  1. "He dedicated himself this offseason in Arizona to the real rigors of a [conditioning] program," Regier said. "He wasn't physical at all in Double-A, but the program seems to have increased his strength and stamina. He's a contact hitter and an improving defender. And, though he was at Birmingham last year, there's no stigma in repeating Double-A, because you're just a phone call away from the big leagues. If you had to repeat extended [spring Training] or Class A there might be, but not Double-A." http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...b&fext=.jsp Baseball America has Getz pegged as a utitly man “Chris Getz, from Michigan, could be effective, but only in the way in which smallish second baseman can be. “http://baseballanalysts.com/archives/2005/06/drafting_team_r_1.php “check out Chris Getz. He has moved himself into utility role consideration for the White Sox, possibly by some time next season. “http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071211&content_id=328778&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jsp CHRIS GETZ 2B Triple-A Charlotte/White Sox Getz has excellent speed, bat control and defensive versatility, stamping himself as a future utility player. With his improved power, though, he was making a case to be a regular. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...008/266404.html
  2. Greinke is having a historically GREAT season. My gods this should be cut and dry. Instead, we get Yankee homers who are fighting tooth and nail to rob not only Greinke, but Mauer of awards that they richly deserve.
  3. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Pretty much what I expected. Articles written by sports-writers/bloggers do not qualify as scouting reports. How many of those guys actually watch players to evaluate their skills... or are even qualified to make more than a fan-level judgment? None. John Sickels and the guys from Fangraphs are two of the more respected sources in thefield. It’s amazing that you think you can just discredit everything in one sentence after I thoroughly reposed to your criticism over a lack of scouting reports. The reason there is not a depth of professional scouting reports (you know other than the 5 or so legitimate ones I’ve found) is because no one really cares enough to write up about Chris Getz. Why? Because he is a thoroughly unexceptionable baseball player. Would you like me to find you the dazzling reports about Jayson Nix now, or can those be tossed away too? Also, why the hell do we care about what Ozzie thinks here? I find his judgment impaired given that he’s the manager of the team on which Getz plays.
  4. Chapman has established residency in Andorra http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/base...l#ixzz0RkhcxNaK
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) For all the things Bradley has done this year, they suspend him for actually saying accurate things about their fans and organization. And now he'll be dumped for absolutely nothing in return this winter. Typical Cubs. Scapegoat, much?
  6. i think we should play close attention to what Huddy does tonight. There's a lot more then just a spot-start riding for the kid tonight.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 10:41 PM) He didn't exactly "Hit" this year. Injuries sure, non-DH sure, but blah Regardless he’s been scapegoated (I like to call it being Swishered) for a lot of the Cubs failings that were beyond his control. I think hes a got a bit of a temper to him, but he’s really driven by an (almost) irrational desire to win. In a lot of ways, he’d be a perfect fit in the White Sox clubhouse. Especially, as a buy low KW special.
  8. QUOTE (tommy @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 12:59 AM) Well game will probably be available on Comcast ON-Demand if you really wanna see this guy. Sadly, not that interested. Good luck on your search though, SockMe. How'd you get such good seats?

    Films Thread

I just saw The Black Dahlia. My god was that bad. How does Josh Hartnett have a career after all that mumbling? All his films need to have subtitles.
  10. Bartolo Colon is licking his chops. Why? Because Colon isn't picky. He's an equal ppportunity eater and this is one opportunity that he isn’t going to pass up.
  11. Anyone with a TIVO get a picture? I was watching the game, but wasn't paying attention to the crowd.
  12. QUOTE (tommy @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 12:40 AM) Go ahead and tell me to keep on dreaming. Some might say you're a dreamer, Tommy. But you're not the only one. I'm with you. Everything's important till the math no longer works in our favor. Till then dream way.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 12:18 AM) Haha, Cutler looks trashed. Beckham's nuts then Cutler's face. D-Rose needs to watch his ass.
  14. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 10:40 PM) Ample proof, eh? Please provide me any minor league scouting reports or other resources you can find that talk about Getz's defense. Getz draft report: Throws have carry. Soft hands, quick feet. Steady fielder. Solid 2B. Arm strength for all INF position. Instincts, knows how to play. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2005/...team&sp=cha “Lacks power and isn't a great defensive second baseman” http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/players/Chris_Getz “Comparing their season numbers, Nix has the edge over Getz—both offensively and defensively. Nix has a .761 OPS to Getz’ .691, aided by 10 home runs to the two Getz has to his name. Nix also has the advantage with the glove. UZR has Nix at 5.4 at second base—the highest UZR of any player on the White Sox—compared to Getz’ -3.0. Overall, FanGraphs has Nix worth 1.2 wins and Getz 0.4” http://baseballdigest.com/american-league/...-the-white-sox/ “Getz has average defensive tools, but is fundamentally sound. His best position is second base, but he can play shortstop or the outfield without hurting you too badly, though an average arm is a limit.” http://www.minorleagueball.com/2009/3/25/810157/chris-getz “I'm far more concerned with Getz' defense than his offense, though. I never would have expected Getz to have a -3.7 UZR heading into the All-Star break, but that's exactly the case. I don't think anybody expected a through-the-roof UZR from Getz, but at the least, I thought he was going to be an average defensive second baseman. And while he's not Dan Uggla bad, it's still disappointing to see him in the bottom third of MLB second basemen in terms of defense. Combined with his offense, it's not all that surprising that he's barely rated as a replacement-level player by WAR (-0.1).” http://bleacherreport.com/articles/216791-...card-infielders Oddly, every scouting report I see says that his future as a utility man, and his “disturbing lack of power (not my words) is an issue”
  15. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) Small.sample.size There's ample proof from their minor league scouting reports that their is a very real disparity between Nix and Getz in the field. Not to mention the sample size you're taking issue with isn't actually that small.
  16. Wow, Villanova is pretty much their Viciedo. He's a really big deal in their system. Something of a bust, but with great potential.
  17. According to the Trib, the Sox will turn to Dan Hudson to make the 1st of his young career against the Twins. Given the circumstances this is something of a big deal. It's a ballsy move, but i love it. "Just 15 months ago, Daniel Hudson was finishing up his season at Old Dominion. On Monday, he pitches the biggest game of the season for the White Sox. The fifth-round draft choice one year ago in June, Hudson won the job of facing the Twins in a do-or-die week for the Sox because manager Ozzie Guillen likes the way he has pitched in only 5 2/3 innings. "This is what it's all about, pitching in September in the middle of a pennant push," Hudson said. At four minor-league levels in his first pro season, Hudson compiled a 14-5 record, and was 7-0 in his last nine starts. Hudson was chosen over D.J. Carrasco, who is 5-0 with a 2.69 ERA in 18 appearances against the Twins." http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,1141916.story
  18. I wonder if the Milton Bradley thing is going to be like what happened with the Sox and Swisher. Wherein, they'll give up the guy for anything. Bradley can hit, he's a DH in the NL, but he is an On-Base Machine.
  19. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 05:39 PM) A completely misguided directive of anger. Chris Getz is a rookie baseball player and has faired quite well in his first year while all those established power hitting guys have absolutely screwed the pooch. He gives this team the little bit of speed it has, he's NOT playing a corner position which means he doesn't necessarily need to be a slugger like Mike Schmidt. He he has excellent bat control, an understanding of the strike zone, speed and is a good fit on this team. The point is simple: Chris Getz is not the best 2b on this roster. Jayson Nix is also a rookie baseball player, who has shown the ability to hit the ball out of the ballpark, and does not rely on hitting it softly in front of a defender and running like hell. The platoon makes sense for the rest of rest year, but when your strength is excellent bat control, your potential at the major league level is limited. Break it down for me: what does Chris Getz do right? How many runs does he contribute to this team? What inherent value comes from his strengths? I've acknowledged how good he is when he gets on base, but just because we have 8 other guys who can hit on a team, doesn't necessitate the need for a ROLEPLAYER (as you said). Chris Getz is not the biggest problem on this team, I never said that, but he's not an ultimate solution fort next year.
  20. Final word (hopefully?) on Bartolo Colon from Ozzie. MIA no more The search for Bartolo Colon ended Wednesday, when the Sox announced they'd requested waivers on the right-hander for the purpose of granting him his unconditional release. While Colon's return to the South Side was basically a disaster, it was memorable. Colon, 36, went missing twice while dealing with injuries, and he had to be tracked down by the club through his agent during his first MIA. He went 3-6 with a 4.19 ERA in 12 starts this season. After battling a knee problem, he came back for a short stint before inflammation built up in his right elbow. He was put on the disabled list a second time retroactive to July 25, then disappeared again. ''He never went along with the program,'' manager Ozzie Guillen said. ''That cost the trust of the trainers here. He wasn't found, and then one day he showed up and the next day he doesn't. He's supposed to do this, this, this and that [in the rehab], and he didn't do it.'' http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...soxnt17.article
  21. Think the Reds would even think about giving us Bailey for Dye at this point?
  22. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) Jake Egbert is going to win a Cy Young some day. I always thought it was a bit unfair to let that guy pitch against that school for the blind anyway.
  23. Poor effort from EVERYONE, but Freddy tonight. I’m going to take a lot of flak for this, but Chris Getz does absolutely nothing for me. I admire his tenacity, and his speed on the bases, but Chris Getz only hits singles. SOFT SINGLES. There's never really any alternative for him. He can work a double in the gap, but he doesn't rely on anything other then speed to get him their. He had no extra-base power, rarely gets anything behind his hits, he doesn’t walk nearly enough to have a decent OPB, and his defense is suspect. He’s wonderfully fundamentally sound, but he is not a long-term option at 2b. And that is why I won’t be disappointed if Nix gets the majority of playing time, and CJ Retherford gets an invite to spring training next year.
  24. Great idea, Ozzie! And that is why Dewayne Wise should not be on this team.
