  1. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) People are overreacting to this move. Hudson is a good player, but he's not an elite 2b anymore. I mean, this is the guy who got benched in the 2nd half last year for Ronnie Belliard. He's not Chase Utley. Please compare the White Sox and the Twins respective offseasons and tell me who has taken the more proactive approach to making their team better. We're not in the position as White Sox fans to write off moves that make the Twins better. We finished in 3rd place last year.
  2. As it stands, the Twins are the best team in the division. At least, on paper and through projections. Damon would help us close the gap, maybe even push us over the top.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) Besides missing out on a number one draft pick for a year, you mean. I’d much rather have had the opportunity to sign Bryce Harper then to have completely avoided the issue.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 06:18 PM) That doesn't stop them from trying to force a team into doing it. So, we don't. And we get a comp pick. Not seeing the downside.
  5. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) For some reason I do not think their pitching is all that great. It wasn't great last year either. They still won the division.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) Keep in mind we are talking about at least Stausburg money. Not at #13. I don't care how much hype the kid has gotten, if his star falls as far as out of the top ten he is not getting top 5 money. Boras has almost all of the leverage here, but even he realizes the position Harper has put himself in by rushing into the draft this year.
  7. I'd kill for Ranaudo to fall to us. As for Harper, he's not all hype. He generates tremendous power from his hands, and has a cannon of an arm. It's far to lofty to call him the "Chosen One," but he's remarkably gifted, and we'd be stupid to pass him up if he was still available.
  8. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 12:58 AM) That would be pointless though. Boras would just laugh in your face, send Harper back to JUCO and wait for someone to give him $7m+ and a Major Leaue deal next year. And then we get a comp pick. Harper has made every effort at getting to the major leagues as soon as possible. If he's honestly more interested in the money then we can say we gave it a try, and we'll try again next year. It's risk/reward and the reward of getting Harper far outweighs the risk of gambling on being rebuffed, and having another go at the same draft point the following year.
  9. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 12:43 AM) Do they, not should they. Completely different things. Should they draft him in that situation? Hell yes. Would they? Almost certainly not. The Sox haven't shown any propensity for drafting the tough signability guys or dealing with Boras. Harper is a a different story. You do not pass up on this kid, he has all the raw potential in the world. If he falls to 13 you tell Boras you'll pay him above slot and around top ten money, but nothing more.
  10. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 12:05 AM) If Harper slips, do the Sox draft him? You mean if the consensus #1 pick of the draft slips to #13 should we draft him. Um, yes?
  11. I'd love to get a high-upside pitcher pretty early on in the draft. Preferably, left-handed.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 09:34 AM) Is this renewed "we're gonna trade from Agon" talk coming from any news or just the burning desire to feel like our administration does care about not losing. THAT'S A BINGO!
  13. QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 09:56 AM) Hearing from who? Just the latest rumors from the writers and sites i frequent. Nothing concreate.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 07:48 AM) Their live shows with Nels have been great. Their albums with him have been incredibly boring but I wouldn't say it is his fault. I think it has more to do with the more "mellow" approach Tweedy takes to writing then any of the new additions to the band.
  15. I had no idea you guys were all rookies. I guess I can't read. We've had some good posters join the board this year. This is tough.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 03:58 AM) If that's "all" it took it would've been done weeks ago. If (big if) the Padres decide to make AGON available, they'll be some MAJOR competition between multiple teams to top what the other is offering. AGON almost certainly won't be dealt between now and opening day. The earliest I can see is mid-season. Hopefully will have multiple prospects either rake or dominate on the mound in order to legitimately strengthen our would be offer. I used to include Viciedo in all of my Gonzalez trade hypothetical’s, but lately all I’m hearing is the three names. And if that’s the case, and it really is a standing offer, I’m not sure what the holdup is,
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 08:48 AM) If Pierre can get on base at a decent clip that number will surely rise. So, what you're saying is that this clip is not going to rise.
  18. At this point, if all it would take is Hudson, Flowers, and Danks we might as well do it. We need the shot in the arm, and as much as i dig the idea of both Danks brothers starting for the team at the same time, i'm far more sentimental about a guy who could pop 50 from the left-side.
  19. Toughing being a Uconn fan too. After the Texas win nearly every other game is like a kick in the nuts.
  20. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 11:56 PM) Just so some of you don't sled into a tree on this one. O-Dog is a good player... but he is definitely on the decline. Despite winning another GG last year... several scouts think his range is very average now. Ronnie Belliard took his starting job at the end of the season last year in LA. The only question is if he makes the Twins better. He does, and that's what we have to worry about.
  21. Ah, i thought this was going to be mine, and then i saw BearSox was nominated. I thought my incessant Swisher/Nix/Getz natterings would have put me on top, but i can't compete with the master of incurring wrath.
  22. Has to go to DA. The best in the business. Love ya, DA.
  23. I'm at the point where i can seperate myself from the prospect loving side of me. Just get me A-Gone, and let's call it a day. We've got in-house options to replace Danks (Mitchell), and we're focusing on pitching in our next draft anyway. A.J's got a couple more years left in him, and we can always find another catcher elsewhere. A-Gone is just too good to pass up.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 07:13 PM) Wait a minute...the division races have already began? I have been passed out most of the last few weeks due to binge drinking. Shaping up. You know what i mean.
  25. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 07:08 PM) i thought pitching is the most important thing? no way are they far and away the best team. they have a lot of question marks with their rotation imo. pavano is avg at best. not a guarantee to stay healthy either, liriano is a big question mark, 4 and a half era for baker last yr, slowley had an era torwards 5, blackburn is their best pitcher and has won 11 games back to back years with an era of 4. our pitching is way better. their rotation may have potential but its far from being able to say that its very good. ill take a well above pitching staff and ave. linueup over a well above lineup with (at the moment) avg. pitching rotation Our pitching staff was better than the Twins last year too. How'd that work out? Now, it's better, and our offense is the same, if not worse. Hey, maybe we might even make it to second place this year!
