  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 08:32 PM) It's not useless. And you don't really need a stat to figure out that Mark Kotsay is not really good at baseball. Yeah, the eye test works just fine on this one.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:08 AM) No matter what BABIP says, I don't buy that Swisher was unlucky in 2008, and I don't buy that Kotsay is unlucky now. Weak popups to the 2b and weak groundouts to the 2b sometimes don't just happen by chance. A guy can have a terrible approach at the plate, be out of shape or old, and get the exact same results of a low BABIP. Swisher stank in 2008 and it wasn't bad luck that he kept popping out, and Kotsay isn't unlucky to keep grounding out. Anyone who bothered to look at those kinds of stats, coupled with Swish’s statistical trends could tell you that 2008 was a fluke. Trying to write him off because he K’d and popped out, is the same kind of shortsighted logic that says that Thome clogs the bases. The fact is that Swish walked and hit for power from both sides of the plate. Thus, striking out comes with the territory. It’s just a damn shame that Ozzie didn’t take to him, like he’s taken to Mark Kotsay.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) BTW, before today's game we led all of MLB in CS with 48. Next highest at 36. That's a lot of outs to give up. This is a pretty interesting article on Ozzie Ball. According to this, it's costing us more then it's helping us. http://palehosepariah.wordpress.com/2010/0...g-into-trouble/
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) Was I the only one who watched Bobby Jenks his first 3 years in the big leagues? He always, always, always used the curveball as his out pitch. He'd get ahead, get 2 strikes on the hitter, and everyone knew the hook was coming...no one could hit it though since they still had the fastball to protect against. You're exactly right . 2005 Bobby was really the only version that was fastball dominant. From 2006 on he used the hammer curve to finish people off.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) This scenario is the exact opposite of what happens. The only way Ozzie's job was going to be in jeopardy this year was if the team continued on their trend from the first 2 months. I know. Any hope that Ozzie will take any fall for his decision to sacrifice the Designated Hitter position in favor of a strong, “clubhouse presence” is in vain. It’s just that as a Weaver Ball/Sabermetrics kind of guy, Ozzie makes me shake my head.
  6. Ozzie is going to live and die with Mark Kotsay. I hope that he and Kenny have reached an understanding and that if the White Sox don't advance deep into the playoffs, then Ozzie's removal is an option. This team continues to win in spite of Ozzie make a massacre of baseball common sense, this isn't going to last forever.
  7. There's nothing better then coming home from work to find out the White Sox have already won.
  8. They call the man "Big Game Gavin" for a reason. I hope the dominance continues.
  9. Decent article from Beyond the Boxscore about the worst hitters in baseball. Guess who makes a cameo? "- Wait, these guys are designated hitters? Coming into the season, Toronto's Adam Lind (minus-1.1 WAR) was considered one of the game's better DH's, while Chicago's Mark Kotsay (minus-0.9 WAR) was undoubtedly one of the worst in the game. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two from looking at their numbers, though, as they have nearly identical weighted on-base averages this season. Lind's .219/.279/.378 line is bad, but especially for a designated hitter where the offensive expectations are much higher. Kotsay's .217/.300/.345 line isn't much different, except with more walks and less power. Basically, you're looking at two primary designated hitters that are hitting like Triple-A shortstops." http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2010/8/2/...-in-baseball-an
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) yes we do. Premature threadulation by thunderbolt Damn, there's one more game. Huh? Well, s***.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) constantly injured? INTENSE?
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 10:05 PM) I like our trade dead line pickup more than Minnesota's. I love how Mark Kotsay is a member of the Impeach Mark Kotsay Movement. He might want to get his priorities in order.
  13. I really hope tonight was the start of a beautiful friendship. Coop's advice and Jackson's arm could be an awesome combo.
  14. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) Gavin makes some awkward faces He's an awkward dude.
  15. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) From ESPN I'm feeling sick to my stomach Sutcliffe says that Kotsay controls the clubhouse. I imagine that means he has blackmail on all of them.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) The Tampa announcers are praising Jason Repko the same way that Hawk used to praise Randy Ruiz "Ah'll tell ya what, Stone Poney. That Randy Ruiz hits the ball with authority. That boy steps up to the plate, gets in the box, and is ready to hit. Day in and Day out." IN JAPAN.
