  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) Good idea to bench your most consistent hitter of the year (Pods). Right now, yeah. But assuming Dye gets his ass in gear, the above lineup is the one you go to war with.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Everyone who is clamoring for us to trade him in the offseason will really regret that if we ever do. He is such a beneficial part to this ball club. His first pitch swinging can at times be frustrating, but he's just so under appreciated here. It's surprising actually. For a little while, yes, but Tyler Flowers will make those regrets pass very quickly.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 10:40 AM) Rios, Beckham, Quentin, Konerko, Thome, Dye, Pierzynski, Ramirez, Nix I REALLY like this lineup. I think this might just be the ideal offensive set of guys we could put out their.
  4. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) A terrible mistake. Pathetic to deal a nice power hitting prospect for a freaking middle relief guy (who isn't any good anyway) Exactly, a major league organization needs to prioritize plus-positional talent over relief pitching. It’s a simple numbers game: Allen, ideally, plays every day of the week in innings 1-9; Pena gives you maybe 3-4 innings per week. Its’ easy to see who has more value to a ballclub. I imagine the D-Backs were thrilled when KW called to offer them this stinker of a deal. This almost reminds me of when we drafted Royce Ring back in the 2002 draft. It’s an absolutely absurd over-valuation of a relief pitcher.
  5. Jayson Nix with a great game. Hope he continues to leave a good impression before Getz gets back
  6. Restovich hit two bombs today.
  7. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 11:51 PM) Allen just hit his first ML homer A 3-run shot no less.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) And you don't give a guy his debut at Yankee stadium in a playoff race. The Sox made that mistake with Neal Cotts and I sure as hell hope they don't do that again. Do you really have that little confidence in the kid? Furthermore, when do we stop preparing for the playoffs and start getting ready for next year? We're not very good. I'd rather give a kid the thrill of pitching in Yankee Stadium for his 1st start then see Torres getting his ass handed to him again.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) You guys. I did not say fire him. I said he needs to win this farking division. I think a lot of people see Ozzie being fired as the consequence of losing this crap division.
  10. I don’t care how “tight” Ozzie is. I don’t care what fire, what passion, he displays. I care about the numerous tactical mistakes he makes over the course of a game. He’s lost us a couple of ball games this year.
  11. QUOTE (Special K @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 01:07 AM) thanks to Walker's philosophy of seeing a lot of pitches. It's absolutely stupid, you should swing at "your pitch," no matter what the count. Beckham used to swing at the first pitch when he got up and it led to a lot of his early success, and now even he doesn't do it. And it's no surpise Rios comes to the Sox and enters an 8-40 slump once Walk got a hold of him. Walkers take a lot of pitches philosophy? Have you even watched AJ and Alexei bat? Oh, please. Beckham never experienced success by swinging at the 1sat pitch. As I recall, that led to him popping out an enormous amount upon his call up. His success at the major league level comes from taking pitches until he gets one to hit. Hell, that’s the case with almost every successful major leaguer barring Pablo Sandoval.
  12. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 12:31 AM) Fire everybody (Exept Herm and Coop, obviously) I'd keep Kenny and Hahn too.
  13. After three poor starts in a row, Homberg got back on track tonight. 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 11:49 PM) The idea is to win the game, not play with a new toy. A rookie making a debut against Kansas City would be nervous. Against ARod,Jeter, Texiera, etc, in Yankee Stadium in a must win game is not how you break guys in. Maybe in the long run it won't hurt him, but it certainly is not going to help him or the White Sox. I honestly think Carlos Torres would be destroyed too. I think the idea should be to make the kid face adversity and see how he reacts.
  15. The Rockies DFA'd Matt Murton. I'd love to get him, he has a really nice skillset, and has been misused in a couple destinations.
  16. Why are we scared to let the kid fail? Everybody fails, it's his job to pick himseful up again afterwards. And what if he does pitch well? How pumped would we all be?
  17. Shoemaker has a great combined Double Header line. 3-6, 3 2b's 3 RBI's
  18. Yes, thank god Brandon Allen is gone. God, this team frustrates the s*** out of me.
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 11:28 PM) Nice. I mean I would hate to see Huddy up this year for the posters who aren't patient enough especially. I would love to see him don't get me wrong, but making your debut against a very patient Yankees team when you've struggled with pitch count in AAA (from jumping from AA, whose hitters aren't as patient) is not good. I don't like our chances anymore though, so I wouldn't mind seeing part of the future out there. If we were closer to first, I'd probably say Torres without a doubt. Hudson hasn't made an Major League start yet. Torres has and has proven that he is unable to throw strikes. I'll take the road less taken at this point.
  20. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 11:32 PM) Flowers just hit a walk off three run home run in the bottom of the 11th. About time. Hell of a way to get your second AAA bomb. Also, kudos to my boy Holmberg getting back on track. How much is the rest of this season going to suck when the minor league one ends?
  21. Bad News, but not fatal. Sounds like Peavy needs a couple more days. Give me Hudson over Torres please.
  22. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 07:24 PM) Who on the team is producing awesomely enough to give 5 AB per game? Bacon.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 07:17 PM) When you are fighting for your playoff lives and Jayson Nix is leading off, either your manager or GM have not lived up to their billing. in lieu of having an actual leadoff hitter I think we can afford to have the guy whose having the best AB’s of this team over the last two months getting the most AB’s out of anyone. That guy would be Beckham. I don’t like putting a major run producer in the leadoff role, but I’d be willing to run this out there. At least until Dye starts hitting then I’d switch him with AJ. Beckham Rios Quentin Thome Konerko Aj Dye Ramirez Nix
  24. Holmberg is pitching really well tonight. 5 K's through 4.
