  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) Hell no, Santos has more power than Pierre. The best part is that he really does. Santos could probably hit as many homers as half the guys on the team, his contact rate would be miserable though.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 4, 2010 -> 09:25 PM) Oh boy, not this again.... NICK SWISHER RULES!!!! HUDSON IS THE 5th STARTER NOT GARCIA!!!! s***, old habits. Let's move on people.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) Getz is a solid 2nd baseman. He has a lot of range, but struggles completing plays. I was not impressed with his ability to turn the DP last year, but he also had to deal with the Cuban Headcase. Getz was a below-average 2b last year. I don't know if the numbers have shifted, and if he's improved, but he was very poor last year. Especially compared to Jayson Nix.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) Are there examples of guys Teahen's age who have improved significantly defensively? I remember as a little kid hearing spring after spring how Jorge Orta improved as a 2B, then the season would start and it was the same old Jorge. He was a good hitter at least. Jeter, last year
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2010 -> 09:11 PM) Wow, Austin Jackson has a BABIP over .500 The Tigers like to pick up guys who flourish despite their peripherals spelling certain doom. Look, at the numbers Rick Porcello put up last year, his struggles are of little suprise.
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 4, 2010 -> 09:06 PM) Usual sloppy D? You mean his 18.3 UZR150 this season, which makes him the 2nd best 2B in the AL right now (behind Beckham)?? While Teahen has an AMAZING -37.6 UZR/15 right now, which puts him as the 2nd worst in the majors? Because UZR is a flawless measuring stick. Just look at Jason Bay! He's had a small sample size and he was poor last year.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2010 -> 09:00 PM) The KC brass likes his D. They shouldn't it's not very good. THe Royals also tend to like terrible things.
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 4, 2010 -> 08:16 PM) God I love Teahen! So glad we traded Getz for him. Just wanted to point out that Getz is hitting .190 while playing his usual sloppy D without a trace of power.
  9. Looking back, it's hard to believe the kind of special talent Mark Prior was turning into back then. He was flawed from the start, but my god, if that shoulder had held on for another few years he could have done some magnificent things.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 4, 2010 -> 06:41 PM) IMO, it's an organizational philosophy because of MB. Oh, yeah. I agree wholeheartedly. I just think it's going to stick around even after he's gone.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 4, 2010 -> 06:27 PM) One thing worth noting...we might not have Jake Peavy in our rotation without Buehrle. We were able to put together a package for Peavy centered around a LH starter who was having success in the big leagues by emulating Buehrle's pitching fast/throwing strikes routine. It's now more of an organizational philosophy then it is a Buehrle thing, same with the cutter, remember when Torres came up to start, and he was throwing at the same pace? It's trickled down throughout the system.
  12. It's an absolute tragedy what Cub's fan did to Steve Bartman. This guy, a life-long Cubs fan, did the exact same thing that every one of us would have done in his sitiuation, and because of a cruel (yet hilarious) twist of fate gets his life turned to s*** by a reaction that was done out of reflex, not conviction. You see a ball coming your way, you try to catch it. Simple as that.
  13. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 4, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) I'm with you on Nix's defense. I even think he could be a pretty serviceable daily player, possibly, but he's a riskier play than Teahen is. And it's not really relevant in this conversation because we CANNOT field a team whose only LH bats are Pierre and Pierzynski. I know. I don't think Nix is at the point where he can be an everyday starter in the A.L. My only argument is that is versatile, that he can hit LHP's, and he really should be one of the first options off the bench, and get a lot of the play that Vizquel has been getting. If we're not going to play to his strengths (or play him at all, for that matter) we should just let him ride the waiver wire and see if anyone bites.
  14. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 4, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) He looked REAAAAAAAALLY bad there in spring training. Not relevant necessarily, but I think that's where the perception comes from. I know i'm his biggest supporter on this board, but i think people are a bit to eager to slag off on the guy for things that aren't his fault. He's been perfectly fine at 3b, even despite never playing their prior to last year.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2010 -> 12:04 PM) He shows things at second base. At third he was a disaster. How the hell was Nix a disaster at 3b? He graded and looked just fine at 3b, he was a disaster at SS.
  16. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ May 4, 2010 -> 02:41 AM) CJ Retherford is the starting third basemen in Charlotte. If anything I can see him (and others) for Gordon. But, I'd rather take my chances with CJ. Granted both are risks with one being a prospect and one being a bust. But still. There is a MASSIVE gap in talent and potential between C.J. Retherford and Alex Gordon. Retherford is a great pure hitter, but there's a reason why Gordon was the #2 overall pick of a talent laden draft. Trading a undrafted free agent, even if he's worked his way through the minors in an impressive fashion, should not be an issue.
  17. Usually an ultimatum contains a threat and an "or else." I don't see that here.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ May 3, 2010 -> 10:43 PM) Jake was great. I hope he has turned the corner and won't look back. Mark Kotsay is worthless as a starting player. Maybe Ozzie will realize this some day. And if he does have to start because of an injury, it won't be any higher than 7 in the lineup. D-Wheezy had 153 at-bats for us last year. So, Kotsay's due for about a 110 more and then we'll be ready to cut the chord.
  19. Rios celebrating the birth of a child in style.
  20. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ May 3, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) Linebrink is one of the few contracts that Kenny's given out that came back to bite him in the ass. God willing be won't be saying this about Buehrle by the end of the year.
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 3, 2010 -> 10:32 PM) sigh.....warm jenks.... Bad idea. He's pretty much a lock for a hit given up and that'll score a run.
  22. Where's JPHAT? He should be celebrating the Rios coming out party.
