  1. Alex Rios is on this team, because he's a good baseball player. One bad year does not make a player bad. Especially, a guy with the tools and track record that Rios has.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 08:37 AM) How do you find that out? Do you ask them? Cameras. Nah, it's mostly an observation thing. If by coincidence i'm in the bathroom, and i see the handwashing process.... note to self: I am not a pervert.
  3. Wilco, Ben Folds, and The Decemberists all put out pretty great albums this year.
  4. I can't ever shake someones hands after finding out they don't wash them in the bathroom. I've heard people make excuses for themselves, but i don't care if your urine is sterile. Wash it the hell off.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 07:43 AM) I see a big problem with your 3B/SS/bench tandem. If (god forbid) Beckham goes down, you are screwed at 3rd, because Ramirez is not sliding over to 3rd to back up Beckham like you have it drawn up, And Nix is not backing him up either as he showed us last year. Nix actually looked pretty competent at 3b. He was a disaster at SS, but he can play multiple positions. He shouldn't, but he can.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) It is a term used in commodities trading all of the time. Damn, i thought i started a fad.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) So he likes portabella mushrooms? Suck, it KyYie. I checked this one before i posted it. fun⋅gi⋅ble. Adj-esp. of goods) being of such nature or kind as to be freely exchangeable or replaceable, in whole or in part, for another of like nature or kind.
  8. I had a thought in the Lowell bust of a trade thread. The Rangers are in need of a power threat who can play 1b and is right-handed. They're willing to give up a good catching prospect in Max Ramirez, and absorb a percentage of the salary. So, make it Konerko for Ramirez. This opens up the option of trading Flowers guilt free. Which opens up more options. Deal or no Deal?
  9. So... the Rangers need a right-hand power hitting 1b. They need the other team to cover salary and are willing to give up a good-hitting catcher for him. So... Konerko for Max Ramirez. Thereby, allowing us to trade Flowers... Anyone see where i'm going with this?
  10. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) The Sox got hosed and the Dodgers made out like bandits, clearing $8M of a bad deal off the books, which is more than enough to fill the 4th OF spot with a capable veteran and still have lots left over to address other needs, and in making this deal the Dodgers *also* picked up a couple potentially useful players in Link and especially Ely. Jon Link is a fungible asset. Ely is a promising kid with no stuff, but a good pitchers mentality. Neither of these players are that big of a deal to lose. We filled a need, and made the other team play a large percentage of a huge salary. Even if Pierre isn't the ideal option (and he really isn't) we won this trade.
  11. I'd just make a call offer, Viciedo, JorDanks, Flowers, and Hudson. If they say no it's clear that they want a lot more then we could ever offer them, but at least we tried. If they say yes we sign Mike Redmond, hope that Mitchell and Phegley will produce in two-three years, and go find a lefty-arm.
  12. God, the Cubs got raped here. It's completly their fault for being so public about the Bradley fiasco too.
  13. QUOTE (WCSox @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) Hudson's arm is also nowhere near conditioned to throw a full 190+ inning season. Nowhere near? Hudson threw 165.3 innings last year. It's not out of the question.
  14. His last name is an anagram for solid. That is all..
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) Reports are that Bradley is headed for Seattle for Carlos Silva Well, there goes that.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Even in the most cartoonish portrayals I have seen of Ozzie in here, that would be utterly pointless, since Vizquel's value is in his defense. That is so not going to happen. I have a similiar problem (but to a lesser extent) with the notion of Nix DH'ing. I doubt he makes the 25-man, but if does get the last spot on the bench, he has no reason to start at DH over anyone on the team.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) do think the Sox will bring in another arm or two as the off-season winds down, and people get desperate for jobs. I stumbled across Greg Miller’s name in the list of minor-league free agents. Miller was a 1st round pick for LAD, a couple years back, he's a left-handed pitcher who was on the fast track to the majors before sustaining a shoulder injury in spring back in 2004, and has since struggled in his recovery and his transition into a relief pitcher. Miller had the best curveball and slider for a couple of years running in Baseball America. Despite his struggles over the last couple of years, Miller has a career minor league k/9 of 9.6 .I’d like to the see Sox take a chance on guys like him come spring, because Randy Williams is anything but a sure thing. These are the types of risks we can afford to take.
  18. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 06:09 PM) I agree Upton has alot more potential and is younger. But Winn will cost you $2M less and no prospects. Upton has about 10 more years left in him. Winn has what? Maybe two?
  19. QUOTE (MEANS @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) rotoworld reporting the Yanks are interested in Johnson Sounds like they're closing in too.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) Interesting stuff, indeed! Paulie in the 2-hole would be great! TBolt, does this Pinto thing take into account footspeed? Or just their offensive numbers basically? I do like the sound of 5.157 runs a game though. One would think with this pitching staff, we should win a lot of games when we score 5 runs... It only weighs .OPA, and .SLG. I’m not sure if there’s any metric sophisticated enough to really factor in foot speed.
  21. Using the Bill James 2010 projections and Pinto's lineup analysis tool i have a lineup of Pierre, Beckham, Q, Konerko, Jones, Rios, AJ, Ramirez, and Teahen pegged for 5.057 Runs per game. The site seems to think our optimal lineup would be good for about 5.157 runs and would be Beckham, Konerko, Ramirez, Q, Rios, Teahen, Jones, A.J., Pierre. Regardless, we really do need a bigger bat in the middle of our lineup.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 11:05 PM) The way the Sox are constructed, he'd actually fit in the lineup right now. It's tempting. It would make things interesting, that's for sure. He's there for the taking, it's a risk, but it's incredibly logical. I'd bet that KW has the move in the back of his mind, but is looking elsewhere for now.
