  1. He STILL GAWN. "Any changes won't include Bartolo Colon, whom Williams hasn't seen nor heard since he went on the disabled list on July 25. "We’re covered," Williams said. "Let me know if you find him (Colon)." http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....er-process.html
  2. I'm suprised Williams never caught on with a team, with the stuff he has.
  3. This is not a denial. ""I’m not confirming or denying any interest or any claims or any thing, but if these things get out on a daily basis, boy, it’s going to be a heck of an August around here in terms of how many players you claim and how many you don’t claim," Williams said. "It will make your head spin if you follow each report. “A lot of players getting claimed every day. Why is this a big deal?” http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....er-process.html
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 08:29 PM) I missed the first few innings and the discussion on here....why is Wise playing instead of Kotsay? Because our manager is Ozzie Guillen.
  5. After seeing Torre’s utter inability to throw strikes in his 1st start, I can’t say I’m completely surprised by what happened today. I am, however, both surprised and disappointed to see the White Sox up to their old tricks. Playing down to the competition.
  6. I hope he keeps his s*** together, but he's walking a very fine line.
  7. QUOTE (rudylaw @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) Pods 8 Beckham 5 Thome dh PK 3 AJ 2 CQ 7 Getz 4 Ramirez 6 Wise 9 Mark Kotsay better be hurt or birthing a baby somewhere.
  8. Peavy's starting in the minors next week? This is great.
  9. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) Nope, former Barons catcher Eric Hollis is the batting coach. Their announcer told me Olmedo Saenz is not a coach with the team at all. See, this is why we shouldn't trust MILB.com
  10. Look out for Jose Vargas (1b), Kevin Dubler ©, Nicholas Ciolli (Of), Kyle Colligan (CF), Ryan Buch(p), and Justin Collop (p). Also, the hitting coach is former MLB pinch-hitter Olmedo Saenz
  11. Earl Weaver just rolled over in whatever he was laying down in. A hammock, perhaps?
  12. I look forward to the inevitable Scott Podsednik backlash that’s bound to occur if this move is made. I love Scotty Pods, but ultimately his defense in CF is bad enough to warrant him being replaced, by the superior all-around player that is Alexis Rios.
  13. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 03:31 AM) Does Homberg have any upside? If so what is his project AA/AAA timeframe? 2012? Holmberg has a lot of upside. He had a nice selection of pitches, and a pretty profound High School pedigree. I’d mark as a potential #3-#4 starter, assuming he can pick up his strikeout rate. He’s very young, so his ETA is up in the air, but given the aggressive timetable of Buddy Bell’s system 2012 is a fairly realistic possibility.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) Retardi's a terrible GM, and Halladay is the least of his problems (I still thing he gets quite the ransom even if he waits into next year). They've been clamoring for a rebuilding year for years now and Retardi refuses to give in. Him at the helm is my biggest concern of this deal getting done. Pretty much any GM would just dump Rios, but I don't trust Retardi to do that. He’s actually a very good talent evaluator. His weakness is his ego and his distribution of money throughout the organization. Riccardi wants to win every trade to the point, where he pisses other GM’s off with his demands, and unwillingness to make concessions.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) Ricciardi is already complaining about the leak of Rios waiver claim. http://www.thestar.com/sports/article/678271 He complained all the way through the July 31st deadline and he is already b****ing about what is happening now. I dont think he gets anything done because all he wants to do is complain JP Riccardi is an arrogant, lying; prick of a human being, but he’s also relatively good at his job. I imagine if we get Rios there’s going to be a somewhat negative impact on us, whether it is through players or financial burden.
  16. This would also be a major insurance policy on TCQ for the rest of the year.
  17. This would also mean the end of Wise. As Kotsay would continue to slot in as a backup 1b/OF.
  18. Here's Holmberg's final line from the suspended game. Might have covered this before. Bristol Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA Holmberg, D 4.0 2 0 0 2 3 0 3.78
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 11:32 PM) The only reason this is news, as opposed to the other some 100 players going through waivers, is that the Jays would be likely to flat out dump him. We have all the leverage in the world here. That’s the X-Factor here. While Riccardi is sitting a bit prettier then Kevin Towers was at the deadline, he still has a pressing need to shed payroll and fast. KW is in the catbird seat on this one.
  20. I strongly approve of this move for the White Sox. Probably not what the Twins wanted to hear.
  21. Vincente Padilla is essentially Bartolo Colon with less of a pedigree and more of an attitude.
  22. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 11:25 PM) Totally. Imagine if someone had said last year that we'd essentially make this trade: Richard + Poreda + DCarter + Russell for Peavy + Rios We won't be making that trade. Unless, we're sending straight cash (homey?) to the Jays, players will be involved our end.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 11:24 PM) 1.5 years ago the league thought highly enough of this guy for a Lincecum/Rios swap to sound fair for both sides. That one turned out to be hilarious. Nearly rivaled by the Greinke-Francouer rumors being tossed around before this year.
  24. Wow, it really looks like it's us, huh? I won't have many direct thoughts until any move is agreed upon, and a package is put on the table, but i have trust in KW. Regardless, it looks like their will be more cost cutting measures in the following year to come for this team, if Rios is added to it.
  25. Rios is a whole lot of money. One of the worst contracts in the game. So i'm very tenative about picking him up. I wouldn't object to a package of Ely, Shelby and Harrell, with anyone of the Danks variety being off the table. This is a risk/reward type thing. Financially, the risk is HUGE.
