  1. Teahen is a big guy. He can hold down 3b, well enough. Won't be pretty, but he can get the job done. Assuming we get a decent defensive OF (note, not Pods) this is still a net gain.
  2. QUOTE (tommy @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) KENNY just said Teahen plays 3B and Beckham is our new starting 2B, well holy s***. Whoa, where are you hearing this?
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) Not a chance in hell Cubs deal Marshall right now with the uncertainty of Lilly's shoulder. Good call. Forgot about that. They've already written off Harden in favor of Gorzelanny too, haven't they?
  4. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) We should cut Teahen now and just keep the money. Or better yet, cut Teahen, take the money, and use it to ship Linebrink's ass out of town. I've been toying around with something. Last offseason, one of the huge rumors was Teahen to the Cubs for Fontenot and Marshall. If we did that, got a solid lefty-bench bat, and a lefty-spot starter (with a heart-breaking curve) who can work out of the pen.... would we be encouraged? Is this possible?
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) I also wonder if Retherford has really opened the org's eyes to the point that it made Getz a bit more expendable. Or was Getz moved because of the stuff said in that Gonzalez interview. God, i hope it's the 1st. If we really moved a good kid like Getz, because Dye took issue with some generic, young comment of his then i've lost a lot of respect for this organization.
  6. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) Trade is done. Cash is coming over from KC. Shiny, everybody can be happy now. Assuming we get a fair amount from the Royals, the money we get from both this and the Dye buy out will supplement further moves. We got a high-potential Utility guy out of it, and lost a bust of a 1st-round pick, and a younger, injury prone utility guy. I see this as a win. So, this is what Broadway, Fields, Poreda, and Anderson gone inside of a year? Think Kyle McCulloch is a little scared, right now?
  7. Both players are great defensive players. Hardy, however has more potential offensive upside. Clear win for the Twins, but nothing notable other then that.
  8. QUOTE (WCSox @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) What is it with Ron Washington? Milton Bradley supposedly loved playing for him as well. Wash is just a really, cool guy. He's similiar to Ozzie in that he's a players manager. He lets the players control the clubhouse, while publically representing the team outside of it. He's one of the most respected guys in the game.
  9. The true end of an era. Thank you for everything you done for this organization, Mr. Dye.
  10. I wonder if Buddy Bell, a guy whose opinions this organization seems to really respect, put in the good word for Mark Teahen. After all Bell managed Mark for two and a half years, two of which, were pretty solid.
  11. I'd like to get a lefty-power bat for DH and a lefty-power arm for the pen. Those are my glaring needs. If we can find a better option at 2b too, i'm game, i just don't find that as pressing as replacing Thome and getting a second lefty. The pipedream hear is Chapman, and training him up for a future role as a starter, i don't see it happening.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) It is step one, there is no doubt in my mind. I think Kenny realizes that a move like this allows him to do many different things as the pieces he has left can be arranged many different ways. I remember back in 2004, watching the Rex Sox advance towards the World Series, how it always struck me that their bench was so deep and versatile that they could field a contending team no matter what happened to a starter. i think having guys like Kotsay, Teahen and Nix rotating in-and-off the bench, only makes us deeper and better. We're moving in the right direction to contend for years to come.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 08:08 AM) It has become an obsession and a distraction to the thread as a whole. It has gotten to the point where you aren't even arguing the samethings anymore, and are actually arguing against yourself at points. It is just silly at this point and really isn't germane to the discussion at hand. If you want to start a thread on whatever it is you are trying to prove (hate Getz, love Nix) feel free. Just let it go here. I agree to drop it. i disagree with your premise, but i understand your point. So, we'll let it go. I'm sorry if i was a distraction or a burden to this thread, but i think it's nice to be somewhat passionate about our team and the players within it. My point has been not to worry, things will be fine even without Getz. Keep the faith. Let's discuss more practical matters. Southsider, do you see this as another piece of the KW puzzle move, or is this a solution to a bigger problem?(whether that be LF or 2b?)
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 09:32 PM) I asked nicely once, this time I am not being so nice. Stop ruining the thread. Still not seeing the problem with having a legitmate baseball debate here. Not sure how discussing the motivations and the ramifications behind a debate is "ruining" it. We're allowed to disagree here, if you want me to back off, i'll back off, i'm just not seeing the point of contention.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 08:24 PM) Cassel went from taking the Southern League ERA crown in 2008, to basically looking like he has no future at all in 2009. Shame, too. That kid performing for us would have made a hell of story.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) The problem with Davis is that he just swings at everything. Flowers may strike out a lot, but he's also selective. They have different swings too. David has a substantial dip in his, a prominent uppercut. Flowers cuts a bit more through the zone.
  17. Teahen's only two years older then Getz, and has always stood to have a substancial gain in power. He rakes in the cell, and while i don't think he's ever going to reach his projections i do believe a line of .275 20 hr's and 85's RBI's is possible. I like the move, it reminds me a bit of the Q trade. A former 1st round pick who hasn't figured it out.
  18. My god people we talk about Chris Getz like he accomplished something here. Is he the new BA? The new Sweeney? Is this what we're trying to do here? There's no raw data to support Getz being anything other then a utility player. Intangibles are fine, but if a player lacks the track record and skill set to back said intangibles, it's pretty much a dead issue. I like Nix no doubt about it, but i can't write him in a starter. Why? Becasue he has enough issues to make his place on this team, a legitmate question mark, but he has the skill set. He has that potential, he doesn't rely on some distant intangibles, he relies on good d and solid pop. It usually produces results. And if it doesn't? We cut our losses and move on.
  19. QUOTE (qwerty @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 06:24 PM) I shook my head at that last statement of his. Talk about flip flopping. I said there's a chance he could get to .340. Would you like to write an actual rebuttal or focus on minute issues? I contend that mid 330's is likely, and that .340 is not out of the realm. I've always been consistent about this
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 05:47 PM) since you keep pulling the whip out http://www.thebaseballcube.com/Players/G/Chris-Getz.shtml There are two years in his entire career including college that he had an OBP under .340, so your track record talk is a bit of nonsense Throw out the college stats, i'm not interested in metal bat fueled numbers. Getz's career minor league OBP is .362. Over two years in AA Getz put up .326 and .382 , In AAA .366. Averaging out Getz's OBP is the upper levels of the system we put his OBP around .350. Now, Getz put up a .324 OPB in the majors ,after dealing with a broken wrist which could just sap him of a lot of his strength and quickness. Now, given Getzs' complete lack of pop it's likely he will be pitched too rather then around. Allowing for major league improvement and an approach rather then a match of his minor league numbers, i'd suggest that .340 is very possible, if not probable.
  21. Wow, what does this mean for Jason Bay? Edit: Marlins got two nice arms for a potential non-tender guy.
  22. Bill James tends to overproject, but i respect the hell out of that man, and hope like hell he's right on this.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) And by no means am I saying Getz is a star, just that I liked his intangibles and the tools and thought he had the ability to be a .300 hitter with a .360 or so OBP, solid D, and 30+ steals and some good base-running. I know we've done this before, and the deadh horse is really starting to stink, right now, but i'll always contend that there's nothing in Getzs' major and minor league track record that says he'll ever have an OBP above .340. His trends suggest this. I alos don't see the solid D, or .300 or for that matter. I could see a consistent .280 not being out of the realm of chance. I do agree with you on his base-running and speed, but i don't think that outweights his deficiencies as a player
  24. This has to be a done deal. No way KW would let two kids stew in their own juices for this long without there being something to it.
