  1. Why is Wise getting all of this playing time? Does he really count as one of the "young guys?"
  2. I predict a nice season for Holmberg next year. If he really does refine his approach he'll be a staple in the White Sox top ten prospects lists for a couple years to come
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) Chocolate is totally overrated. There, I said it. +1, Vanilla for the Win.
  4. They were the most likely candidates. Although, I imagine this is more of an effort to get Flowers some playing time then it is a punishment
  5. I actually wouldn't mind seeing the Twins make the playoffs over the Tigers. I'm very comfortable that they'll be destroyed by whomever they face. This way it's like a double b**** slap for Detroit and the Twin City.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) That article stinks. Basically everyone is coming back, and none of the kids has a spot yet? Iwamura will not be the biggest name to not come back. Exactly, and also the trade for Sean Rodriquez and the emergence of Reid Brignac nearly necessitate a move of some kind, not just call for it.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) NO ONE was going to trust Marquis before this season. It's starting to look like the Rockies are going to leave him off the postseason roster too.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) John Danks remains highly overrated around these parts. I'd expect no better than a 3.50 era. (still awesome, but not as great as y'all think). John Danks is our #4 pitcher next year. The numbers he's been putting up are nigh exceptional for his age.
  9. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) This doesn't think either will be dealt: http://www.tampabay.com/sports/baseball/ra...fseason/1039549 Regardless, Desmond Jennings is ready to play. He's got to play somewhere too.
  10. God, that Adenhart video is really touching. What a great, thoughtful thing to do for the kid.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 01:29 AM) I beg to differ. If anything, he's stepped up recently, what with his 3.38 ERA in August and September thus far. He's also put up a 4.14 ERA in both the first and second halves of the season, and has really been an anchor in the Detroit rotation. His BB/9 and K/9 are awful. He gives up 9.4 h/9, and his homerun rate is inflated. As opposed to Brett Anderson who is putting up better numbers with a weaker offense and defense behind him.
  12. Broussard, Castillo, Dawkins, Myrow, and Phillips are no longer in the organization.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Rule V eligible (* if currently on 40 man and protected): SAVE Brandon Hynick Brian Omogrosso Kyle McCulloch (i have a weakness for 1st round picks) Cristian Marrero John Shelby Stefan Gartrell Minor League FA's: SIGN Josh Kroeger Fernando Hernandez
  14. Dotel is something of an enigma, but he's a great relief pitcher. He tends to go through Marte-esque firstarter stages, but when push comes to show his K-rate is nearly always steller, and he can be counted on big spots. That being said he needs to be let go if his signing will affect our draft status.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 12:06 AM) Step 2: Put your junk in that box Step 3: Make her open the box.
  16. Anyone else find clean shaven Danks a bit odd looking?
  17. Even still Upton's ceiling is amazing. I'd give up a hell of a lot to bring a guy like him in.
  18. QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) Beckham making a late ROY push, doubt it gets him ahead of Porcello or Andrus since they're in the playoff hunt, but you never know... I think it does. Porcello has really fallen off, and Andrus is giving limited offensive production. The real issue here is Brett Anderson, Jeff Niemann, and Andrew Bailey.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) We'd all have been fine with that but the Yankees would never do that. Then we never should have made the trade with the Yankees. Equal returns or bust.
  20. Getz has 2 bombs, 18 db's an 2 3b's, and. Upton has 10 bombs, 31 db's and 3 3b's. See the difference?
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) Of course when you compare him to Wise he's going to improve our offense. That doesn't mean that he's even a good fit. I agree with the premise that the differences between Swish and Ozzie were irreconcilable. I will never agree, however, that Swish couldn't have found a home here given the chance. I just wish we could have gotten something for him. Honestly, swap Marquez for Ian Kennedy and I’m fine with that trade.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 09:40 PM) GMAB. Don't compare Upton and f***in' Getz. Yeah, I'd wait to see if he bounces back. But I think even if they decided to trade him this offseason they would get a nice haul. Haven't you heard? Grinderness>Better than 5-tool potential
  23. QUOTE (almagest @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) 3.6 wins? Really? Assuming our awful blackhole in CF is around 0 WAR, assuming WAR is actually valid in predicting wins and isn't just a semi-reasonable statistical estimate, and assuming Swisher actually produced with us, we'd be either 78-78 or 79-77, 5 or 6 games back of Detroit, and 3 or 4 games behind Minnesota, with 6 games to play. You honestly think this constitutes being "back in the race?" Even if our centerfielders had produced a negative WAR value, we'd still likely need to vault over both Minnesota and Detroit to win the division, and that's just not likely. You're relying on an awful lot of "ifs". Are you really going to argue that having a high OBP-player like Swish in the lineup wouldn't change our offensive output. Keep in mind that Swish isn't only going to drive in 85 Runs, but he's also going to set the table for all the other big bats in the lineup. As opposed to Wise who is going to K or ground out.
