  1. Home-Run!!! Wilson Betemit! You can put it on the boaaaaaaard! A power-hitting reserve off the bench, exactly what we need on this team. Thank god Betemit's bat won't be pathetic like Mackowiak's or Cintron's.
  2. JER-RY!!! JER-RY!!! JER-RY!!! Jerry just won a spot on the major league club with that hit. I hope Anderson has fun riding buses in triple-A, at least he can have more time to go around looking for hunnies. ....god, I'm so sick of hearing Lou's voice!!! I wish he'd shut the f*ck up! Wtfffffffffffff. I'm turning my tv's volume off if Lou's still flapping his gums when the commercial break is over, his voice is so irritating!
  3. Is it just me, or does Samardzija's (sp?) haircut remind anyone of Floyd's hairstyle before he lost his bet with AJ?
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 09:22 PM) At first I thought you were talking about selling Texas Instruments stock or TI the rapper and then realized it was Treasure Island for $775 million...guess I'm just not that into the gambling/gaming world. Ti does have a nice poker room. They had a small but nice one the last time I was in Vegas. I played a Bounty tournament there.
  5. So Taguchi.... what's with the Cubs and former Cardinals? 3 strike-ous for Danks, yay! Danks is sexy!
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 09:06 PM) 2 points Baseball has historically resisted having itself become associated with gambling in the way the NFL has, where everyone's calling their bookie for every game. Given the things like Pete Rose, the 1919 White Sox, I think they might have an instinct against it. 2nd...Vegas is one of those "Ground zero for the housing bust" areas that way, way, way overbuilt on housing and is now going to be experiencing stagnant growth for probably decades, even with the casinos. Hell, the casinos way overbuilt too, they're having to low-ball everyone just to keep people coming in. To finish the CityCenter project, MGM Mirage had to sell off TI to private investors just to get funds. Their stocks are mostly in the toilet. But I remember reading somewhere that Vegas was considered as a potential location for either an expansion team or for the relocation of the Expos. I also remember seeing a Mexican city on the list as well. It doesn't seem like MLB is too opposed to the idea of venturing into Vegas. As for the expected stagnant population growth of Vegas, I've always thought a team based in Vegas would usually have more away team fans than home fans, anyway. I think a team in Vegas won't experience much hometown loyalty from their fans, but they'll be a big entertainment draw from tourists. Gambling, seeing the Hoover Dam, riding roller coasters, riding dune buggies, seeing Cirque Du Solei (sp?), and... seeing a baseball game. That's all entertainment draws right there. Plus, any hardcore baseball fan visiting Vegas would love to see their visiting team play the Vegas team. Vegas is also warm enough during the entire baseball season to keep a steady flow of visitors, as well.
  7. Does anyone know if Danks is working on a certain pitch or something? Could be why he's getting hit.
  8. I really think there's a lot of potential of there was an expansion team based in Vegas. They can just build it on the outskirts of Vegas, but provide shuttle service to and from the strip. Even possibly sell tickets from designated areas of casinos or something.
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 07:32 PM) If I had to guess: Owens, CF Wise, LF Konerko, 1B Dye, RF Pierzynski, C Betemit, SS Fields, 3B Getz, 2B Danks, P Should be a considerably boring game. I'll take whatever Sox game I can get, I need my Sox fix. I also hope we beat those Cubs and bring agony to the Cubs fans in attendance
  10. How did they screw Alexei? What's the default Sox rotation?
  11. QUOTE (SnB @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 07:20 PM) Hawaii or Mexico? We've been looking at maui, but have gotten alot of recommendations to go to mexico, especially for the all-inclusives. aaaand go I'd go to Hawaii. It's too scary in Mexico right now with the big drug war going on, all the killings, and all the kidnappings.
  12. I just wanna say to the original poster: Thanks for the list. I've been checking it every day to see which games might be on tv, it's very helpful. Thanks.
  13. QUOTE (tommy @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) DISCLAIMER: I know it's only been a week and things will change but lets play manager for a minute. So far this spring I'm impressed by Nix and Lillibridge, shot at making this team, Beckham and Vieciedo probably won't but equally impressive. Lineups as I see them right now: Starters: Owens CF Nix 2B Quentin LF Dye RF Thome DH Paulie 1B AJP C Alexei SS Fields 3B Bench: Betemit - 1B/3B Utility man Lillibridge - 2B/SS PR/Utility man Miller/Stewart/Armstrong - didn't see enough of them to make a choice for a backup catcher Anderson - OF OR: Lillibridge 2B AJP C Quentin LF Dye RF Thome DH Paulie 1B Alexei SS Fields 3B Anderson CF Bench: Betemit - 1B/3B Utility Man Nix - 2B Owens - OF Miller/Stewart/Armstrong - see above Either way I hope Getz can turn it around and battle it out with Nix for the place on the 25man roster. I really want Lillibridge in the majors, I don't want Owens near the team but probably not gonna happen. Beckham and Viciedo to the minors, learn 2B and 1B respectively and have a shot at next years starting lineup. Let me see what you guys have in mind so far. I'll play Here's what I kinda see... and what I would do if I was Ozzie... CF: Owens (someone's gotta be lead-off) 2B: Getz LF: Quentin RF: Dye DH: Thome 1B: Konerko SS: Alexei C: AJ 3B: Fields Bench: Wilson Betemit: 3B, SS, 2B, 1B Dewayne Wise: LF, CF, RF Jayson Nix: 2B Backup Catcher: leaning towards Corky Miller or Stewart. I'd send Brian Anderson and Brent Lillibridge to Triple-A. I think Lillibridge needs to work on improving that .200 average. And I'd send Anderson back down because he had his chance in 2006 and all he's really good for is as a late-inning defensive replacement, I'd rather have more late-inning pinch-hit home runs by Wise. If the Sox can't score late in the game, then I'd rather see them switch out Owens for Wise instead of Owens for Anderson. Plus, I don't think Anderson and Owens should be on the same team together, that's too much of a bad thing, and since Owens can lead-off, despite being mediocre, Anderson should go to AAA. I'd also keep a close eye on Viciedo, and if he RAKES in the minors, then he's gonna be on the major league club no matter what. Starters: 1. MB 2. Floyd 3. Danks 4. Colon 5. Contreras Bullpen: Closer: Bobby Jenks Set-up 1 (9th): Linebrink Set-up 2 (8th): Thornton Set-up 3 (7th): Dotel Middle-Relief: Carrasco Middle-Relief: ???????????? Long-Relief/Spot-Starter: Richard I'm still not sure who I'd put in that last bullpen spot. I would rather see Aaron Poreda and Jeff Marquez start the year in AAA because I think Poreda should work on his secondary pitches and that Marquez should get regular playing time as a starter so he'd be ready to jump in the rotation in 2010. If I had to scramble to put someone in the bullpen in that last spot, then I would probably take a risk on either Link or Jimenez.
  14. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) that was an interesting blurb about Viciedo: Have to keep in mind that he's still very young. Did he leave to get a Slurpee, or something?
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) No. We just do 12 team leagues. If you want to commish a 20 team league and invite people, have at it. Ok, thank you, I wasn't sure if it would've been frowned upon if I tried to invite Soxtalkers without them contacting me first. I still have 5 open spots in my 20-team Strike Zone Baseball League, I think I'll try and recruit from here. About 12 of the 15 people currently signed up for my 20-team league are veterans in my 4-year old league, so the competition's tough and for real.
  16. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) There aren't many interesting players left for tonight's game. C: Pierzynski/Miller/Flowers 1B: Konerko/Broussard/Myrow 2B: Getz/Nix/Torres SS: Betemit/Santos 3B: Fields/Castillo LF: Wise/Kroeger CF: Owens RF: Dye/Restovich Getz, Nix, Fields, Flowers and Kroeger. Whoohoo! They're not gonna have players from minor league camp travel to Las Vegas so I doubt there will be any fun surprises like Jordan Danks. A Tyler Flowers sighting would be nice. I'm sure Owens will play all nine. Hmmmm, well I haven't seen much White Sox baseball since the playoffs last season, so I'll take whatever I can get. HEY!!! :-O They just showed Viciedo's home run on the news! AWESOME!!! Anyway... one thing I'm interested about tonight's game is watching Josh Fields' defense at 3rd base and seeing how much his batting (eyes) and baserunning (knee) might be improved. Also, I just got sent home from work because I was too sick, so it's gonna be nice to at least catch a game, and a little "Lost".
  17. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) never have been a fan of broadway, and he's most likely quickly falling out with the FO player evaluators as well players like him actually need to perform in spring training, and he was clearly rattled in a game that doesnt matter Me too, I never cared for Broadway, either. One of my best friends is a big Broadway fanboi and he's in denial over how much he sucks, no matter how hard I try to get it through his head that Broadway is terrible. Sure it's nice how Broadway got that win against Kansas City, but anyone can win against KC. I'd rather have Clayton Richard. Ever since his game at Yankee Stadium, and how he pitched almost flawlessly in relief in game 1 against Tampa in the ALDS last year, I've been a believer.
  18. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) jesus christ lance, just stamp your own ticket back to the minors why don't you? unreal :lolhitting That seriously made me laugh out loud, I almost blew Dr. Pepper through my nose, lol.
  19. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) Very unlikely. Why not? 20-team leagues are way better and more competitive. Plus, you don't have all the good players sitting around the Free Agent wire, which makes it almost too easy in 12-team leagues. In 20-team leagues you gotta do more research and be more savvy in terms of picking up free agents from the shallow scrap heap free agent wire. Play a 20-team league, and you'll never want to play 12-team leagues again.
  20. Attention: as of today, The GSBL is already filled to the max with 20 managers. But the SZBL currently has 15 managers and has 5 openings still available. If anyone's interested in joining the SZBL, then let me know asap. I'd rather have good managers join my league instead of having to recruit unknowns. If anyone think they have what it takes to compete in my 20-team league that's more competitive than the 12-team Soxtalk leagues, then bring it.
  21. I said a couple days ago that I would be willing to join any 20-team leagues and I never heard a response. It seems like Soxtalk leagues are very exclusionary. :-/
  22. Are any of the Soxtalk Leagues 20-team leagues? I only like to play in 20-team leagues. 12-team leagues are lame.
  23. I don't see why we can't just move Alexei back to 2nd base when Beckham is ready to come up to the majors. It's not like Alexei is gonna forget how to play 2nd, and he was pretty good there last year.
