  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 02:02 AM) Why would we trade for a slightly less bad version of Fields? Wood has the same problems as Fields, he can't hit a major league fastball. Josh Fields have three times as many plate appearances as Brandon Wood at the big league level. He also doesn't have nearly as much pop or the ability to field two premiere positions like SS and 3b.
  2. Nothing gives me more happiness then some "SWEET TWEETS!!!!"
  3. Did anyone see the video of Barbara Boxer cutting off a Brigadier General who called her "ma'am" at an EPW hearing yesterday? She demanded that he call her Senator. Thank god we have women like that in charge who see it as their job to publicly embarrass those who fight for our country.
  4. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 11:25 PM) Where would we play Wood? Our IF is set if we keep Viciedo at 3B: 3rd. We move Beckham to 2b and make Getz a super-utility guy. When Viciedo is ready we move him (Viciedo) to a corner OF spot.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 11:24 PM) How come every time Bailey's promoted, his fastball is a good 5-6 mph slower than is being reported in the minors? He's just an overhyped prospect that might need a change of scenery, and considering how much it would cost to get him, I hope it's not in Chicago. The kid’s a head-case. Who overthrows when he hits the majors. I imagine having Dusty Baker as his coach can’t help.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 11:20 PM) It's the International League. Wes Whisler dominated that league. Homer Bailey has added a splitter to his repertoire and is now throwing 97 with his two-seamer. Also, Tyler Flowers was caught for PEDS when he was younger. He's off them and dominating the minors. Would you care to admit that maybe you're wrong about Bailey? Maybe he's figured it out?
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 11:12 PM) His stuff sucks now. 91 mph and no command of offspeed pitches. Rumors that he was using PEDs while he was in high school also (people would be shocked at how many high schoolers fall into this category). Bailey has had starts since coming back from Cincinnati, in that span Bailey's given up 3 runs in 37 1/3 innings an ERA of 0.72. He's struck out 31 in that span while only walking 8. In his last start Bailey went 8 shutout inning and struck out seven outpitching one of the better Orioles prospects, Jake Arrieta. His minor league line is now: 2009 Season Team League W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR BB SO GO/AO AVG LOU INT 7 5 2.83 13 13 2 1 0 82.2 81 32 26 9 25 74 0.95 .256 if that stuff sucks I'd like more of it.
  8. I really thought we were going to see an LSU-UNC finale. Just goes to show you that this is a crapshoot, sometimes the team with the best talent can't take you to the promise land.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 11:07 PM) If anything, considering his major league performance, he's overrated if you ask me. You'd be surprised at the number of people who've given up on him. It's not out of the question to buy low for a guy who dominates the minors, but can't get over the major league hump. It’s eerily similar to the Gavin Floyd situation.
  10. I’d like to clear room for guys like Brandon Allen, and buy young, underrated talent. Guys like Brandon Wood and Homer Bailey. I want KW to take risks, I want to get younger, I want to experience the glory of Danks, Floyd and Quentin all over again. I recognize guys like Freddy Sanchez and Chone Figgins as talents, but I’m not interested in either of them. We need to look towards the future, the future is now.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 06:32 PM) Plenty of teams have had success developing starting pitchers through the bullpen. You can even look at certain starters that had failed initially who didn't end up succeeding until after they had stints in the pen (Earvin Santana being a recent example). No, I completely agree that kids can succeed on a team through the bullpen. Buehrle being the primary example of this. The problem is that Poreda is hardly even being used.
  12. Looks like this game won't finsh for anothe 10-15 minutes that'll make it about a 3:20 minute long game. Anyone know how long these things have been averaging?
  13. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) Blast, I lost. Marrero with a bomb in his first AA at-bat. Go figure. He'll fit right in with the B-Ham Brash Brothers.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) Can I just add to this that Poreda being on the big league roster is a huge mistake now, as he needs to be in AA boosting his trade value instead of sitting on the bench. Seriously, why is he even on this team? Send him to AAA or AA and make room for him in the pen or in the rotation. Then call him up.
  15. QUOTE (HoosierSox @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 06:03 PM) Ozzie need to let Poreda pitch and Linebrink needs to be sent packing. He sucks. I would have been fine pitching Poreda in a 5-1 game. It would have been a big deal for the kid.
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) As of this moment, are we still sellers? I think so because we have the toughest schedule left. Nah, we're too close. If we ever get plus ten games back, that's when selling becomes a serious thought.
  17. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) As of today (Thursday the 18th), Omogrosso is still listed as active on the Barons roster. He's now on the AAA roster too. Probably just a website error.
  18. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) He seems to have the poise to do it. It is kind of nice to have your catcher, be your teams field leader. Do they pick captains in the minor leagues? I also like how we’re going to be putting a lot of these kids in to a playoff position. It must be very exciting to be part of the Dash, get called up a level, and know that you’re expected to contribute to one of the top two teams of the entire AA.
  19. "Linebrink has now allowed runs in 4 of his last 5 outings, including 2 losses and today's debacle. His line over that stretch looks like this: 4.1 IP, 7H, 7R, 2ER, 4BB, 4K, 3HR. He's also allowed the only inheritted runner he's had to score." http://www.southsidesox.com/
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) Because this team is going to lose 80 games a year on average and every single one elicits an extreme reaction out of folks on here blaming whichever person they feel is at fault in their own minds. Games like this happen many times a year, and the Cubs win a TON of these at home. It happens, we played well, got a split at Wrigley, move on. No doubt, but we’re all fans of this team. I don’t find it odd to be briefly crushed by a loss like this. I just find it weird that we immediately jump to the defense of the team here. What’s the defense for losing a game we absolutely should have won? I’m not even sure if there is one. All I know is that we have to go out and play another one of these things tomorrow.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 05:22 PM) We heard you, f*** Ozzie he's terrible, you're pissed. We got it. What's your rational here, Rock? Why should we be talking down what happened here today, because we're optimists? I love how the kids played today, but we lost a game we should have won. Why isn't the natural reaction disappointment?
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) Some people on here are a bunch of pansies when it comes to injuries (no offense t'bolt, you know I like your style of posting). He has a calf strain...nothing major. With 3 more games at an NL park, you can't just sit a player, as that will destroy your bench. Also, with Thome and CQ out, we need any power we can get. If we're only going to get 15 homers out of our 1st baseman this year (due to thumb), we need some people to pick up their power production. You’re right; I think we’re probably better for it if we let Dye play through this thing. I’m just a bit worried, he seems to be testing the calf out there and it’s not responding well.
  23. I’m sorry guys, but when you’re up 5-1 at Wrigley with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th, and still lose. There’s no moral victory their, for me.
  24. I think we need to consider shutting Dye down for a week. Send Wise down for Kroeger, and see what happens.
