisher and better than the original Sweeney/DLS/Gio package we gave up for Swisher. I think Wilson Betemit is more of a sure thing to put up decent numbers as a utility man at the major league level as opposed to Ryan Sweeney. Betemit will be a solid reserve for years to come and he was once a top prospect as well. Verdict: Betemit>Sweeney When it comes to Gio and Marquez, I think Gio's stuff is too electric. When I saw Gio in action last year, he looked like he couldn't find the strike zone. As for Marquez, I think he's currently surpassing Gio in terms of development, if he didn't already. When the trade where Swisher was sent to the Yankees, I was much more welcoming of the idea of taking a chance on Marquez than I was at the idea of ever getting Gio back. Verdict: Marquez>Gio And now when it comes to DLS and Nunez, while these two guys are probably the biggest question marks in both trades, I think DLS is too much of an injury risk from everything I've read about him. DLS also appeared to me that he might have great stuff but still undeveloped. Now with Nunez, I was originally unsure of him, which sort of made me consider DLS and Nunez to be equal in comparing each other, but after seeing him in that spring training game against the Cubs, I REALLY like his delivery, his aggressiveness in attacking the strike zone, and his mound presence. Sure it may be a small sample size in gathering an opinion from, but... Verdict: Nunez=DLS ...with a slight edge currently going to Nunez.
