QUOTE (thedoctor @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) probably true, but it's not like we offer a significantly better chance at winning than detroit does. I disagree. We offer a far better chance at winning then Detroit does. Hell, even if they get Damon, we still do.

QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) So he's like every other player? The things i could do with 6 million bucks. Like that extra one is really going to take him the extra mile.
-
The rumors that Damon is more about the money then winning appears to be correct.
-
Hey! At least Branyan is---- Blalock, it is.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) Dammit I wanted to be first.... Damon offer gets pulled and you get pulled off the first post of page #100. Coincidence?
-
It's true. It's the headline on ESPNChicago. f***.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) F**K I JUST SHOT MYSELF IN THE FOOT!!!! lol You only just heard about Wang being signed by the Nats?
-
QUOTE (jphat007 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) Yay. somebody deleted thunderbolts post. Chet wins! Yeah.... somebody. Now, this must be what going mad feels like.

Who says you weren't first, Chet? B)

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) This is like Money Ball, except it's a TV show and our front office is nowhere as near as interesting as the A's front office... On a second thought, it really depends on what you mean by interesting. I always thought it would have been cool to get the other side of the infamous Beane-KW draft day phone call from Moneyball. Now, we kind of get the chance. I think there's enough charisma in this organization to carry this show.

I’d also like to see a crafts-based section with Ozzie called, “This is how we do it in Venezuela, f***ers.”
-
I'd love to see the camera just follow around TCQ all day and see how intense he is ALL THE TIME, or go out for a night on the town with Garcia and T-Paine.
-
Outstanding. Not that i'll be able to watch it, but still.
-
I hit a game winning inside-the-park 3-run bomb to LF to make the Little Leauge Florida Marlins champions over the Orioles.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) IMO, its not happening. I mentioned when I heard they first talked about him early in the offseason, and I heard about some action this week. All I hear now is silence, and that cant be good. Is this a guy thing based on radio silence, or are you hearing tangible concern from some of the powers that be?

As we so often do, WCSox we're gonna have to agree to disagree. I do like your idea of hitting Pierre 9th though, i'll drink to that.

Dye says "crowded outfield" prolonged his slump
ThunderBolt replied to winninguglyin83's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) Anybody seen what Bill James projects for Dye in 2010? .261, 31 hr's 85 RBI's, right? Pretty damn nice, but James does tend to overproject. -
QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) No, I think I'll ignore your elitist rhetoric, incorrect statements, and flawed statistical analysis instead. I'm going to apologize for my tone. At the time of the posting, i'd just gotten word of my grad on an Econ quiz, needless to say it wasn't great. I will not, however, ignore the fact that Pierre really hasn't been a good player for the last few years outside of a two month stint last year, i don't think you should ignore that either.
-
QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) Pierre hit .308, put up a .365 OBP, and stole 30 bases in 380 ABs last season. Thanks for playing. What do you say you reread my post, look at Pierre's numbers for more then the limited sample size of two months last year, and then be less snotty to me in your next response?
-
QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) Pierre is a .290-.300 hitter who is good for a .330-.350 OBP and steals 30+ bases a year at a 75-80% clip. You do realize that Pierre hasn't put up those types of numbers for more then a two month span in about 5 years, right?

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 06:31 PM) Sounds like a broken Wang to me. I suspect that Wang will be pretty mediocre, but maybe pop out for a good performance or two. It’s been hardened through years of experience and I suspect the Nat’s coaching staff to stroke some good starts and finishes out of it. When it's on, that Wang can go all 9 without having to be pulled from the game.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) Not only that, but there's no room for both of them. AGon would likely play 1B, which would move Paulie to DH. If you wanted to maintain a 12-man pitching staff, Jones and Kotsay would have to be DFA'd. Pierre would have to be benched (which is a waste) with Damon taking over in LF. And if Quentin got hurt (again), you wouldn't have a legit RF anymore. The only way that this would be doable would be to carry 11 pitchers on the roster and hope that Jones stayed healthy enough to play RF if something happened to Q. Juan Pierre was on the bench for the majority of last year. He can fill that role for us too.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) It appears to be done. http://twitter.com/InsideTheSox/status/9301693034 Damnit.

If we don't get Damon, I'd prefer to take a gamble and sign Leslie Anderson and give him some playing time in the OF, i'd think he'd be a touch higher on the risk/reward ratio then some of the other guys on the market..
-
Either way KW was going to talk on Sunday. Now, we just have the time table. I don't buy this as being a damning statement about Damon.
