  1. Relax, guys. This move only puts the Tigers in a better position to compete with u- the Twins.
  2. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 06:18 PM) You really can't see this offense scoring 741 runs? I can. Not that I didn't want Damon, I really really did, but I don't think his absence puts us that far back. Certainly not worse than last year. Chone has this lineup putting up 700 runs this year. I'm thinking we'll be better then that, but not my much. Bill James has our offense being exactly the same as last year (724 runs). Statistically we're not looking good. Not looking much better on paper either.
  3. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) Sign Leslie Anderson and hope he's the 2010 version of Tadahito Iguchi? I'm in this camp as well.
  4. I'm looking forward till the pictures come out to get a glimpse of what kind of shape he's in.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) Astros extend GM Ed Wade through 2010. Wow, that's profound stupidity.
  6. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) Look, I really wanted/still want Damon to come, but if he doesn't, you know that KW is still going to look to improve/make a deal to help this team! It still doesn't forgive entering the season with an issue like the DH looming over the team. Their were far better potential stop-gaps on the open market then Andruw Jones and Mark Kotsay.

    i am drunk

Four Shots of Jack D's tonight. I hit my head though, hurts like a b****. Didn't hurt much at the time.
  8. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 02:15 AM) As far as I'm concerned, we never won a world series with him, so he never helped. Sure his home run won us game 163, but he didn't help us win in the postseason, did he? You do realize that by your definition 20 members of our 25 man and 35 members of our 40 are useless, right? 'Cause they haven't helped win us a World Series. This is an awful attempt at ignoring the solid production Thome gave us for a few years.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) Good for Kenny. Why let them control negotiations? Anyone else find it i interesting that KW threw out a timetable of 24 hours for Damon to change his mind?
  10. Here's some tweets. Pretty much what we've been hearing and speculating about. cst_sox KW did leave the door open and say if Johnny Damon changes his mind in the next 24 hours, "we would love to have him.’’ cst_sox According to Williams, the Sox waited long enough for Damon and asked for a bottom line. Bottom line was "unrealistic.’’ MDGonzales KW says that Damon and Boras showed a willingness to be creative but ‘’the total dollars and cents didn’t make sense to us.’’ MDGonzales KW: "the delicate part is what is a player’s value to team x vs. team y and in city x vs. city y. Some of it is real, some is manufactured.
  11. I like the youngers guys playing. Where else do you get Jayson Nix getting hit in the face at an international level?
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) There's no way you trade for AGon right now and not surrender Daniel Hudson in the process. Agreed, the Padres want him, and the White Sox don't wanna give him up. That's why this trade hasn't been made.
  13. According to Baseball Prospectus. If we trade Flowers, Viciedo and Danks. Our top ten looks like this: 1. Daniel Hudson, RHP 2. Jared Mitchell, OF 3. Brent Morel, 3B 4. Clevelan Santeliz, RHP 5. Trayce Thompson, OF 6.Santos Rodriguez, LHP 7. David Holmberg, LHP 8. C.J. Retherford, 2B 9. Jhonny Nunez, RHP: 10.Josh Phegley, C: 11. Nathan Jones. We have a decent draft pick this year, a nice collection of young guys at the big league level, and a good market over in Cuba. I'm not too worried about this organization's prospect future.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) No one thinks higher of him than I do. I just think it would be hard to give up ALL of your remaining prospects for him while agreeing to an 8 year or so extension without it having a huge impact on the shape of the organization. I still believe that we wouldn't beat out Boston for his services, but that's a different argument. I don't think it would be hard at all. This organization has never prioritized organizational depth over the big league team.
  15. QUOTE (striker @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 05:29 PM) Who catches if Flowers is part of the trade? You resign AJ. Or you explore the open market, and wait for Phegley or M-Gon in two to three years.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) Going into the season with literally no valuable prospects and no payroll flexibility is even dumber. I love AGon, but I just don't see him as a fit for this organization over the next 5 years due to his impending huge contract. You really don't see one of the best 1b's in all of baseball fitting into this organization?
  17. QUOTE (striker @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) I bet KW will say F it and get Agon. It's not that easy. He's made the effort, the Padres aren't biting. Yet.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 05:15 PM) For a dead pull hitter like Damon, new Yankee Stadium was a haven for him. Very true, it did play perfectly to his strengths.
  19. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) I like what Kenny did-this is no big loss if they dont get him-leaving Yankee stadium he wont hit 24 HR combined the rest of his career. With him, we are still not good enuf-so let him go The Cell is a better home-run hitting ballpark then Yankee Stadium. In fact, the Yankee Stadium home run park factor isn't even that remarkable.
  20. I actually have a good feeling about this. I don't know why. I guess if the 1st attempt at the Peavy trade has taught us anything, it's that these things come back around.
  21. I had forgotten that Dempster and Kevin Millar are best friends. They should be one of the more annoying pairings in Cubs history.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) We should probably wait before we start patting KW on the back for his strategy. If Damon ends up signing a 1 year deal for 6 million with the Tigers because the Sox pulled out, then KW's move will have backfired. I don't think it's a conspiracy, i think it's KW forcing Boras' hand.
  23. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) And now we see why KW was smart to pull his offer. Now the Tigers feel no pressure to meet these demands. When they say "No" Damon can either take their $7M offer or have Boras tell the Sox that if they put their $6M back on the table he'll sign immediately. This is probably the most effective bit of gamesmanship that KW could have pulled. It's really crafty.
  24. QUOTE (joeynach @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) Not going to happen with the Sox and Braves out of it. Yep, Boras lost a heck of a lot of leverage today.
  25. Back to b****ing about how terrible the DH sitiuation is, i guess. At least, KW made an honest attempt here.
