  1. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 12:05 AM) Since when does being patient mean you can lay off an offspeed pitch that looks like a strike coming towards home plate, or that you can't be tricked by a pitcher who takes something off a pitch and get caught out in front? In fact, if anything, being overly patient is a BAD idea against Freddy because if his breaking stuff is working, the best way to get him is on his fastball which he'll use to get ahead of hitters. My god you guys make it sound like Freddy is Jose's age and has Andy Sonnanstine's stuff. I’m not sure you really understand what plate discipline is. I’m not really in the mood to explain the nuances to you so Ill put it like this. The Red Sox have it. The Royals don’t. The Royals have a team OBP of .313 The Red Sox have one of .348. The Red Sox rank 1st in the league in team walks. The Royals are 13th. See the difference? If Freddy Garcia throws bad pitches, the Red Sox have less of a propensity to swing at them then the Royals do.
  2. Brady Shoemaker went 2-4 with an RBI 2b. The kid's begging us to pay attention to him. I know i'm listening.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:44 PM) He'll be lucky to last 2 innings at Fenway. Especially, because Boston takes pitches. The Royals swung at a lot of crap tonight, Boston will be a lot more patient then that.
  4. Ozzie just said that he was satsified by what Freddy gave tonight. Looks like he could start again. Against Boston. Oh, god.
  5. We're not out of this until the math says we are. I'm not packing it in.
  6. Nice move by Jeff Cox to send TCQ on a shallow Bloomquist.
  7. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:17 PM) Am I the only one who likes Pena? I liked Brandon Allen quite a bit more.
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) At the end of last year Garcia pitched decent. What we stand to gain with Hudson doing well, is offset by what we stand to lose if Hudson gets decimated. I can remember in 2003 when the then flavor of the month pitcher Neal Cotts was brought up during the stretch run. I can remember him going to Yankee stadium, .1 IP, 5 er, 4bb. He has only started 1 game after that in his career. His stats in 2003 in AA prior to call up, 2.16 era, 21gs, 108.1 ip, 67hits, 26er, 2hr, 56bb, 133k. Hudson has 56ip in AA, just saying. I disagree. If Hudson gets his ass kicked he can try again next year. If Garcia screws up, he can probably just retire.
  9. What the hell was that Pods? Nice inning from Jeff Cox
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) Has Meche looked this bad the entire game? He's been hanging most of his pitches.
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:07 PM) Id rather have a guy like Freddy who has pitched in big games and come through, than a completely unproven rookie making his first career mlb starts in a stretch run. Sure the rookie could come out and be lights out, its just not my preference. We stand to benefit a lot more from Dan Hudson having success at the major league level, than we do Fat Freddy.
  12. We should not have sent him. Bloomquist came in way too much.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) Just got home. How did Garcia look? His stuff came in and out; he had sustained velocity, but not really looking like a worthy candidate to start again.
  14. Anyone remember when we had the lead? Those were good times...
