QUOTE (greg775 @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) why would I want to do that? I agreed with leaving Mark in the game. And you were wrong. It was a bad choice, don't defend it. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) Overbay's never, ever, ever hit Buehrle, he's now 0-17 against him. Leaving him in for Overbay is the right move. Leaving him in against Wells, who is RH and who hits .500 against Buehle, was the mistake. Oh, agreed. I'm just giving Ozzie's reason for leaving him in for the rest of the inning regardless, of Overbay or not. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) The thing is, if you trade for Gonzalez, you're going to need a ton of young guys to fill the holes for cheap. However, you'd lose those guys in a trade for Gonzalez. Let's say we trade Danksy, Flowers, Hudson, and Viciedo. Next year Paulie come off the books, you bring back A.J and hope like hell that Phegley or M-Gone figures it out in two years. You've got A.J. A-Gone Beckham Teahen Ramirez Q Rios Pierre DH You bring in one of these guys to D.H or move Pierre to Dh and play one of them in the field Carl Crawford (lot of money, looks like a no go), Johnny Damon, Manny Ramirez, Andruw Jones, Jayson Werth (lot of money, no go too), Jim Thome. -

QUOTE (TitoMB @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:39 PM) What's the significance of you calling him A-Gone? Is this supposed to imply something? Nah, it's me giving him a nickname that implies his last name is Gonzalez and he hits bombs. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) But you're forgetting 1 thing...you want to put Gonzalez into the lineup...you have to bench one of those struggling ones. You bench Pierre. And DFA Nix. No big loss either way. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) 2. Konerko's contract is coming off, but we don't have an obvious 1b replacement next year. Remember this is with a hypothetical A-Gone scenario. So, we would have a 1b. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) Our entire young core is either playing terrible right now or is going to get very expensive in the next 2 years (D1). We both agree that they won't continue to suck, Balta. You put good players around struggling young ones, you might get better results then with our current makeup. -

I just don’t see how having one of the best players in all of baseball hurts a team. Especially, when our entire core is young and we’re playing in a mediocre division. This would be different if we were the Blue Jays or the Orioles, but we're in a position to compete year in and year out. You get a guy like A-Gone, you pay him, and you get what you pay for. Worst comes to worst you're paying a lot of money for three guys (Peavy, Rios, and A-Gone) and taking gambles on a few other spots on the team. With those three guys, you can afford to take some risks. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) Mark Buehrle is pitching on a Friday night. He's one of the most popular players in team history. There's no one at the ballpark. The team is terrible, is starting Kotsay and Vizquel, and doesn't have Adrian Gonzalez. This isn't a good example. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:29 PM) Frankly, no. I think you're 100% wrong. Well, that's a shame. It's perfectly logical to think that you get Adrian Gonzalez in a White Sox uniform that people are going to start showing up to games. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) There's no way they can make that extension right now based on the way attendance is going. You don't think that just getting him would have any impact on the amount of people coming to Sox games? We're a large mark team with an owner with deep pockets. You give Jerry a reason to believe that the team will improve, he'll spend the cash. -
