  1. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) Very interesting idea. We're going to need piecemeal solutions until AJP and Konerko are off the books. Too many holes right now. I only see two holes in our lineup as presently constructed, At LF, and DH. And this is only because I have Pods slotted in as a 4th OF, and Q in RF.
  2. Dollhouse was fantastic last night. It's a shame nobody is watching it. Also saw Sunny and Fringe both great efforts.
  3. Chapman was declared a free agent yesterday. Let the bidding war begin!
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 02:14 AM) Unless something like 05 happens, that's not a very good bullpen. You're going to need career years out of Pena, Carrasco, Thornton, and Linebrink to have a solid bullpen. I honestly don't see that happening. I think it would be a decent bullpen, but I pretty much agree with you. The premise of the thread was a cheap bullpen; I simply showed what my arrangement of what our in-house options would be.
  5. QUOTE (daggins @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 11:31 PM) DH + Herm So maybe 250. Add in a good backup plan with Mark Kotsay on the team.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) Whisler got dropped from the 40-man too. Outrighted to AAA. The 40-man roster is at 37. There goes our only lefty above A.
  7. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 12:03 AM) Garcia will be starting with someone else before he's a long reliever. Not gonna happen. Linebrink doesn't have the stuff for long relief either. Carrasco is perfect for that role and should be considered a swingman reliever. We clearly need to find something for Linebrink to do. Garbage relief might be exactly what we can expect from him. Carrasco has been one of the more reliable arms in the pen, and has earned enough trust to carry the game into the 9th alongside Thornton.
  8. Pretty night by Peavy. A great example of why we're sitting (somewhat) pretty for 2010
  9. We can afford to gamble on Pena as a closer. Why? Because he has the stuff, and taking Thornton out of his current role would be a tragic mistake. LR: Garcia LR: Linebrink MR; Nunez MR: Second Lefty SU: Thornton SU: Carrasco CL: Pena
  10. Gordon Beckham picked a great time for his final ROY push.
  11. Wow. I'll miss Egbert. Hopefully, he can find a place over there.
  12. Holmberg was #6 in Baseball America’s top Appalachian League’s Top 20 prospects. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...009/268916.html. Here’s their write up on him : 6. David Holmberg, lhp, Bristol (White Sox) B-T: R-L Ht.: 6-4 Wt.: 220 Age: 18 Drafted: White Sox '09 (2) The sixth prep lefty taken in the 2009 draft, Holmberg went to the White Sox in the second round. Brought along slowly as a pro, he won his final two starts for Bristol because they were the first two in which he completed five innings. Six-foot-4 and a bit soft-bodied, Holmberg has room to grow stronger and improve upon his present high-80s velocity. He sits at 86-88 mph and touches 90 from a straight overhand delivery, which aids him in getting good plane to the plate. Quick hand speed enables Holmberg to spin quality 12-to-6 curveballs with above-average break and depth. He mixes in a plus changeup and throws an occasional slider. His secondary stuff and precocious feel for locating his pitches and for changing speeds marks him as a future mid-rotation candidate, particularly if he adds a few ticks to his fastball.
  13. I'd kill to have Mark Lowe on this team. He's pretty much Matt Thornton with a better breaking ball.
  14. Whoa, haven't thought of Michael Dubee in a while.
  15. I guess if i had to root for an AL team if would be the Red Sox, but i'm tired of the Red Sox winning. When the White Sox aren't in it, I root for the underdogs. There are no potential underdogs in the playoffs for the AL. Unless, you count the Twins, and i f***ing hate the Twins.
  16. QUOTE (daggins @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) That was my argument - that they didn't have the bullets for the pie-in-the-sky trades usually proposed in threads like this. The Sox have plenty of mid-range fodder to pick up bullpen arms and comeback candidates like Hermida. I've been advocating trading for him for a while. Guys like Reyes or Upton, though, are probably out of Kenny's reach. Ah, well. Happy we're in agreement.
  17. I'm rooting for the NL to win the World Series this year. I can't see myself rooting for anyone amongst the Yankees, Angels, Red Sox, and Tigers/Twins.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) where is our power going to come from next year? As of now? Q, Rios, Beckham, Konerko, Nix, and Alexei.
  19. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) Dont hide behind saying the guys underachieved just to cover your own ass. What is that supposed to accomplish? But they did underachieve. Jenks, Dye, Ramirez, and Rios weren't supposed to be this bad for long stretches in the season. Had any of them put up consistent quality stretches when it matted, we'd still be competing. There's nothing KW could have done about that.
  20. QUOTE (daggins @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) he simply has no trade bait. Please, we are made of filler. Players like Shelby and Ely are ideal package deal pieces. We're not going to blow anyone out of the water, but we can get solid mid-tier deals done .I like the idea of going after Ross/Hermida and Pinto/Tankersley from the Marlins. They have a pressing need to clear space for Maybin, and both can be had for a worthy price. It would be great to have a young, OPB-oriented, power bat, and a second lefty for the pen.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 06:00 AM) Well, the Sox are officially eliminated from playoff contention. Took them long enough.
  22. I think a lot of our problems next year could be solved by signing Thome, and trying to swing a trade for either Cody Ross or Jeremy Hermida, and one of Florida's Lefty relievers (Pinto or Tankersley). Both pitchers BB/9 ratios's are a bit alarming, but i imagine they'd be a lot more useful then Randy Williams
