  1. BA was 2-4 with a bomb.
  2. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) Before tonights game Wise was hitting .182 with a .182 OBP over his last 7 games. He caught the ball, lets get him more ABs. Sounds like an Ozzie kind of move.
  3. Wait, we don't like Dewayne Wise anymore? I'm just going to file that one under "saw that coming."
  4. Dan Haren is a special pitcher, but we need to toe the line between going all in and being a bit cautious. We have a lot of tradable assets, and while it’s important to not fall too in love with any prospect, a package of great magnitude could do more harm then good for us.
  5. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) I hope this doesn't reignite the Beane worshiping again. And let me be clear, the last statement doesn't apply to everyone who admits he's a good general manager, but those who had anointed him as a God nearly 7-8 years ago and made life hell for everyone during their great years. If there's anything I've LOVED about Oakland embarrassing themselves these last several seasons its all the insufferable Beane slurping that I haven't had to read about. The man's name alone is irritating. BEANE. He is invincible, because if the team struggles its "what do you expect him to do with a low payroll," and when he succeeds its "look what he has done with a low payroll!" Also, everyone is complimenting Beane; what about Mozeliak? I'm willing to believe he knows what he has in his former, fat ass prospect drafted only one year ago who's stuck behind Pujols. And when you're in the position of the Cardinals, with World Series aspirations, you can afford to give up obese prospects. Billy Beane has a proven track record of making deals that are both fiscally smart, and logical over the long-term. He makes mistakes, but ultimately, seems to know exactly what he’s doing and is more at adept at making a plan for his organization and carrying it out. It’s somewhat sad how novel the concept of deriding Billy Beane has become since Moneyball was released. No one ever said he was infallible, but Is he damn good at his job? Honestly, yes.
  6. Bit of an understatement, but we kinda need to win this game.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 06:03 PM) Can we just stop talking about him and pretend he was never in our organization? Never underestimate the power of denial. Wait, who are we talking about again.
  8. How does Billy Beane do it? With style. The A’s are going to be ridiculous if at least a third of their prospects pan out. It’s been a while since they had a great offensive core to go along with a solid pitching one.
  9. If anybody wants some late night entertainment I suggest they go over to DRAYSBAY and read some of the game thread from earlier today. It’s gets pretty entertaining near the end.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 12:42 AM) http://www.thefightins.com/meechone/the-ph...s-perfect-game/ Link to the Phils watching the Wise catch That's actually really cool. The Phillies have one of the better clubhouses in the league . Some great personalites with a nice love for the game. Anyone else hear someone shout"Dewayne Wise Motherf***er!" about 15 second into the clip?
  11. Good find, Heads. "All told, Kazanas has signed about a dozen players who've made it to the big leagues. The list includes White Sox outfielder Brian Anderson, Texas pitcher Brandon McCarthy and former White Sox pitcher Dan Wright." You win some, you lose some. No doubt all of these plays had/have some great potential.
  12. David made his 1st professional start tonight, and pitched well. Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA Holmberg, D 4.0 2 1 1 0 2 1 4.97 Hopefully, he’ll find a permanent place in the rotation, and start getting thinks on track.
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 11:43 PM) Pods would've attempted to do the same thing, probably unsuccessfully. I expect a fall or an ill-conceived dive may have been involved too.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 11:40 PM) Fair enough, thunderbolt. We are different kind of posters/fans. Difference of opinion. I prefer to copy Hawk who said it was one of the greatest catches he's seen in 50 years of baseball and leave it at that for at least one day. Hawk didn't add a comment, 'And that helps make up for the lousy year Wise has had to this point." It just seems some excellent moments should stand on their own with no qualifiers. To me it's like you give him is due, then "Yeah, but ..." I'll stop now. I completely understand and respect that. Wise did something that we’re all going to remember for the rest of our lives. Honestly, I can get pretty stubborn about these things, but I’ll just put it out their. From this day forward there’s always going to be a time when I can think of D-Wheezey and have something to smile about. I’m pretty thankful for that.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 11:31 PM) I loved the hug. Mark B hugging Wise. Precious moment in Sox lore. Thunderbolt, are you this harsh in real life as well or just message board land? I ask all sane people to study your comment above. It's a crazy sentiment to me. You say you always will remember the moment, it'll be etched in your mind forever, yet I still sense some negativitity toward Wise.? I'm a bit suprised we're doing this here. I know what Wise did today was extraordinary, but it doesn't change much outside of today. I'm not being harsh, I'm being realistic. Anyone remember yesterday? Dewayne Wise wasn't very good at baseball yesterday… what about today? He made an incredible catch, I've given him his due, doesn't mean I have to give him my full unconditional support. I love this team, but their have been too many times when I have seen Wise have at-bats that have been to this teams detriment. I acknowledge that we all the reason in the world to be so damn proud of him today (and i am), but it won't change yesterday, and it won't change tomorrow. There’s no tabula rasa. Not for me anyway.
  16. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 11:21 PM) He has attempted seven bunts while reaching one time in 36 games. Damn you and your research, Qwerty ! Can't you let a massive generalization go unnoted ?
  17. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 10:46 PM) So at what point is it too late to bunt in a game to break up a no-hitter or a perfect game? How many runs behind would be classified as too many? Everth cabrera very recently bunted while down 8 runs with 2 outs in the 9th inning when sanchez threw hit no-hitter. This sort of this happens way more than people think. Cabrera is insanely fast, Speed is his best asset. It made sense for him to try to bunt for a hit, in fact, he seems to try it at least once per game.
  18. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 10:34 PM) Not sure if this was posted anywhere, that the Sox were scouting the LA dodgers AA team the Lookouts [among other teams like ATL, the Cubs, and Mets. Could be the Sox looking to deal a bullpen arm [Dotel?]. Who on their AA team would be of interest for the sox? http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2009/07/23/groundw...o-get-pitchers/ The LF for the Lookouts, Andrew Lambo is a hell of a ball player. Pretty swing, nice pop. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=518911
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 10:31 PM) Seriously...Mark Buehrle pitched a freaking perfect game. Wow. The more I watch that Dewayne Wise catch. I mean… can you imagine if he’s of dropped that? He’s been playing this game for years, the adrenaline he must have been facing, it would have been too easy tomiss that ball, to bobble it the wrong way, absolutely amazing. Thank you, Mr. Wise
  20. Caught this while going through Buehrle Coverage. Fregosi was at this game too "Jim Fregosi played 18 seasons in the big leagues as an infielder with the Angels, Mets, Rangers and Pirates. He either played or was on the bench for five no-hitters, three thrown by teammates (Clyde Wright, Jim Busby and Jim Colborn) and two thrown against his team (Earl Wilson and Bill Stoneman). Fregosi, now a special assignment scout for the Atlanta Braves, was in the stands Thursday at Chicago’s U.S. Cellular Field. No, he said, he can’t imagine a better play has ever been made in a perfect game. “You know why?” he said, laughing. “Because he caught it twice" http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Akcn...o&type=lgns
  21. This must have taken a lot of Parque, and i respect him for doing this.
  22. I value AA (and the player within) a lot more than AAA. The fact that we have a 28 year old guy whose proven what he has to prove, and a 1st round bust (McCulloch) toiling down there with no signs of improvement or progression frustrates me. To me they constitute, what is effectively a waste of space and time for both the players and the organization. What exactly is the goal of the organization here? There are a lot of promising prospects who have earned promotions, who could soon find their development impeded by two guys who appear not to be in the team’s future plans.
  23. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 09:33 PM) Amen. That's all anyone is saying today. We're all loving his catch. That's all. Sorry, I get both the fire and the passion when it comes to D-Wheezey. Hell of a day though, eh?
