  1. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 11:44 PM) Ryne Sandberg is a tough manager. One hit and one run, instant hook for the starter. It’s pretty interesting how a guy who seemed like an absolute pushover of a human being as a player, became something of a hard-ass of a manager. I think divorcing his cheating hoe bag of a wife, really changed.
  2. QUOTE (The Critic @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 06:19 PM) Oh really? they're both baseball players they're both dudes they both have an E in their surnames DISPUTE THAT!!! Wow, Critic. I've been had. I’m beginning to question whether everything I've ever believed in is a lie.
  3. David Holmberg struck people out in bunches tonight for Bristol. David Holmberg’s Strikeouts! Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come. Regardless, his stuff really seems to be coming around. He’s pitching well. Bristol Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA Garcia, F 6.0 5 3 2 0 5 0 1.64 Holmberg, D 2.0 0 0 0 1 4 0 4.30 DeFoor (L, 0-2) 1.0 3 1 1 1 1 1 2.86
  4. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) Junior Williams hit a 3 run double and scored. Kannapolis up 4-0. Williams seems to hit a lot of doubles. It's interesting just to watch the box scores. He doesn't hit for solid average, usually always DH's, and seems to go 1-4 with a double every night. Also, on more relevant topics: Tyler Flowers is having another good night, as his average continues to climb in AAA.
  5. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) You know what would make me happy? Going to the Metrodome and not hearing the embarrassing comments which come out of Hawk and Soxtalk concerning the stadium. It's f***ing pathetic listening to people blaming everything on a the dome. And it irritates me watching games because our players become little women there. They believe the stories of vengeful baseball gods living in the bowels of the HHH dome, and as such, consider no lead safe and every misplay or opportunity wasted as a "here we go again" moment. Yep, the MetroDome “curse” is the same kind of scapegoat that the Cubs use to justify inadequacy every year. We make our own bed in that stadium; if we play like s*** the results are usually s***ty.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) Shouldn't Freddy be working his way UP? I think he’s just taking whatever starting spots are available throughout the organization. They want him to get his work in regardless, of level.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 07:03 PM) He is something like the 7th or 8th starter right now... Behind MB, JD, GF and JC, then Torres, Hudson, and Garcia at least. He will obviously be behind Peavy when he gets back as well. We might as well release the guy. I think KW and Ozzie are done with him. He’s something of an embarrassment to this organization.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 03:06 AM) Jesus is every prospect in the White Sox minor league system a Chuck Norris clone? Only the ones who I write an AAP for.
  9. My thoughts on Huddy being promoted are pretty much in line with everyone else’s. Hudson has an incredible upside; I have his trajectory as a solid #2-#3 starter, which could make his potential presence as our #5th starter next year all the more exciting. Gartrell too was really deserving of a promotion. That being said it’s a bit sad to see David Cook has officially stalled in the organization. It was natural to assume he wouldn’t be going anywhere given his age, but I believe his lack of promotion is the beginning of the end to his professional career in the White Sox organization.
  10. I can’t speak for everyone, but I don’t think I’ve ever been happier to be a White Sox Fan. Of course, I was euphoric in the World Series aftermath, but I’ve never been more enthusiastic for this organization’s present and future.
  11. I like Daryle Ward. Didn't have a spot on our team, maybe he’ll get some play with the Nats. Hopper was Wise with less mileage. Not disappointed by either being traded.
  12. Apparently, Barolo is missing again. Not much of a surprise. It would be equally unsurprising to see him released, suspended by the team, or traded for crap (note not Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda) in the upcoming weeks. http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2009/08...n_this_man.html
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 07:58 PM) Holmberg goin tonight for Bristol. It'll be interesting to see how he does, pending rain. Silly weather. Not even rain can stop the mighty David Holmberg. In fact, I bet Holmberg is still at the ballpark, on the mound, scoffing at the audacity of the weather. Regardless, of what happens today it is clear that the rain clouds have made an enemy for life.
  14. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 12:19 AM) I would say that this means there is a very very very very good sign that we might even see him in the MLB this year. Completely agree. There’s also now an even better chance that he gets serious consideration for the #5 spot in our rotation coming into next spring.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) You said he was going to piss his pants. You have to say this again, but about Danks. I believe John Danks and his famously poor bladder will let their performances speak for themselves.
  16. Hmmm...… anyone remember a certain someone who said something about Floyd destroying a free-swinging Angel's lineup? Neither do I. I missed the game, but am enormously please at what I'm seeing from this team. We're taking on the AL's best, and playing well.
  17. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) ...check out Jeff Francouer's rookie stats and remember how people were so ga-ga over him too... .300/.336/.549/.885 70 GP, 272 AB, 14 HR, 20 2B, 1 3B, 45 RBI, 11BB it would seem like the lack of walks and reliance on homers made this predictable, but Francoeur was hitting .300 over 70 games with a ton of doubles...doesn't that sound familiar? His career line is currently a disappointing .266/.308/.424/.732 and the power numbers have been relatively down since 06 - just 82 career homers. So what happened to Jeff Francouer? Couldn't the same thing happen to Beckham? Jeff Francouer and Gordon Beckham are radically different players, with radically different approaches at the plate. Two compare both players against each other would be absurd.
  18. Here’s a great article from Fangraphs about just how valuable Gordon Beckham has been to this team. In short, “Even with the rough start and some struggles learning third base, Beckham has been worth +1.2 wins in 53 games with the White Sox. Calling up the youngster after just two months in the minors has been one of the main reasons the White Sox are still in the AL Central race. If the White Sox fans weren’t sold on their first round pick a year ago, they are now - this kid is the real deal.” http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/b...it-like-beckham
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 12:37 AM) Thunderbolt, you know you jinxed us. Please say something negative about Floyd to negate the jinx. Thanks! Kidding, but I am superstitious about baseball and now he won't last 2 innings unless you reverse the jinx. I'll try: Floyd has no chance vs. this Angels lineup, guys who will be pissed after the walkoff loss. Floyd will be left lying in a pool of his own urine and despair when confronted by the Mighty Angels Lineup. Better?
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) It's about his image, not the nickname. I don't think he cares about the nickname, it's the fact that the media keeps asking him what that means in reference to women. My guess is his agent and he have a pretty good idea of how big he is about to get, not only in this town, but nationally. Not a good idea to be called a nickname that implies he is a womanizer. That’s a really good point, and I give you a lot of credit for bringing that to my attention. I’m not slavishly devoted to the Slayer thing anyway; I’m more concerned about him not liking the Bacon name.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) Yeah, we should stop calling him that....he clearly does not care for the name. This poses a difficult question. Should people be allowed to choose their own nicknames?
  22. QUOTE (False Alarm @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 12:08 AM) heh. BA. Skepticism? About White Sox prospects? Never. Seriously, Huddy could pitch 48 no hitters in a row, Flowers could hit for the cycle for a solid month, and Mitchell could go 40-40, and we'd still be a middling organization to a lot of the prospects buffs minds. We have a reputation that unfortunately precedes us when it comes to prospects. It's Buddy Bell's job to chance that. Right now he's doing a fantastic job.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 11:53 PM) People weren't so much pissed Pods was on the team so much as they were pissed that we had to pull a desperation move in the first place. Yep, things were looking really down at that point. The majority of us were pissed that we went into the season with BA, Owens and Wise as our only options, and were supposed to be surprised when all 3 players failed.
  24. Looks like Dex took notes on Poreda's outing.
  25. I think DJ just worked himself out of the 5th starter consideration. He did great today though.
