Kalapse is right. The Dodgers, for all their foibles, are actually dealing from a position of (relative) strength here. They’re having an issue where too much flexibility is actually getting in the way of Torre putting a lineup out there. So, for multiple reasons the Dodgers are better off with Manny gone.

This game was a complete joy to watch. We clicked and embarassed the Yankees in the process. I can't say enough about the way Freddy pitched tonight. He's throwing smart ballgames, that's all we can ask for.

8/27 Gamethread - Good Guys v. Evil Empire

Tonight, I get to hear the dulcet tones of Michael Kay. Pray for me. -
I don’t think this team is in the position to care whether the guy they get is a SOB or not. Manny has two months to hit the ball and get on-base. We’re not talking about him establishing a legacy here.
-
If KW can work out a deal or assume the salary, Manny changes the complexion of this offense for the better. This is a long time coming and hopefully it’s not too late.
-
I think Manny is an SOB, but he's also a hell of a ballplayer. I'm willing to take that, because it could have a profound affect on the middle of the order for this ballclub.
-
I'm on vacation but followed the last couple outs via mlb at-bat. I hope this means that the Beckham we know and love is back. This is yet another positivie sign pointing in that direction.
-
This feels like a too little too late type of deal. It'll help the team though, i have no problems with that.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) So far we want a manager who relies only on statistics to make in game decisions, holds out for the 3 run bomb, and has great manners. You're exaggerating the point a bit, but yeah. A guy who runs that kind of game is exactly the kind of manager who could win a lot of ganes in our ballpark.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) Welcome to the dark side. It's only a couple of us, but glad to have you on board. I thought you were still on your Davey Johnson-type bandwagon. I don't think the Johnson has any interest in managing again. I'd be very interested to see if Martinez has inherited Maddon's tactical approach to the game.

QUOTE (BearingPro @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Poor Ozzie...he's all upset...how the f*** does he think we feel watching these bubbleheads day after day???? Ozzie is Upset "We had men on second base like five times with two outs, and we didn't get a hit," Guillen said. You gave away one of those outs, Ozzie. You are the cause of your own suffering.

I once did a Hawk Harrelson impression for an inning of an NECBL broadcast. And i'll be honest. It's fun not making sense.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) Sweet Lou would look awesome as our skipper next season. I say we give Dave Martinez a call. Anyone’s who spend the last few years in the same clubhouse, as Joe Maddon has to have learned something. And the stories that would come out about Sandberg/Martinez would be hysterical.

Juan Pierre is leading the damn league in stolen bases. Omar Vizquel might be one of the best bant control guys in the history of the game, and we call for a bunt EVERY SINGLE TIME. That's Ozzieball, for you.
-
I'd mark the loss today on Ozzie. He bunted us out of every inning at the end of the ballgame. Bunting with Pierre on first remains indefensible.
-
I fell asleep after we took the lead again during the 2nd game. This game was a b**** to watch here on the East Coast. As it stands, i'm not at all happy about a split against the Royals. We need to take the series.
-
This series isn't on Ozzie. It's on our arms crapping the bed when we needed them the most.
-
Hey, Chris Sale is going to be a pretty crucial piece when we land Carlos Lee next year.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) He doesn't worry about it. Jesus wants it this way. My fellow Jews are very confused with the direction this season has taken. -

There's no reason for Floyd to still be in this game. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 10:15 PM) I cannot wait for him to defend the awful performance of his pitchers on the radio in the days to come. He's quite the egomanical jerk. Coop and Jenks come from the same place in terms of being unable to accept criticism. -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) valencia > beckham? Valencia is a glorified singles hitter. Long-term, i'm taking Beckham every single time. -

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 10:01 PM) And M-Cab didn't in the last series...because....? Anyone? Because it was a limited sample size and we pitched around him? He also hit a solo shot too, didn't he?
