  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 25, 2009 -> 06:24 PM) There's a difference between being a baseball player who's a good athlete, and a good athlete who plays baseball. Joey Gathright being a prime example of the first, with Justin Upton being the second.
  2. The Padres just came back from 7 down in the 8th. They're leading 9-7 in the 9th. They just don't want to lose.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 25, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) A big issue is that the Cards and Brewers can't hit either right now. The Cubs complain about injuries, but the Cards have 3 starters out in Ankiel, Ludwick, and Glaus. Weeks is a huge loss for the Brewers. Not one to defend the Cubs, but A-Ram, D-Lee, and Bradley have hardly been in the lineup. Everybody's in the same boat. (don't you ever forget!)
  4. Richard's already responded to the Peavy trade, it's Poreda's turn now.
  5. Joe Mauer was benched for rest today. The result? A pinch-hit two run bomb.
  6. Jay Bennett, former member of Wilco, who was fired during the making of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, has died at the age 0f 45. It sounds like his life went to crap after he left the band. http://blogs.suntimes.com/derogatis/2009/0..._at_age_45.html
  7. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 24, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) ...trade Jermaine Dye to Atlanta for Jeff Francoeur and a pitching prospect. I know it sounds mad, but really think about it. Atlanta's looking to get more offensive production out of their outfielders, and they are also considering trading Francoeur. Yes, he's struggled, but he is barely 25. Maybe he needs a change of scenery or more motivation or pressure to produce. There's not much of either in Atlanta. If it didn't work out, then there wouldn't be any contract constraints with Francoeur. If it did, it would be like getting another Carlos Quentin. Plus, it would put the decision about Dye's 2010 option on the Braves. Discuss... Jeff Francouer is a bad baseball player. A really bad baseball player. He's prone to mistakes at the plate, and never learns from them. He's too stubborn to ever experience prolonged success at the Major League level.
  8. It's amazing how many ignorant people can get a job and type with some semblence of authority. The White Sox's made a calculated risk to get one of the top 5 pitchers in the game. They did this knowing that they were in a bad division and were a slumping team, KW was hoping to chance this. How? Gee, i don't know, how about get Jake freaking Peavy to start with?
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 24, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) Rather then complain about Perz I would start to question the reliability of our so called stud closer You mean the closer, who we all love, but should probably trade soon while he still has value?

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 20, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) Muldoon was supposed to be the premiere big game hunter in the world too, which makes his death in the movie a little more comical with him getting trapped by the Raptors using the "focus on one while the others close in from behind" hunting method. I cant recall how he died in the book, but I think it was a little more graphic He didn't. He did, however, shoot a T-Rex with a rocket launcher. Which would have been far more badass on screen, then getting punked by a, "clever girl."
  11. Brief update. Cubs still suck
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 24, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) Speaking of Pierzynski, how much longer does he have to be our C? He doesn't do anything well anymore. Not selective at all at bat, very streaky hitter, is labeled as a good base runner but more than likely is just lucky a lot of the times, plays lazy D, has no arm, and I'm not even so sure how much of the game he actually calls (I think most of it comes from the dugout). AJ called great games for Floyd and Richard on consecutive nights. His weakenesses are his approach at the plate and his arm behind it. He's clearly an emotional catalyst to this team, but how much is that worth, i don't know. all i know is that we've got a kid in the system whose arriving in two years. I can wait.
  13. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 24, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) That's not what I heard. IIRC, the two teams never came to terms on a deal... Yep, as far as we know. The Sox and the Padres have been the only two teams to agree to terms on Peavy. Everything else was just talk with no resolution.
  14. McCulloch with another McCulloch like outing. Can we just promote him to AAA and be done with it? Birmingham Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA McCulloch (L, 4-4) 7.0 10 5 4 0 3 0 4.11
  15. Josh Fields has gotten the message: his job is on the line. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2978214.story
  16. QUOTE (beck72 @ May 24, 2009 -> 08:53 AM) It's pretty clear that Fields can't keep hitting the way he is and start for the sox. The question then becomes "who's next to play 3b"? Betemit's Uribe without the power or glove. Beckham's a long shot at best. CJ Retherford probably isn't ready either. Why not take a flyer on Mark DeRosa, who reportedly is available for "major league ready pitching"? I read this as a bullpen arm. If it takes Lance Broadway and the $4 mill left on DeRosa's contract for 2009, would the sox do it? DeRosa also can play 2b, 1b, and has even played the OF. His bat and OBP has been pretty decent over the years. If you think all it would take is Lance Broadway to get the Indians to trade Mark Derosa to one of their top rivals, you are sadly mistaken.
  17. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 23, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/baseball-rai...dance-off-24015 A rain cancellation turns into a dance off I know some of those guys from UCONN , half of them would probably be better suited to stick to dancing. Their SS though is fantastic when healthy, i'd love to see the Sox draft him late when he's eligble.
  18. This just in: The Cubs kinda suck.
  19. QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ May 23, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) Some one should of told Jose With CR starting to establish himself, it's going to get very interesting to watch what Aaron Poreda does in his next 3-4 starts. Colon seems to be living on luck, and Contreras is approaching sitiuational relief territority. We could be seeing the start of the next generation of White Sox starting pitching.
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 24, 2009 -> 12:06 AM) So I've noticed on Baseball Tonight they are starting to use "He Gawn" a lot. All i know is that if i have to hear "Fill thine horn with oil and goooo" one more time, i'm going to stab Steve Bertheume in the neck with a pencil
  21. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ May 23, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) You think Kevin Towers is watching tonight? With a bottle of jack in one hand, searching dreamily for the one that got away...
  22. The pen has only on rare occasions worked better then it has tonight, the Pirates broadcasters were in love.
  23. Just an outstanding performance by CR tonight. You can’t ask any more from a 4th starter.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) Quentin has got to stop swinging at the first pitch. He's making himself too easy of an out. It was amazing to see last night how far over towards center the RF was for the Pirates. Fields and AJ would be wise to do the same. It's not like the pitches are that good half of the time either.
