  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Lets see what happens in the next 5 years before we declare another guys mechanics revolutionary Can’t argue that he’s off to a good start, eh? Regardless, I doubt any arm slot is perfect. There’s nothing you can do to completely surmount the unnatural quality of throwing a baseball.
  3. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) ^ yikes Incredibly stupid offense, worst defense in the majors, etc. I find the Sox to be unwatchable, but I still tune in because I'm a glutton for punishment. I don't remember people being this delusional on soxtalk. I'd say that 75 to 78 wins is about right. I think it's perfectly logical for fans of a team that plays in the AL Central to conclude that their team should be competitive for the entirety of the year. I think it's deluded to call people names for making a logical assumption based on the competiveness of a weak division.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) I'd argue that Prior was overhyped and overpaid. Any decent scout would have noticed his f***ed up mechanics and told the GM to pass on him. His numbers in college were sensational. The hype was justified; the problem was that there was a huge misconception about just how “perfect” his mechanics were. I don’t think anyone can deny that he did experience significant success at the major league level when he was healthy. He was a good pitcher, a really good pitcher, but his fatal flaw was his arm slot, and the pressure his delivery exerted on his shoulder. A guy like Lincecum has developed a method that allows him to deliver the ball over-the top with minimal stress, Prior used his stress to increase velocity, which increased wear and tear.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) How'd those guys work out? Prior did have four above-average seasons for a starting pitcher. He led his team into the platoffs twice, Pitching well in three starts in the postseason. Obviously, he didn't work out quite to anyone's expectations. I would, howver, argue the point that he was a massive bust.
  6. I think Ozzie continues to misuse a lot of his assets on offense. Ideally, with the sluggers we have in our lineup our team SHOULD be centered on the homerun or the extra-base hit. Bunting, realistically, should have no place on this team. We also seem to run ourselves out of a lot of innings.
  7. Should be a fun matchup between two of the smartest pitchers in the league. I like Bannister quite a bit, not as a major league pitcher, but as a student of the game.
  8. On the other hand, I hate sleeping. I just feel like there is so much more I could be doing while I’m awake, also, I have a slightly irrational fear of not being in control of my own body for long periods of times. It started when I was younger, and kind of carried over. I get a good six-seven hours a night nowadays.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) Hitting .201 with a .606 OPS certainly mustn't have helped his cause. Ever since 2006 the wheels have really just come off in his career. He got moved around a fair bit by the team. He's had a difficult time making adjustments.
  10. Chris Getz confuses me. He’s got great instance to his right, but some balls just befuddle him. I imagine his range must be above average, but statistics seem to paint a slightly different picture. Jayson Nix is also interesting to behold. He’s get a bad rap here, because he’s made some glaring mistakes in the field. He fails to get the credit he deserves however, because he makes the majority of tough plays look so easy, that people rarely notice the inherent difficulty he had in getting to some of those balls. I’d put him as the second best defender on the team, behind Rios. Rios has fantastic flight path recognition for balls hit in the outfield.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 11:52 PM) You could bet your life that he has been put through waivers already. It’s likely. I’d be willing to bet 25% percent of most MLB rosters have at least a cursory pass through waivers.
  12. If Jim Thome goes on the DL, Fields is the logical guy to call back up. Ideally, his performance will continue to be good enough to justify such a call-up.
  13. QUOTE (picktoclick @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) Wise is on the roster because of his defense, period. Wise is on the roster, because Ozzie irrationally LOVES Dewayne Wise. Period and FIXED.
  14. Jared Mitchell went 1-5 with an RBI double. Josh Kroeger 3-4 with a bomb. Josh Fields 2-4 with a double.
  15. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) LOL. I'm sorry but that is just hilarious. Not as early as hilarious as you acting like Nix and Rios stole your most cherished childhood possession, every time ANYTHING happens to ANYONE on this team.
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) If Thome is out, I hope we keep DHing Pods. I'd rather play Kotsay at 1st, and DH Konerko.
  17. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) "My" guy was the only f***ing reason we scored 2 runs today. Though I guess losing 1-0 would be better than losing 3-2 and having a chance to win in your mind. The A's don't score two of these runs if "your" guy could take a proper route to a flyball.
  18. There's a key? Can we give Bobby one, or can we lock him out of the house?
  19. Scotty Pods is getting a lot of playing time for a guy who should be a 4th OF on this team.
  20. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) Are you kidding?!?! He's the reason we aren't being f***ing shutout right now. He's also the reason we're tied. Yay?
  21. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) The Sox have a favorable matchup with Pods and then Beckham. No steals for me. Yep, i wouldn't of stolen either. Dirty play by Crosby. s***ty AB by Pods
