  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) I think he's pointing his finger at me. I quit believing in this team after the road trip from hell. I'm with KyYlE23 . I quit on the team after you quit in the team. You're a quitter dude, and you've set a poor example for all of us.
  2. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) I like KW but the players he got included Colon Wise Betemit Lillibridge Pena Miller and Castro On the other hand, Peavy, Rios, Nix, Flowers, and Nunez all have had some use this year, and perhaps moreso, next year.
  3. Paul Konerko doesn't bunt, nor should he. Asking for a bunt from either Paulie, Thome, or even Dye needs to be considered a fireable offense.
  4. KW got us the players. He had no control on whether they actually performed.
  5. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) How is that? KW seems to be stressing OPB and extra-base hits, while Ozzie continues to talk about going in a more small-ball oriented direction.
  6. Hudson will be starting again Sunday. Looks like Floyd's done for the year.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) Following his age progression, he should be about 30 and working at a bank by now, right? If you believe fans on the net he’s either Mr. Eko, or that dude from Fringe at this point.
  8. KW’s plan for next season sounds great. If we execute them, we win this division by a wide margin. They seem to fundamentally, clash with Ozzie’s smallball instincts, and I wonder if that situation will come to a head.

    LOST!!!!

I hope we got some Walt payoff this year.
  10. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 01:53 AM) Perfectly stated. Raines was shown the door and probably did more than any other coaches not named Razor Shines or Joey Cora. Wait, was Raines fired or did he choose to leave? I honestly can't remember.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) If Getz is such a bad defender at second, what the heck makes you think he would be better at the tougher positions. Almost by definition if Nix is so far superior in range and arm strength, that should mean he would be more valuable at the other positions. Nixs’ inherent value lies in his defense at 2nd. He’s looked serviceable at 3rd, and shaky at 2nd, which leads me to think his value lies in playing 2nd on an everyday basis. I also think Getz is a slightly better fielder then the guy we’re seeing this year, not on the Nix plane, but more than serviceable just the same. In the minors, Getz played nearly every position, and played them well. He has a skillset that serves a very good utility player.
  12. I like the platoon in theory. I just think Getz would have more use for this team playing all around the field.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) are they going to shape outfield like a penis? Beat me to it. Damn
  14. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 12:21 AM) Anybody who's actually watched Nix play SS or 2B this year can clearly see that he's been an error-machine and hasn't played plus-defense. Same goes or Alexei. Range and raw talent don't necessarily equal results. Too bad that his play on the field doesn't. Are you being intentionally dim here, or are you just oblivious to what Nix has been doing all year? According to all the advances metrics Nix has been worth 1.3 wins for the team this year. He is 2.9 runs above average defensively, and .2 runs above average offensively. By almost every account, but your “eye test” Jayson Nix is a very good player.
  15. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 12:08 AM) Bullcrap. Nix has been nothing short of a butcher in the middle infield this year, yet you consistently hold his nuts and make excuses for him. Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing him off yet. I see that he has talent. But, like Alexei, it doesn't mean much if he consistently botches routine plays. If Nix expects to be the starting 2B next year, he needs to either cut down on the errors or start hitting the ball like Jose Valentin. A guy with great range who can't hit and consistently gives the opponent extra outs isn't worth much on a major league roster. Wow, you're all sorts of wrong. Nix has been fantastic all year. He's been the best defender on our team ALL YEAR. I might make excuses for him, but it's becasue the numbers back me up. He's a lot better then Getz and the margin is so signifcant that it makes Getz look like at amateur. The fact is: Nix was touted in the minor leagues as one of the best defenders that anyone had seen in years, his play this year has not only given flashes of that potential, but has produced great results for the team. Not to mention he's on pace to hit 30 homeruns, and knows how to work an AB.
  16. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 11:49 PM) Nix has made Alexei look like Ozzie Smith this year. I realize that Nix is defensively talented and versatile, but it's difficult to skate by on potential at his age when he's a veritable error machine on the field. Look at the real numbers. Error's is a flawed statistic, becasue it doesn't account for the range of the fielder, or the effort it took for said fielder to get to the point of making a play on the ball. Nix has tremendous range, and has saved a tremendous amounts of run for a team that suffered for defense. I'll grant that he's prone to making some poor choices in the field, but more often then not, he get's the job done in an extraordinary fashion.
  17. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 11:25 PM) Nor can he hit with RISP. If Jason Nix is our fulltime starter next year we're screwed. We could be screwed anyway, but still Nixs' glove makes up for nearly every offensive shortcoming he has. It's also fair to assume that he will improve on offense. After all, this is his rookie year.
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 11:26 PM) I'll update the draft status every 5 games or so till the season ends but if Oakland wins tonight, we will the 12th and only 1.5 games back I believe of the 10th spot. I hope we don't tank the rest of the year, but i recognize that its over at this point. Beckham was our reward for 2007. Hopefully, we get something nice next year too.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 11:02 PM) Leo Mazzone can't find a job. Nor can Rick Peterson.
  20. I'd also argue that Getzs' value to the team increases exponentially across the diamond. The reason he was so good in the minors was that he was so versatile.
  21. Dye appears to be reading the paper. It might be too little too late.
  22. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:42 PM) I really hope Nix is our starter at 2b next year Me too. Hopefully, we can get Getz into a nice utility role. He's got really great potential value if he can play across the field.
  23. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....rom-within.html He mentions that he wants a team with players that are reliant on OBP and extra base hits (I assume he means slugging), but he says that he wants to improve within the organization and hints that there won't be any big FA signings. I wonder how this offseason will pan out. If he wants better OBP, more extra base hits, and better defense, I wonder if he will want Nix to be playing at 2b. I f***ing love this plan! It doesn't seem to really mesh with what we've been hearing from Ozzie though.
