    Films Thread

Just saw Children of Men for the 1st time in a couple of years. Forgot how great that movie was, Alfonso Cuaron is one of the better directors alive today. There's nothing as awesome in a movie as an extended shaky-cam shot through a warzone.
  2. I'd look to trade Paulie for a pitcher and a relief arm, and move Danksy and a few pieces for A-Gon. I find neither to be very probable.
  3. Danks is about two years away. I think he's going to repeat AA this year. I'd put Viciedo's ETA before his.
  4. The numbers don't lie. Mark Buehrle is just really above-average at everything he does. He's a great pitcher and an even better guy. Hell of a number #2 starter for the next couple of years too.
  5. Half of this interview has merit the other half is riddled with the same chemistry bulls*** the press has been feeding us for years. Winning builds chemistry, and really, if Konerko and Dye are that uncomfortable with people trying to take active charge in the clubhouse then they are far from the leaders we need them to be. This doesn't mean that they're not great players.
  6. Utley is single-handedly keeping the Phillies in this series
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) I think there is a fair chance they may deal Uggla and move Coghlan to 2b. I think you're onto something here. And if is this is the case we really should look into Uggla too.
  8. I like Javy, he's a dominant K-pitcher, but he pissed himself in big games, and i like Flowers more. No regrets.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 10:29 AM) Just because a thread is about Jayson Nix doesn't mean you always have to bring up Chris Getz in it... Where else was this thread going to go ChiSox? Since when does having a thread (albeit a comical one) that is critical of Jayson Nix, a guy who should be competing for Chris Getzs' job has nothing to do with Chris Getz? And can we be done with the ""this organization has recognized Getz's talent crap?" This organization wanted to start Jerry Owens and Dewayne Wise over the likes of Carlos Quentin and Nick Swisher over the last couple of years. I'm very unconcerned with what Ozzie thinks is right, and more concerned with what the numbers and a discerning eye tell me.
  10. I hate cliche's like this, but Rose needs a bit more of a killer instinct. He'd most effective when driving to the hoop, if anything he needs to be a bit more agressive.
  11. Good times were had by all this weekend.
  12. I will give them Jeff Marquez, Wilson Betemit, and Brett Lillibirdge. That's a deal breaker ladies.
  13. Chris Getz hit as many homeruns as David Eckstein and stole as many bases as Brandon Phillips. Must be some kinda of grinder-superstar hybrid. Regardless, it sounds tasty.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:32 AM) Why do people continue to think the Fish are just going to give Ross away? Don't you think they realize he is affordable, good, and young? I think the simple burden of a Florida OF logjam, and the future need to pay the guy will eventually drive him out.
  15. i strongly disagree with starting Pedro over Hamels here. I know Hamels has been bad, and Pedro has the pedigree, but Pedro isn't the same Pedro that he was with the Red Sox. There's no reason to pitch him against a lineup with a DH.
  16. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) Hermida is completely over-rated. Is this what's going to be all offseason? X team is going to trade X player, lets get him. Honestly, what else is their to do? We've got solid discussion going on about both the AFL and Getz/Nix thing. We've got another thread lying in wait for a Beckham ROY reaction, and we're all waiting for the World Series to end so we can get into the juicy offseason details. And really, i'm pretty talked out over Alejandro De Aza at this point
  17. I'd prefer Cody Ross, but Hermida is a worthy choice. He's got a heck of a lot of potential, and can be had for a low price.
  18. Thunderbolt Walks in thread, screams "JAYSON NIX." Bows, Collects Check, Leaves
  19. I don't think it matters if Nix can play other positions. As long as he can handle the one we ask him to play, i don't think anyone can complain. Getz is the viable backup here anyway. My argument is to play Getz across the field, and keep Nix at second. It's both the optimal offensive and defensive alignment. Ideally, we can find a left-handed presence for the corner Of and/or DH spots.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) I can't wait until the complaining about who we don't sign starts taking place, because at least this wretched debate will be on the backpage for a while. The inevitable Chone Figgins/Scotty Pods debacle is going to be legendary.
  21. QUOTE (quade36 @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 12:29 AM) You all need to chill about the comparisons. You both forget, they were both rookies. Its not like they have 5 years in the majors behind them. Heck, look how bad Beckham played at 3B this year, you aren't crucifying him! The bottom line isn't which player is better, its which player fits the team better. I always go back to when the Sox had Albert Belle when I talk about this stuff. Albert Belle probably had one of the single greatest White Sox player seasons ever. However, what a cancer to the team. The real issue with Nix, I feel, is you already have so many right handed power hitters/semi power hitters on this team. It really doesn't matter what hand he hits with. If Nix truly is the better hitter and fielder (as all viable metrics suggest) he deserves the job. Would it really kill us to have another 20 homeruns on the stat sheet? Regardless, of what position and side of the plate it comes from?
  22. My god we need to start hitting more homeruns.
  23. Indians hire Acta which is a great move for them, as it fits in with their Saber principles. It sucks, becasue i really like Acta too, and now i have to hate him.
  24. So has these playoffs proven that pay a lot of money/hit the s*** out of the ball beats small ball? Angels aren't small ball to the core, but they carry a lot of the core principals.
