  1. QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) lol, you have no clue on what youre talking about. Youre all over the place. First you say he never hit well and then say never a great hitter. There's a big middle ground between not that well and great. He was a good hitter. He had 9 years where he batted .275 or higher. Guys who cant hit dont do that. I corrected myself to say that while he wasn't a great hitter, he certainly was a good one. I admitted i was wrong, and you felt the need to ignore that. So what's the problem?
  2. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 06:13 PM) I was taking your earlier statement literally when you said this current offense is what you expected. At the current pace, the Sox would score about 520 runs. I read the site enough to know you've run the projections during the offseason, so I was just being a bit of an ass about it! Being an ass is my gig, Disco 72. You lay off. We're good. We're going to be a pretty bad offensive team, but not this bad.
  3. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) Really? You expected an offense that averages 3.2 runs a game (~520 total runs scored on the season)? I know the projections weren't good, but nobody projected it to be worse than the 2009 Pirates by 100 runs. I ran the projections again just to check the numbers, and they actually came out worse this time. The 2010 White Sox according to the average projection between CHONE, Bill James, ZIPS and Marcel are projected to score 720 runs this year. Four worse then last. Also we scored 724 last year, and The Pirates scored 636. Now sure where you got those numbers.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) Totally false. But, yeah, he sucks now. I'll correct myself. He could never hit, that well. I think that's fair. He's just always been an elite defender, never a great hitter. But yeah, it was wrong for me to speak in absolutes.
  5. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) Vizquel can't hit any more Anymore? He could never hit. Vizquel should be nothing more for this team then a mentor for Beckham, Alexei and Nix and an occasional defensive replacement for the late innings. There's no reason he should have started yesterday.
  6. QUOTE (striker @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) Once this offense starts to kick in this team is going to take off. And it eventually will kick in. Will it? We're no better on paper then last year's offense, and we're about the same or worse in all logical projection.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) KW is Ozzie's boss. If he just does what Ozzie says, JR could save some money and eliminate the middle man. If the roster is the problem, that's on KW. I put the lack of a DH on Ozzie, and I think that’ one of our bigger problems. KW constructed a pretty good bench; we just shouldn’t let Ozzie be using them as starters.
  8. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) So you believe that Pierre will hit .150, Beckham will hit .222, Kotsay will hit .100, Rios & Pierzynski .211, Alexei .158, and Teahen .091 for the entire season? Otherwise it is unreasonable to think this will continue. No, i think things will improve. Just not to the point where we're anything above a below-average offense.
  9. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) You have your opinion I have mine, I want nothing more than this team to win 10 in a row but what has been constructed by KW and OG is not working! I'm not happy either. In fact, I’m f***ing pissed at Ozzie both for his in-game decision making, his lineups, and his attitude off the field. I will, however, stick up for Kenny because I believe firmly that he's one of the better GM's in the league. He has his faults, some of them being displayed currently, but he doesn’t deserve all the blame.
  10. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) Its not KWs job to take orders from Ozzie, it doesn't matter if he got everyone Ozzie wanted its still gonna be his fault as well because his job is to get the players weather they are the players he wants or the players the manager told him he wants.. It's KW's job to work with Ozzie to form the team. That means compromise. KW gave Ozzie way to much leeway this offseason. That's his biggest mistake.
  11. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) And how is that going so far 1-4! I never said things were going great. I said it's too soon to b**** about a guy that brought in everything thing that's good about the current lineup.
  12. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) This is true. However, there's the expectations of the offense (based on past performance) which is much better than that absolute crap we've seen this first week. It is very reasonable to expect this offense to be better. Not great, but better. This is actually exactly what a lot of us expected the offense to be. Hell, i projected us to be the same or worse as last years offense multiple times. Sp, please don't say this is a suprise or that's unreasonable to think that this will continue.
  13. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) KW wants all the credit and NONE of the blame his job performance has been underwhelming for 4 years running now! KW got us Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Quentin, Rios, Ramirez, A.J., and Thornton among others. I don't think we're in the position to be b****ing about his job performance. Especially, in a season where he gave Ozzie most of the say over how the offseason went.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) It's not top of the league offensive talent, but it should be: quite a bit better than last year, and maybe middle of the league, on paper, if people stay reasonably healthy. If it's below average... We don't have a DH. Most teams in this league do. From the start, we've given ourselves a limitation that most teams don't have.
  15. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) We can go on a 20 game winning streak, it won't change the fact that this team is not ready to play baseball. Look, i'm pretty pissed off at the makeup and direction of this team too, but I think a 20 game winning streak might mean a lot actually. Mostly that, yeah, we are ready to play baseball.
  16. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 05:32 AM) I doubt Ozzie goes anywhere, but if they do axe him. I'd like Willie Randolf to replace him. I want someone like Davey Johnson. A guy in the Weaver-mold who is predisposed to study the game, instead of working from his gut.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:24 AM) .316 team OBP, 22nd in the MLB. EDIT: That was through 3 games. Including tonight, .323 team OBP, last in the AL. The numbers are very telling, and i'd agree that OBP is going to be a huge problem for this team. MY point, however, still stands when we do get on-base, we're not going about things the right way.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:19 AM) The Sox are second in MLB in BB with 24. The approach hasn't been that bad. The problem isn't getting on-base, it's what we do when we get on-base. We bunt, we don't hit, we run ourselves out of innings. Ozzieball is going to be the death of us.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 12:40 AM) The alternative was playing Nix or Teahen vs a lefty in Liriano? Not Ozzie's fault. Nix hits the crap out of lefty's. Yeah, it's Ozzies fault.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 12:16 AM) Picking between Jones and Kotsay is like picking between Teahen and Omar. Does it matter? Yes, because Teahen's still a better option Omar and Jones is still a better option then Kotsay. That's a crap analogy.
  21. If Ozzie goes, Cora has to go too. He's an extension of the manager. The issue is purging the coaching staff and keeping Coop.
  22. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:58 PM) Also, I want Vizquel, Kotsay, and Jones all to remain healthy so we know definitively where we stand with them come next season. The WORST that can happen is if any of the three are injured and we bring that back against next season, based upon the hope of what they'd do in '10. Neither of those three will be on the team next season.
