QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) Only the pre-swing stuff. He's either wiggling the bat when he's getting read to swing or having it rest on his shoulder. That's the only alteration I've seen him make. I wonder what Walker is trying to do with him. Maybe Dunn will refuse Walker's advice, and find himself in the same situation as Swisher eventually did... -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) Rios has been hitting it hard by and large the past week or so. Heck, even more than that. His slugging percentage, ops, and average have been on the rise the past couple of weeks. He's also coming off a 3 hit game. I realize its sexy to hate on Rios, but unlike Dunn, he's actually coming around and also plays some good defense. Rios has adjusted his swing, and it's paying off. Does anyone know if Dunn has tried anything different? -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:02 PM) Ozzie has to drop Dunn down to 7th or 8th. He's killing rallies. Maybe this will be the game that finally gets this concept through Ozzie's thick head. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) We've all been pining for Viciedo over Pierre. I think it's just about time to sit Adam for a week or 10 days and let Dayan DH. Because Juan ain't goin' nowhere. I think Ozzie MIGHT sit Dunn. I fear what is going to happen when we return to AL play and need a DH to compete. I'm not taking any success in IL play too seriously. Whether we're at home (in which case the visiting NL team rarely has a good DH) or away, IL play masks lack of production from our DH position. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) Ozzie just needs to stop playing him against lefties. Hell, any confience he had after Friday night probably was negatively impacted after he struggled against the lefty yesterday. Agree - except Dunn also needs to bat further down in the lineup against righties, until he gets his swing back. -

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) Dunn f***ing sucks. I hope we can get rid of him sooner rather than later. Send him back to the NL. If he keeps this up, Kenny will put him on the waiver wire, hoping that some in-the-running NL team that needs a LH bat for the stretch run and beyond will pick up his contract, just like Kenny did with Rios from Toronto. But 3+ years left makes it a long shot... -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) I personally think your being to cute there with the bases loaded and 1 out. A lot of things can go wrong on a squeeze play, so Im just not a fan right there. I don't blame Ozzie for trying, especially after yesterday's game and all the trouble we had getting runners on third home with less than two outs. Squeeze is not going to work 100% of the time...if it works 50% of the time it's probably a good idea... -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) Who was at fault there? Ozzie being too cute or Lilli for missing it or both? It was a pretty unbuntable pitch - very low and outside. Blame bad luck, or Ozzie (but only a little) for having the squeeze on when the pitcher didn't need to throw a strike. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 05:43 PM) Wow, he is missing that ball by a lot. Dunn's main problems are pitch/strikezone recognition and timing of the pitchers he's facing. With his huge swing-for-the-fences swing (the only one he has, unlike Konerko), he has to start very early. He's swinging at too many bad pitches, and missing (sometimes by a lot) because his swing is so long and he can't adjust once he starts it - he might as well be batting blindfolded once he makes the decision to swing. The HRs he has are all due to the ball magically running into the bat where he's swinging it, not vice versa. The contrast in hitting approach between Konerko, a true professional, and Dunn is stunning. And so are the results. -

QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 05:30 PM) Just checked in on this game...Dunn 0-3, 3Ks, we need to start a campaign to get this guy sent down...I mean bring Karkovice out of retirement or Dan Pasqua would be better alternatives... His at bats have looked terrible...plenty of swings and misses, at least one by 6 inches. I'm no sabermatrician, but why Ozzie has him in the lineup when he came in 1 for 49 versus lefties is beyond me. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) I am forced to follow the game by mlb gameday, but it looks like the Jakemeister is really bringing it today! Peavy has indeed been great - lots of movement on the ball, and he's mixing up his pitches very well. Problem today is offense... -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) Completely agree. The broadcasters for games sit where they do for a reason. The atmosphere and being close to the field can be pretty cool, especially if you just go to a couple games per year. But when it comes to season tickets, my dream tickets would be right behind home plate in the front row of the upper deck. You have the best perspective for watching the game and seeing everything. Just my 2 cents. The first few rows of the upper deck at The Cell are great, and a good bargain! My seats are in Sec 527, on the first base side of home plate, so I have a great view of home, the pitcher's mound, and first base, which is where most of the action is. I can see all the goings on in the Sox dugout but not the visitors, so this summer I saw Zambrano storm into the dugout but missed his blow-up with DLee. I like being on the first base side of home better than directly behind home, because you're closer to the mound and first base. It's hard to call balls and strikes from this angle, but I get a better view of RH-batter checked swings than the umps do. My seats are directly above the beginning of the second section of club level seats. I'm basically 25 feet higher up than the best club level seats, for one third the price. Club level seats extend all the way into far right field - my seats are a lot closer to the action than many club level seats. Yes, there are many upper deck seats at The Cell that are far from the action. But there are also some excellent seats, especially considering the price. And yes, partial season ticket holders get into the lower concourse by showing their printed tickets. If this benefit didn't exist, I would probably not get upper deck (or any) season tickets, since the lower deck is a great place bring guests to sightsee and eat before the game starts. Then when the festivities start, I just take the escalator up to my "cat-bird's seat", as Hawk would say...

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 27, 2010 -> 10:19 PM) Yes, lets trade the best SS in the AL to overpay the worst defensive one. Another brilliant idea from Rogers. Yes, let's get rid of our young Silver Slugging (and Gold Gloving, in everyone's eyes except the actual voters) shortstop to bring in an aging, fading, overpaid veteran because Alexei is going to get a nice contract in 2012. And to do that we have to top the Yankees' $15M/year offer and three year contract. How much money do the Sox have left to spend this offseason, Phil?
-
I've said it before: Phil Rogers is a complete idiot, and this article proves it. Jim Hendry should never hold another GM job again, after spending $140M on a fifth place NL Central team that is handicapped for years by incredibly stupid long term contracts. I can't believe the Tribune continues to print his hallucinations.

Whither The Ranger (and White Sox Weekly)?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) Rangers facebook page said noon to one today. Thanks, ss2k5. I've avoided the Facebook craze, although my wife spends hours/day on it. Guess I'll have to ask her to "friend" the Ranger to find out when WSW airs. -
Does anyone know if Chris Rongey is still doing his White Sox Weekly show during the offseason, as in the past? If so, how do we find out when it airs? CBS Radio redid the website for 670 The Score, and they appear to have removed the schedule of shows. They also don't make WSW available as a podcast (but "Who Ya Crappin'" is). Gee, they won't tell us when WSW is on, and they don't make it possible to listen to it as a podcast. Are these clowns really the flagship station of the White Sox for another five years?

QUOTE (logic101 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) Lou Piniella has to be shaking his head...he went 3 and out twice and became public enemy #1....The Twins came out with fear in their eyes from game one - AGAIN - and all we hear about is match ups... Life is different for managers and players in a small, less intense media market like Minneapolis. They face less scrutiny and criticism, and are more apt to keep their jobs. Gardy's now on an 0-12 run in the playoffs (3 more losses and he will tie the all-time record, which took the Phillies something like 67 years to achieve back in the day), but he'll be back next year - you can count on it. In Chicago, the 24-hour sports radio stations would be continually inciting a lynch mob until they ran him out of town. The small market effect helps managers and players keep their jobs and leads to a more stable organization, but it also works to the detriment of the team when the playoffs come around and the spotlight shines brightest. The small market teams are not as comfortable when the spotlight and the pressure is on them. Just look at Mauer in this series - he was absolutely terrible - he did nothing at the plate, and gave up more bases with his poor defense than his bat earned. He's the classic small market superstar. Does great versus Cleveland in May, but nothing against the Yankees in October.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 10:41 PM) I just wish the Sox didn't fold to KC, Clev, Balt. The converse of the Twins being so much better than us head-to-head and within the division is that we were much better than the Twins versus MLB teams outside the Al Central. We have to beat the teams we should beat within the division, and the Twins.

QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) And there's the weak pop-up!!! And there's the second weak pop-up!!! This is just like watching the 2010 Sox vs. Twins, except with different uniforms on the players.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) They're looking very beatable to the Yankees, not the White Sox. They have another possible ace coming up quickly in former 1st rounder Kyle Gibson from Univ. of Missouri. Possibly they'll lose Hudson and Thome...but they could bring back both without any problems. Casilla could end up as the starting 2B again or Punto. If Morneau comes back (BIG IF), then the need for Thome is less pressing if they hold onto Cuddyer/Kubel/Young again. My guess is that Cuddyer might be the odd man out. Then again, paying Mauer $23 million is going to start to affect their overall payroll structure as well. Plus you're going to have to deal with a little bit of apathy from the fanbase after the "Braves reputation" starts to affect their psyche. Not so fun when you're something like 3-20 since 2003 and have lost 12 post-season games in a row. Was just listening to their announcing team and they think that Sabathia coming far inside to Thome with no retaliation is one of the keys to this series. How many times have the White Sox been hit or busted inside or been run over by the likes of Hunter and Young without any attempt at shoving them back in the face? Same story, same song. Just different teams. They're even arguing the stadium music and crowd get the fans more charged up in NY than Minnesota. The Twins' fans kind of gave up and had that "oh no, here we go again" feeling, which it's hard to blame them for really. And the Twins, unlike against the White Sox...are off the top steps of the dugout and hanging their heads in defeat. 1. Liriano 2. Pavano 3. Gibson 4. Blackburn 5. Duensing 6. Slowey 7. Perkins Good post. I hope this latest sweep by the Yankees weighs on the Twins psyche all winter and into next year.

QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) In that case, I know what's going to happen here with the bases loaded - ground ball double play, weak pop-up, or strikeout. We weren't only bad with RISP against the Twins, we were even worse when the bases were loaded. And there's the weak pop-up!!!
