  1. Rosenthal thinks we have legit interest in Sherill. Mentions Fields going in a deal. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9866498...day%27s-edition
  2. It pains me to say, but this team appears to be rapidly reaching its expiration date.
  3. I hope we're prepared to work this pitcher. He doesn't throw a lot of strikes.
  4. About an hour ago the rumored haul for the Pirates was Jesus Guzman, Kevin Frandsen and John Bowker. They went from getting that to one of the best pitching prospects in ALL of baseball. This is an absolute steal.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:21 PM) WTF? Sanchez for Alderson? Has Alderson been grossly overrated by, I don't know, everybody? Look at Sabean's trading history. This is yet another case of him being outsmarted.
  6. I don’t want to seem like I’m backtracking, B) but I’ll concede that you all made some very legitimate points. At the end of the day the Phillies put themselves in a position to win RIGHT NOW, and I can’t see a problem with that. Plus, not giving up Drabek is big.
  7. I’m back to being fully committed to the idea that Brian Sabean is a moron. Fields for Linceum, anyone? But seriously I’d consider going for Madison Baumgarner (in a non-Fields specific trade) at this point.
  8. Freddy Sanchez was just traded to the Giants for Tim Alderson. My initial reaction is that this is a major coup for the Pirates. Sanchez has value, but much of it's inflated by his ability to hit for a high average. Alderson is a hell of a pitcher too.
  9. QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) From Gonzales; Ozzie doesn't like the fact Colon let them know about the sore elbow SO late. Yep, Cowley said the same thing. They're really angry with colon.
  10. QUOTE (joeynach @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) Is there something wrong with Thome, nothing has been said but he is out of the lineup 3 games in a row now. Seems kind of odd considering nothing has been said or mentioned. He has a sore back.
  11. I hope (barring a trade) that CR will be in the rotation for the rest of the year.
  12. Didn't Kotsay hit an inside the park homer in the Dome back in 2006? I believe it was in the playoffs with the A's. So, glad to see that Beckham will be getting (at least!) an extra AB per game!
  13. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) Besides any more arms we can sign, I would like to see Tyler Williams get signed as well, the 3b out of AZ. Nothing known about him, but having any and all 3Bs signed in the org would help. I know we have Viciedo and Morel, but just to add depth, is all. I believe Tyler is another one of KW's kids.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) Probably a good thing then that this move had absolutely nothing to do with winning the division. I think the playoffs are too big of a crapshoot to just assume that getting a top pitcher is going to clinch you a trip to the World Series. The way I see it is that the Phillies gave up a decent haul for a piece that will help them slightly, but offer no significant upgrade for the rest of the year. On paper the Phillies would look good going into a series against the Giants, however, if paper stood for anything then the Yankees would win it ever year. Looking at this deal In the long-term it does make sense, and stands to benefit both sides.
  15. I like the majority of the moves the Pirates have made this year. They’ve got a bright future ahead of them.
  16. The Phillies got robbed blind on this one. Ultimately, I’d say it adds about to 2-4 wins this year in a division they were almost assured to win without making a move.
  17. QUOTE (joeynach @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 01:32 AM) Ive said it a million times...Josh has proven over and over again he cant play at the major league level, he doesn't belong here. His defense is poor and he cant cover a major league fastball. See ya. 2007 must have been a really rough year for you.
  18. You know what's depressing when you put it in perspective? In the course of a single day, we exiled two former 1st rounds picks off the roster, so we could keep a 30-year old journeyman OF with all the future-potential of a blind-mans' basketball career after suffering a broken wrist. .
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 12:55 AM) He's like a good version of Josh Fields. Not a bad comparison, Bear Sox. Nice.
  20. I wouldn't mind getting Wladamir Balentin. I don't think he's worth Fields though.
  21. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 12:52 AM) What aging vet has been DFA'd in the last week. Thats my bet. David Delucci? shudder
  22. Having Wise get this many AB’s for a team that’s supposed to contend is one of the more egregious mistakes in White Sox history.
  23. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 12:46 AM) I would highly doubt it. However, something like Angel Villalona and maybe a lower level prospect is more realistic. Nah, Villanova is really their only corner guy. They have a couple of mid-tier pitchers behind Alderson and Baumgarner who i could see going. They also have toolsy middle infielders in bulk.
