  1. I think the Postal Service should look into pressing charges against Owl City. Honestly, i had no idea those weren't crappy Ben Gibbard songs until somebody told me.
  2. I think we're going to like Teahen. He's (from all i hear) a really down to earth guy, very charitable, who likes to set up roots in the community. He's kind of a non-spazzy Nick Swisher.
  3. I'm not a fan of interleague play, or what he's done with the All-Star game, and blackout rights. Can't say i'll really miss him.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) He's been a pretty good player for us, very flexible and although prone to the big HR, he's been overall very good. Anyone with that K-Rate, can't be written off. I'll miss the guy, he was one of the more reliable members of the pen.
  5. QUOTE (balfanman @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Just a matter of semantics I guess, but I would consider Upton a huge move. Oh, yeah I’d love to get Upton. But I’m prone to hyperbole, so I’d figure I’d downplay my enthusiasm.
  6. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 12:44 PM) •The Sox were second-to-last in manufactured runs (137), which should come as no surprise. Only the Royals were worse (130). I hate this stat. It strongly overplays the influence of the bunt, and the hit-andrun, i always find it interesting to look at the wasted outs stat too, and see how much they resemble each other.
  7. I really do expect us to make a move. Not a huge one (A-Gone), but a promising one (Upton).
  8. I love the Laumann-Bell approach to drafting, and hope that it continues to yield solid results for years to come.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 30, 2009 -> 02:45 AM) Ken Williams is beating Billy Beane at his own game. Moneyball is all about getting undervalued players and plugging them into the system. Moneyball. Exactly, KW is playing an excellent hand here. He's going after logical, cheap targets. He's looking for solid insurance in case his bigger plans don't work out.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) re you willing to part with Dan Hudson and Tyler Flowers for Upton? Not both, but either plus Jenksy. B.J. Upton is a special kind of talent.
  11. I'd say our best shot is at getting Upton. After that don't be suprised if we stop-gap every other position in the lineup. I think we will have a splash, not a tidal wave.
  12. D-Wheezey was signed by the Phillies. What? Don't everbody slow clap at once.
  13. God, I would have gone ballistic 5 years ago to hear we got Omar Visquel and Andruw Jones. I find this move odd, but I understand it. Hell, I think it can work. It’s a great fallback option if things don’t work out for us this offseason. I just hope like hell we have our eyes on a bigger prize.
  14. Hell, if we could pluck Hank Conger from the Angels in a Konerko trade, i'd make it Jenks and Flowers..
  15. If Upton can be bought, he needs to be had. This kid is in the dictionairy under 5-tool player. This gives us 3 potentially elite, young options in the OF. By all means send Jenks, Morel, Whatever. Just get it done.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) No, that is not the main issue. http://www.google.com/#q=justin+duchschere...aec5b20317085d1 Not even close Season ending injuries to his elbow and hip(multiple times on the hip), clinical depression that kept him out all year last year, the guy is just not tough enough to cut it, which is a shame because he is very talented. Wow, there’s a very large difference between having an injury problem and giving serious thoughts to killing yourself. Duke was completely unmotivated to do ANYTHING last year. Even his livelihood. So, yeah. Clinical depression is the real issue here.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) the guy is just too injury prone. He makes Prior look tough The main issue is that Duke suffers from clinical depression. That didn't stop Greinke though, did it?
  18. QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) My guess on the mystery reclamation project is Daniel Cabrera. I believe he is a free agent, although I may be mistaken. He's really struggled lately, being released by the Nationals last year, but he has/had big upside. Daniel Cabrera, "The Human Cock-tease" would go right along with T-Pain, in terms of guys with flawless stuff and limited ability to control it. That being said, i'm all for it, assuming we give him a dance down in AAA first. The kid's stuff is to live and die for.
  19. Yikes, he was torn up really bad too. This is great news.
  20. Upton has a world of talent. We're talking a guy who could put up 30-40. If he could ever get his s*** together. His problem is that he's lazy, the minute he gets his head in the game, he'll set the world on fire. Look at his results in the playoffs when he has something to play for there's no stopping him.
  21. Bobby’s already on tenuous grounds in this organization. If I were him I’d watch what he says.
  22. Live link to the game. http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?topic_id=7617858
  23. It would be a hell of a coup to establish a strong pipeline from Japan to go along with our Cuban one.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 01:20 PM) Santo Luis, but no Shelby? Goofy if you ask me. Santo's k-rate is pretty, but yeah, his control is either non-existent at times or fleeting. Shelby... i don't know.... end of an era i guess. He always struck me as a guy who would work well near the back-end of a trade, a lot of upside, with up and down results.
