  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) I think Danks ends up in AAA. Agreed, i also think Mitchell starting at AA has a lot more to do with how much this organization values the coaching of Ever Magallanes then anything else.
  2. "Looking for tickets to go to wrestlemania, I need help with that, they r way too expensive about 17 hours ago via web " He should probably ask A.J. He has decent wrestling connections. Someone tweet him this!
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) http://twitter.com/OzzieGuillen/status/9679365201 I think he means that the full squad reports today with the first workout. UR means Our? Yep, i believe today is the deadline for all players to report to camp.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 06:47 PM) Basically, he's like Joe Crede offensively without the Gold Glove defense. More potential for doubles, but still a downgrade from what Crede (the 775-825 OPS version) did for sure. Wait, Chris Getz? Getz will be lucky to hit half-a-dozen homers at the major league level. He'll never produce at a Crede-like level.
  5. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) "I don't think anybody out there has enough money to buy myself to go someplace else,'' Guillen added. "I don't think I'm going to walk away from here for any reason - for better money or better team or better town.'' i love ozzie guillen, im glad he wants to stay and i hope he manages this team until hes old like bobby cox with the braves, hes awesome With the rope KW is giving him, we'll see if he survives the year. I like Ozzie too, more as a person, then a baseball man. IF he's going to continue making obvious flaws in his lineups, i'm not sure i'll want him when he's approach 80 and senility.
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 09:17 PM) So is he just going to tweet in spanish from not on? This has become a whole lot less compelling over the past 12 hours or so. I hear the whole board is going to start typing in spanish. Maybe we should take the hint. Puedo Ir el bano?
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) I never took a full year of spanish, but I think your first translation is slightly off. I got "Waiting for joey oney and andrew Jones to begin the grill." Maybe everyone was invited and Cora, Oney and Andruw are late?
  8. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 06:07 PM) not a good showing for Nix defensively today... Suck it, UZR. He failed the eye test.
  9. Not going to happen, but i'd do something like this Cf Rios 2b Beckham DH Q 1b Konerko 3b Teahen RF Jones C AJ SS Ramirez LF Pierre
  10. I enjoy SouthSideSox, but they need more content and analysis. The articles produced by SSS pale in comparison to what Athletics Nation, LonestarBall, and Lookout Landing provide for their team on a consistent basis. They're often quality, but i don't think they come out consistently enough to inspire any sort of deep discussion. Their comments sections nearly always devolve into unmoderated ramblings, thus making whatever discussion an article could have provided null and the members make no use out of the excellent fanshots service the site provides. And no, we were referring to a certain other message board that rhymes with WSI.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) If you want the "group think" positivism, you might prefer other Sox message boards, IMO. Trust me, that's worse than anything you see here. At least this site isn't NEARLY as filtered or controlling of its posters, as long as they stay fairly civil and back up their arguments with substance and not just personal attacks. It's crazy what's happening on the other big SOX board. There's a legion of blind optimists pouncing on any detractors. At least we have decent, reasoned debates here.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 07:44 PM) I noticed it in multiple posts in the past few weeks, thats why I asked. Maybe it was just the word of the day on your dictionary calender I really must have been doing it subconsciously and It’s odd because it has been cropping up in a lot of my posts.I think it’s because of my ECON class; I’ve just had a lot of that statistical jargon bouncing around in my head.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) I think the past 10 years the only White Sox pitcher who was considered to be a flamethrower I ever saw that actually threw as hard as advertised was Jenks, although Clayton Richard may qualify as he threw pretty hard but it really wasn't advertised all that much. I recall how excited we were for the vaunted Poreda fastball. He averaged, what? 93, at the big league level?
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) do you have a mandate that suggexts you need to put "empirical" in all of your posts now? I actually just reread my post and noticed that i really did say empirical twice in, like, two sentences. Should i be concerned?
  15. I think its impact as a defensive position is underrated.
  16. I just found a link from a couple years ago that i think is hilarious given the context of the times. Mark used to be in a platoon (to his dismay) where he didn't get to bat against left-handed pitchers. "Manager Ken Macha repeatedly has said that Kotsay is not in a platoon, and he said Monday night was a chance to take it easy on Kotsay's troublesome back, as well as to get Bobby Kielty's bat into the lineup. "Mark's played three days in a row," Macha said. "This is more opportunity to get him a rest." Kotsay feels as if he's in a platoon, though. "It is a platoon," he said. "If I'm not in the lineup against left-handers, it's a platoon situation, no ifs, ands or buts. (Macha) has made it clear I'm not playing against left-handed pitchers, especially tonight. He's putting a lineup out there he feels is the best to help us win, and I'm not in it." Kotsay has made only one start this month against a left-hander, with Kielty -- who is batting .327 against left-handers -- getting five starts in the past 20 games. Kielty doubled and singled in his first two at-bats against rookie lefty Cesar Jimenez. One of Kotsay's arguments is that he doesn't have a major difference in his lefty/righty splits. He's batting .275 against right-handers this year, .261 against lefties. His career numbers entering this season: .290 against left-handed pitchers, .284 against righties. "I've had this discussion with (Macha)," he said. "I went in about three weeks ago and asked, and I said, 'My back doesn't need a rest.' It makes it seem like I'm the odd man out, but I've never had a problem hitting left-handers. My numbers across the board are down, but so are a lot of guys' in here. Last year, I hit 60 points higher against lefties." http://articles.sfgate.com/2006-09-26/spor...nager-ken-macha I suspect his opinion changed once his back gave out again.
  17. I understand resting players, but by no means should this scenario end with Vizquel at designated hitter.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) "Role Models" has been on one of the HBO channels every day multiple times in the past few weeks and I have watched it every time. Paul Rudd is good in everything. Just saw, I Love you, Man, which added more comfirmation to that statement.
  19. Some more confirmation that Kotsay is getting the bulk of time as the DH, and Omar Vizquel will add his incredible defense versatility to the DH position. "For now, this means that Mark Kotsay will get the bulk of at-bats against right-handed pitchers. Guillen also didn't rule out Omar Vizquel batting leadoff as a DH against tough left-handed pitchers, meaning Juan Pierre would get a break." http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...ft-handers.html
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) Who? Spring Training Invitee. Switch-hitting power bat who couldn't cut it for the Rangers.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) Actually he has been, by Jack McDowell, of all people. I just don't buy it. He was an injury waiting to happen, and he was never a big guy.
  22. I hope a new Bears stadium looks like a boat eating a stadium this time, instead of a space ship.
