QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 12:27 AM) (1) Adding a selfish player with anger management problems isn't going to help the Sox score more runs. No, but adding a guy whose main skill is getting on-base will.

Is this the #1 Reason for our 2nd half debacle
ThunderBolt replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (joeynach @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 03:37 AM) Somehow the tigers got better from 2008 to 2009 and they really didnt add or overhaul anything in their lineup. They tried the Rays model. Injected youth, defense, and remade their bullpen. They weren't great at it, but it clearly made them better. -

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 11:27 PM) I think like Stoney said if he can learn to control a third pitch like his slider, Hudson could be damn good. I love how when he misses, he misses low with his breaking stuff. That's a great sign. -

If Dan Hudson can work on his control, he's going to be a dominant pitcher in this league. -
Zambrano: Sox One of Three Teams He Would Go To
ThunderBolt replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (rangercal @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 06:06 PM) It's not your money or my money, so who cares? Personally, i like Big Z. I'd just rather have Hudson have a go at the 5 hole, and spend our money elsewhere. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) The Astros just fired Cecil Cooper. Didn't they give him an extension a couple months ago? Yup. About time too. Now, they have to fire the owner and GM, and they'll be set.

Strange to say, but we don't need another pitcher. -
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) The Rangers offered him a smart baseball deal. It was a lowball offer compared to the Cubs, but that's only because the Cubs are run by a tree full of monkeys. They also had no pressing need to keep him. Nelson Cruz was banging on the door/

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) Really, that's what you see in him? An irrational desire to win? I haven't gotten that impression at all. What i meant was that Bradley really doesn't seem to give a damn about where he plays, as long as it puts him in a place where he can win. From what i've heard he's a really isolated guy in the clubhouse, he's focused, when his focus gets compromised he gets really pissed off.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) And letting Adrian Beltre go while bringing J.D. Drew in. And not winning the division in 2005. And trading away Mota who was working as Gagne's setup man. But Bradley's presence and suckiness certainly played a role, don't kidd us. There's a reason that one of Coletti's first moves was to clear Bradley out. Drew was actually pretty good as a Dodger. Depo also brought Brad Penny, Derek Lowe and Jeff Kent in. He made room for Martin by trading Lo Duca. Let Beltre go, when it proved cost effective. He traded away Mota as a piece for an eventual Randy Johnson move that never came through. Depo, with Logan White, helped inject a lot of youth into the organization, he had one great year, and one bad year, and deserved another shot.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) Paul DePodesta probably counts, although it wasn't just Bradley. But a .900 OPS out of Bradley in a complete season in 2005 might well have saved DePodesta. Depo was fired for a variety of reasons. The most prominent reason being that the McCourt’s caved to public pressure from the Anti-Sabermetric press (who insisted on calling the man "Google Boy") The second being the intense backlash from Depo trading Paul La Duca, a move that was revealed years later, as a move to get La Duca (who was dealing roids) out of the clubhouse. I really love Depo, guy needs another GM job.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) I'm saying it can be written off, because KW is an educated man who would never bring this clown into his clubhouse and also doesn't need the grief of the media who would find story after story of what a clown Bradley is. No baseball teams suspend guys for talking to the media and the Cubs just did it because they can't stand the idea of having Bradley with their team one more day. I don't know KW but I have studied him in interviews. He would never take on this clown. Educated men learn from others' mistakes and he can see what a mistake Bradley would be. I'm still hoping whatever he saw in Rios emerges next year. At least Rios hasn't acted like an ass. I'm sure we'd have heard stories in the media by now if hitless Rios was being a dick. We have the most pleasant conversations, Greg. I actually love how much we disagree with each other. That's why i miss BearSox too. Good baseball debate is a stimulating exercise.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) Not really. AJ was in one bad situation. Bradley has been on seven teams in nine years, none of which wanted him back. Rangers did, but i recognize your point. I do like Bradley, but i'm playing a bit of the devil's advocate here.

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) So recently I got into contact on facebook with who was my best friend from about 4th grade to high school. I havent talked to him in probably 12 years and I am kinda thinkin from his FB page he is gay which surprises me a bit. I am not sure if he is and it doesnt really matter but we are supposed to hang out and I feel a little uncomfortable about it. Not that I think he would make a pass because that is stupid, but that he might feel uncomfortable cause I would pretty much make fun a gay people all the time when I was younger including my gay brother. I know it was bad, I grew up though and found out it was totally ridiculous to look at them in a bad way. Thanks to my brother. My rambling here makes me think maybe I am still a little homophobic...damnit. I got "surprise gayed" by one of my college friends recently. It’s a weird feeling, because it makes you reexamine every conversation you ever had with the guy. I don’t think I’ve ever said anything homophobic to him, but I was pretty open about talking to him about getting girls, essentially, I talked to him like a straight guy would talk to another straight guy. I know this shouldn’t bother me, because I never even suspected he was gay, but I do wonder if I ever seemed like an asshole in any of our conversations.

I draw the line at steroid users, but honestly, if the Sox could win the World Series with the 9 biggest Assholes in the world in the lineup, i'd take it. No doubt in my mind.

Top-5 prospects Kenny will trade this offseason
ThunderBolt replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in FutureSox Board
I'm still a bit shocked that both Ely and Shelby are still in the system. I mean... i like both those guys, they just seem like people KW would have traded already. -
Bradley is yet to get one GM fired. Although he did throw a chair at Billy Beane once. There's no question that he's something of a nutcase, but he's a proven hitter, who has shown that he can thrive in the right environment. I believe the Sox have that kind of environment. Now, i'm not going to make a push for Bradley, because i understand why it probably wouldn't work, i'm just saying that it can't be written off.
-
QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) ^^^ I'd rather go 72-90 with Pods or Kotsay at DH than bring a nutcase douche like Bradley into the clubhouse. Wow, that's really sad to hear. Some fan you are.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) This is exactly what you are advocating in the Bradley/Linebrink thread Not even close. Bradley would fill a hole on our team next year. We'd also be making a financially feasible move. Oh, and if you ever have the opportunity to trading an aging, failing relief pitcher who is signed to a horrible contract, for a premium switch-hitting offensive talent who is available for said pitcher, you do it. Hendry trades for Craig Monroe for the hell of it.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) Hendry needs to go. He's made a lot of bad contracts. He's a brutal GM. He's a guy who trades for the sake of a trade.

Show 'em how it's done, Hudson! -
AJ was "Clubhouse poison." Jurassic Carl was INSANE, Floyd was a pushover, and Jenks was a punk. People change in our clubhouse, this might be Ozzie's biggest strength
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) Bradley gets bent out of shape when he gets booed. Can you imagine how long his fragile psyche would last on the South Side? I'd give him a week. LOL. Sounds like AJ before he came to the Sox, doesn't it? The best year Bradley ever had was with a laid-back manager (Wash) in a really relaxed clubhouse. Sweet Lou felt the need to try to intimidate Bradley, Bradley hates that. If you talk to the guy on his level, he'll produce and behave.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) Even though he's in the NL, the year he's having actually isnt that bad. He's an On-base machine. I'd bat him fairly high in our order.
-
We do this. No questions asked. He's a DH in the NL. He's having a s***ty year for a s***ty team, and he's in the wrong environment. Ozzie is the kind of manager he needs.
