QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) Wow the Twins pitching is atrocious. The wheels really appear to be coming off for them.

Brief piece about Fister from USS Mariner. "Today, however, it turns out that Fister is being brought up anyway, with Vargas being optioned to Tacoma. Fister, a 7th-round pick in 2006, is tall but relies more on good command (just 11 walks this year) than velocity. As a righthanded groundball pitcher instead of a flyball lefty, he’s basically the opposite of the guys currently filling out the rotation. Nevertheless, he’ll likely have a similar career as a back-end starter or long reliever, although we don’t know yet in which capacity he’s to be used in the immediate future." http://ussmariner.com/2009/08/07/fister-replaces-vargas/

I actually lurked for a couple years. Not like a creeper, but like the friendly neighbor you've never met and don't know is watching you.

Wow, that Wilmington team has some nice players on it. Montgomery is a nice arm, and Hosmer and Moustakas can flat-out hit.

Fields playing worse in Minors than in the Majors
ThunderBolt replied to DaTank's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Wait, we’re done with Fields after NINE GAMES? What is this, fun with sample sizes? -
Does Wise have dirt on Ozzie or Kenny?
ThunderBolt replied to son of a rude's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Now, that Scotty Pods is officially are pseudo-4th OF, Wise has no place on this team. Kotsay stays, because he can play 1st. we have no need for a 5th of, who can’t hit. Wise will be swapped for Nunez before Friday. Well... he better be. -
Fangraphs thinks it's a steal for us. "White Sox center fielders have been the definition of replacement level with their combined .269 wOBA, so Rios probably adds a full win to the White Sox down the stretch, increasing their odds of making the playoffs while not costing them a prospect. The South Siders have roughly $35 million coming off the books this fall, so Williams has done his holiday shopping early with the additions of Peavy and Rios, while helping his chances now. There’s some gambling going on here taking on these large contracts, but Rios is a much safer bet than Peavy. " http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/white-sox-stea-rios

Name a state that the US could do without

New Jersey. THREAD. -
I think the majority of us are in a poor mood. Probably, a bad time for a “happy stories” thread. Don’t worry though; this place’ll lighten up when Rios gets in.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 01:34 AM) Wise is the luckiest man alive. I expect Wise will be DFA’d tomorrow. We’ll be seeing Nunez back with the club when Rios gets here. -

QUOTE (SockMe @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 01:22 AM) hopefully Beckham gets out of his little funk He didn't look bad tonight. Got a hit, drew a walk, and scored a run, didn't he? -
QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 01:06 AM) You really need to stop this. The Dash doesn't have anyone else ready to step up. Johnnie Lowe got an in-season promotion with an ERA above 4. McCulloch can help the Barons and that team has been raided already. Really? McCulloch’s been producing middling, mediocre results in Birmingham for two and a half years now. He’s nearly 25 years old. He clearly has very little chance at a big league future, but retains a limited amount of value because he was a former 1st round pick. That’s sounds like someone who would be best served in AAA to me. We have Anthony Carter and Jacob Rasner in Winston-Salem, they haven’t been lighting it up, but a promotion for each of them isn’t out of the question. They stand to offer this organization much more then McCulloch ever will if developed correctly. The coaching staff at Birmingham would best nurture this talent. Oh, and the last thing we should worry about is whether we win the AA championship. I’m concerned with developing major league talent, not minor league trophies.

Why can't we ever capitalize? Detroit loses and what do we do? We lose too. That's not progress, that's mediocrity. -

QUOTE (CQMVP @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 12:51 AM) Remember when our big bats were clutch late in games? Man....2005 was such a long time ago. That story’s a lot nicer to look back on when you already know the ending. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 12:20 AM) And who do you think Ozzie will lead off? I hate to say it, but Pods will probably play way too much the rest of the way and Quentin/Thome will sit more just cause Ozzie wants a prototypical leadoff htiter. Getz, Rios or Beckham. Of the three, i'd prefer Getz. -
