  1. The Snell idea is pretty good, I’d never completely rule out the Homer Bailey talks resuming (only with the Reds getting a different return then Dye, basically, any team who needs bullpen help is probably open to talks, i'm sure KW is well aware of this.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 02:08 AM) A series against the Nationals prove nothing, I'm not saying they're not going to be good in the 2nd half, but beating the Natinonals 3 out of 4 or a sweep does nothing to impress me With Lee and Ramirez hitting, the Brewers and Cardinals don't have the punch to match the Cubs.
  3. Hypothetically, if more people start using Your Love as their entrance music… Is Gordon Beckham going to have to choke a b****? http://deadspin.com/5317613/big-leaguers-j...ms-love-tonight
  4. Remember that argument we were having about Ozzie's lack of faith in Poreda? This kinda frustrates me. "Guillen intimated Poreda is barely ready for a major-league bullpen, much less a starting rotation. "Our bullpen should be set pretty good," Guillen said. "I wish I had a little more confidence in Poreda, not because he's bad, just because he's a kid. "The perfect guy in that [sixth inning Friday night] was Poreda, but I didn't feel comfortable putting that kid in that situation with the game on the line." So why is Poreda in the bullpen if Guillen doesn't have complete confidence? "We don't really have a choice right now," he said. "I will use him, but I'm not going to put him in a game that's on the line [like Friday's]. I don't have the guts to do it. "Can he pitch in the big leagues? Yes, he can. Does he have to be better? Of course, he has to be better. We have to teach this kid to pitch in the big leagues, but meanwhile, we have to win." http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2976928.story It makes some sense; ideally you’d like to ease the kid into his role in the big leagues. However, he’s your number one pitching prospect, he’s experiencing success every time you put him out there , and is capable of pitching multiple innings as evidenced by his success in the minor leagues as a starter. What exactly makes Ozzie think Poreda doesn’t deserve a shot to be thrown into the fire? Is it the same kind of thinking that makes Ozzie think Dewayne Wise deserves a spot on this team? By no means do I find the Poreda usage as egregious as what’s going on with Wheezy, but I do find his mentality disturbing.
  5. The Dan Hudson Box score experience continues to bring a huge smile to my face, I also wish "my boy" Holmberg would make the Bristol rotation. I think putting him in the pen severely limits his ability to throw all of his pitches and establish command.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:52 PM) Rick Morrissey, there is something wrong with your head Alexei and JOHN Danks for Halladay? Forget that noise All of these packages that have been suggested by the beat writers are not only illogical and poor, but would compromise one of the most grievous mistakes our organization could ever make. You can justify trading our future for 1.5 years of an aging, albeit great pitcher. But you certainly don't trade our present for the guy. You don't win a trade when what you give up negates the return.
  7. Halladay doesn't push the Brewers over the top. Their back end of the rotation remains really shaky, while the Cubs appear to be finding some footing. Ideally, they solidify the catching spot and work on finding cheaper options for their rotation.

    Films Thread

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 07:20 PM) I wasn't a big fan of the 6th one. I've enjoyed all of the HP movies but this one just didn't do it for me. I enjoyed it but it wasn't on par with the prior movies and seemed much more like a placeholder movie (to get them to the final two movies). Just not that much action, funny scenes, or cool effects and usually HP movies are loaded with all of them. The director had a weird motif with staircases too, but it was a stunningly beautiful film to watch, the performances were pretty solid, and I thought the script was fairly decent for what the book offered.
  9. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) On Baseball Tonight, they're trying to say that Derek Jeter isn't a bad defensive shortstop. It’s okay, NBC just told me that they’d cured cancer.
  10. Wow, one of the pitchers for the Danville Braves is a Uconn kid who I had the chance to broadcast, my eyes told me he was awful, as do his stats.
  11. QUOTE (CSF @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 09:13 PM) Norfolk just put a 7 spot on Marquez. They now lead Charlotte 8-1. Sigh. At least we got rid of that soulless bastard Swisher! Right? Right? Right? Also, I really like what I’m seeing from Jared Mitchell.
  12. Beckham is arguably our best hitter, right now. Amazing from a guy who has scouts on his ass the minute that 0-20 was his primary offensive statistic.
  13. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) He's not a great GM by any means, despite having learned the craft from Beane. He's an absolute bastard, but he's sharp. It takes a lot to field a consistent 80 win team in that division.
  14. Thank god. A win's a win, but God, do i hate the Greek.
  15. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 06:27 PM) flashing back to a cold and dreary day in 08... Also, last week VS the Twins.
  16. Whoa, Matty T got the out? Thank god, my connection crashed about twenty minutes ago, and i was freaking the hell out.
  17. QUOTE (onedude @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:47 PM) Buehrle has a really sick curve today I'd say the curve has been his best pitch this year. It's interesting that along with Danks (whose change is insane) each pitcher has worked to improve their secondary stuff, despite obvious success the year prior.
  18. Hah, Gordon Beckham laughs at you Matt Wieters! Laughs! MUWAHAHHAHHAHA!
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) But.. But... I thought it was amazing what a bunt can do? I think there needs to be a certain amount of trust that a professional hitter can move a runner over via a hit, a walk, or putting the ball in play.
  20. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:41 PM) Bunting is puzzling. Swing the bat. Fixed.
  21. I really hope Wise has some other skills to fall back on. Otherwise, retirement is going to hit him hard.
