  1. Good to see Cowley got his requisite shot on Swish in on this one
  2. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 12:24 PM) Chuck Todd just said as stated earlier, Chicago political ties in Chicago that are connected with White House (Daley, R Emanuel, I'm looking at you) basically cornered Obama into going and Obama didn't really want to. He stated he thought it would be overkill and Chicago was being too over the top with the situation and they were twisting his arm. Todd ended up saying, If Chicago needs another favor from the White House or the president, they probably should hold off on asking because the president wasn't too happy on going in the first place. Bulls***, the President answers to know one. If Chicago really was pushing the issue they could have talked to Rahm about it. Obama wanted this, he fought for it, in the end, he failed for it.
  3. We should do another World's Fair. 1893 was pretty badass.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) Weren't they in the 2012 bidding as well? (Not at this point, but at least at the national level?) They really were. This was our 1st big push though. It's a set-back, i'm sure we'll have a run at 2020 too.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) i can understand Rio & Madrid, but how did Chicago lose to Tokyo???? GODZILLA?
  6. I do hope we can have a cohesive effort to help the school systems in Chicago. I'm just not sure how the money is going to work itself out.
  7. Any word on whether the entire presentations will be posted online? I'd love to see how that really went.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:40 AM) As stupid as it will be, he's going to be criticized/ mocked for this. I’m not trying to make an ideological political statement (that's for the Buster). Just a logical assessment. Fair or not, Obama put a lot on the line here. The Obama, Michelle, Winfrey trifecta was supposed to be a shoo-in.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) YAY!! oh man yay!!! thousands of jobs won't be created in the city you live in the midst of a recession!!! The city we all love can't be put on a stage for the whole world to see!! Glorious day!!! Yay, Daley won’t get to feed even more corruption into the city that might not have been able to sustain the Olympics anyway! I f***ing love Chicago, but we need to be realistic here. Politically, we’re corrupt to the core.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) Obama was more of the sugar on top to supposedly push it over the top. I woulndt call it an ass kicking. Still he's going to take a political hit for this one.
  11. Wow, Obama got his ass kicked on this one, didn't he?
  12. Does this mean all those people who Letterman ridiculed for being promiscuous, get to guest host for the next two weeks?
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) Man, it would really set us up well if Viciedo pans out. Hope he really settles in next year. I'm confident that he will. He had a lot to adjust to this year, and he really came around in the second half. I'd be confident enough to start him in AAA, and put him in line for a september call-up (assuming his performance warranted it). As for, Viciedo's future as a 1B, i still have him pegged for LF. I'm just not very sure that having a 5'11 1b is a good idea. Especially, with Alexei feeding him throws either in the dirt or high in the air.
  14. Anyone else getting amped for the Tigers series? I know we have nothing to play for, but it feels like we do.
  15. QUOTE (Cubano @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) I know Viciedo may be a possibility. Anybody else? Chris Marrero and Jim Gallagher, but not for a couple years down the line.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 08:29 AM) Do you guys see us going for a powerhitting 1b in the draft? In a perfect world, yes. However, there are no really ideal candidates in the 1st round of next year’s draft. There’s a lot of pitching, and a lot of good High School infield bats, but that’s about it, right now.
  17. QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 05:41 PM) If I were Kenny, I'd be dangling Jenks for Adam Dunn or Carl Crawford. Unfortunately, the Nats are such a mess that they probably wouldn't be interested in Bobby. Neither of those players can be had for a closer. Especially, if said closer is Bobby Jenks.
  18. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) Jenks for Cody Ross IMO. Use the savings to sign a lefty setup man and make Thornton the closer. That way we fill a hole (RF) without adding to the payroll. Why not just aks for one of the Marlins LHP's in the deal too? It's probably a more worthy package anyway, and they're going to have to move both Taylor Tankersley and Renyel Pinto soon anyway.
  19. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) I'll be rooting for the Sox to lose this weekend. I could never to do this. And i HATE the Yankees.
  20. No doubt, the Tigers still stand the best chance to take this division. I just hope we fight them tooth and nail, for it. If they don't win the 1st game of the series, the pressure is going to be insane for them. Especially, given the fact that they desperatley want to rest Verlander for Game 1 of the playoffs.
  21. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 03:52 PM) If Verlander has to pitch Sunday, any chance the Tigers had in the first playoff series is gone unless they bring him back early. That’s why they absolutely need to win the Peavy –Jackson game. If they don’t they could be in the same position the Sox were last year. With having to start a less than ideal candidate in game one of the playoffs.
  22. The Twins have the advantage in all, but one game. (Greinke.) Meanwhile, the Tigers have to face: Peavy- Jackson. Great Game. Advantage: Sox Garcia-Figaro Advantage: Sox Danks-Verlander Advantage: Tigers (But close.) Assuming Ozzie puts the troops in order, we’re in perfect position to play the spoiler.
  23. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) Steak and a BJ. Sit him down for a Steak Dinner. Steak Dinner BOOM. That being said we are not getting Andrew McCutched. Unless, we want to trade Gordon Beckham.
  24. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) Joe Mauer has never actually taken part in a postseason victory. Neither has Jake Peavy. Doesn't mean they're both not great players.
