  1. QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) Getz is never going to be a power guy, so the argument that he needs to develop it is silly. What he needs to develop is the ability to take more walks and raise his OBP by about 30 points (not quite a "massive improvement") so that he can lead off. His value as a #9 hitter is substantially less. The argument that Nix is further along than Getz also doesn't make any sense. If his strengths are power and defense, his .716 OPS and his 12 errors in 60 starts at 2B and SS don't make much of a case for him. I do agree that platooning these two next year makes a ton of sense, as neither has really made a case for himself to be in the starting lineup. A 30 point improvement is OPB is massive. Nothing in Getzs' minor league background suggest such an improvement is possible. I'd put Getz, with a year under his belt, as a candidate to have an OPB around .333. Still not great if we expect him to anchor an offense. I take issues with using errors as the end-all-be-all stats on defenders. Especially, considering the massvie range disparity that other numbers suggest exist between Getz and Nix. That being said, Nix clearly struggles against RHP'S, but would not be out of place in the 9 hole.
  2. Rios is going to be a huge factor for us next year. No need to write him off this early.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) Cub fans sure thought so... but Hendry wouldn't pay up for him. Couldn't. That system never had the fire power.
  4. Here’s our offseason goal. Last year, we all seemed fairly divided between who the Sox were going to pick. We narrowed it down to Jared Mitchell and Rex Brothers. Now, we have some time to reach a consensus.
  5. This year for my birthday I received a copy of Earl Weaver: On Strategy, a Birmingham Barons hat, A Gordon Beckham jersey, and a pack of Barons trading cards. God, I love my family.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 08:23 AM) Obviously Derek Lee hasn't visited Sox talk Did you send him the URL, Dick?
  7. QUOTE (joeynach @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) I was thoroughly pleased with Getz; played great D, stole bases, hit for average. It would be nice to see him add a bit of power and extra base hits, but hes still very young. When it comes to Nix he played ok D, I was a little dissapointed due to the fact that he was regarded as a + glove man, but hes still young too. Nix has a bit more pop in his bat, but struck out way too much and had trouble hitting for average. It was good to break these guys in though, most likely one of them will turn into an everyday starter for years to come. Are we still talking about Chris Getz and Jayson Nix here? I'm consistently shocked by White Sox fan's ability to give Chris Getz the benefit of the doubt. That his OPB will show MASSIVE improvement, that his average will dramatically raise, that he will somehow develop power, and play league-aver defense. This isn’t Chris Getz. Not yet, maybe someday, but not yet. It’s a lot to swallow. The platoon works, because Nix does have power, he does have a good eye, and he does play stellar D. but given full-playing time both will be exposed, unless they make huge leaps and bounds. And honestly, Getz has a much bigger leap to take then Nix.
  8. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 12:13 AM) I would like to take a flyer on Bailey though. The only problem is he'd have to be on our team all of 2010 and going forward or else we'd lose him to waivers. He'd have to start off in the pen and then work his way into the rotation if someone became injured/ineffective. He pitched REALLY well for the Reds down the stretch. He’d be a worth investment/replacement as a 4th starter.
  9. It’s difficult for me to temper my disappointment with how this year went, with my enthusiasm for next year, but I ll try to do my best. Losing sucks. It always has, and it always will, but I think it will prove to be worth it. Because with losing came Beckham, Peavy, Rios, Flowers, Hudson, hell even, Nix and Getz. With losing came another year of development for Q, Alexei, Danks, and Floyd, and for all these reasons with losing comes hope. On paper we're going to be the best team in this division. The White Sox are never going to make it easy on us, but it sure as hell is going to be fun.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) I thought the same thing, then they drafted Yonder Alonso.... KW could pitch a Votto move to left, but it's something of a stretch.
  11. You know what would be both badass and implausible? Doing a Fielder trade with Danks in it, and then trading Paulie for Homer Bailey and Chris Heisey. Sadly, this is both unrealistic and rendered impossible by Joey Votto.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 11:27 PM) Wha?!?!?!?! I don't feel comfortable using our best bullpen arm as a closer. Unless, we can get someone like Billy Wagner, i keep Thornton in his two inning role, and let Pena (after a full spring with Coop) try his hand at closing.
  13. QUOTE (striker62704 @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 11:07 PM) After Kenny's memo you have to wonder if Pods or Konerko will be back. They were both supposedly on the list. What memo?
  14. Trade for Cody Ross and Taylor Tankersley. Sign Bobby Abreu CF Rios 3b Beckham DH Abreu 1b Konerko RF Q LF Ross C AJ SS Ramirez 2b Nix Bench: Getz Kotsay Pods Flowrs Peavy Buehrle Floyd Danks Garcia LR: Linebrink LR: Hudson MR: Tankersley MR: Nunez SU: Thornton SU: Carrasco CL: Pena
  15. Lucky 13. Show us where it's at Laumann.
  16. I had a lot of fun this year. I'll miss these guys.
  17. Why doesn't anyone seem to understand that it doesn't matter who gets into the playoffs from the AL Central? All we need to worry about are our Sox winning. It's not a lesser of two evils, it's about the evil that is going to get their ass-handed to them by the Yankees. Let's just cheer on our boys, one last time, becasue i DO NOT want the Tigers celebrating on our asses.
  18. Sanchez, really? For Konerko? I don't think that's a worthy return.
  19. Dude. The Twins will be DESTROYED by the Yankees. Literally, they're going to have their souls eaten. Their will be nothing left of the Metrodome, because Texiera will blow a f***ing hole in it! Need i go on? This is wonderful. Our team's winning, and we're showing all the crucal elements for winning next year.
  20. Ozzie Guillen is a man of his word. He said he'd follow the proper sense of competition and he's seeing this division race to it's end.
  21. IF we sweep the Tigers, i can't help but leave with a good taste in my mouth. Yeah, it sucks about the playoffs. but we're making it next year. Of that, i have no doubt in my mind.
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) Wow.. what a crazy choke job for the Tigers. Still not over yet, but they are in real trouble. Reminds me of the Mets choking the division away to the Phillies. On the other hand, what a crazy comeback for the Twins! They are playing out their minds right now. Motownsports is always good for the Tigers message board. Not real sure about the Twins. Motownsports is AWESOME TONIGHT! Also, try Bless you Boys for the Tigers, and Twinkie Town for the Twins.
  23. Rios, Q, and Peavy showing up in the clutch. This is exactly what we needed to see from them. Ozzie has made these games meaningful, i respect him for that.
