  1. I'm not the biggest Walker fan, but this is a half-assed way of going about these things. I mean Dave Duncan wasn't even a pitcher, and looks what he's doing now. Those who do, can't always teach.
  2. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ May 19, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) From last nights Mets-Dodgers game: Funny Reed looks schocked every time he makes a play. He's hitting pretty good, right now. Not enough to make anyone miss him.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ May 18, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) I really doubt Konerko would allow a trade to the Mets. Maybe if this was his walk year, but I just don't see that being a match. The Mets are realistically the third strongest team in the NL when healthy. Why wouldn't he wanna go their?
  4. The Cubs need bullpen help badly. They only have one prospect worth having (Vitters), unless you wanna gamble on Tyler Colvin. I really like what Brad Snyder is doing for them in AAA, but he's moved around a bit and is getting older.
  5. Anyone else see that sick play at home that Mauer made on Brett Gardener the other day? http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/news/articl...tent_id=4796334
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 18, 2009 -> 05:39 PM) I'm just afraid if they dump this year (which the fact that they're only 5.5 out after these 2 weeks makes me think nobody is going to run away with this division) and go young and attendance goes down, the Sox will come in with a ridiculously low payroll and point to the attendance. I actually think if we were to just punt the second half of the year and play most of the young kids, we'd been in a pretty good position for next year. Then again, if one of the kid's is lacking, all we'll hear is moaning about rushed and stunted development. The point is not bringing up the kids in a lost year to compete; it's to get them accumulated
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 05:09 PM) No no, don't trade with the Cubs. Their players are so overrated. Also, I think I might have a stroke if I see one of my favorite Sox players of all time closing out a World Series for them (no, I'm not talking about Neal Cotts). I don't know i think Vitters will be a stud, probably not for the cubs though.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2009 -> 04:44 PM) If the Giants stay in things they could be buyers for almost anything and do have a nice crop of prospects. I assume you're thinking of Bumgarner and Alderson, i imagine they'd be off the table for anything other then young positional talent. Of the Brandon Wood, Beckham type. Jonathan Sanchez, however, would be somewhat more obtainable.
  9. AJ needs to have his f***ing hands tied behind his back, so he can take a freaking pitch.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 18, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) So here is a weird question for you guys who know more about college ball than I do... I went to Iowa State, and flirted with the idea of trying to walk on there. Didn't do it. I looked into the program there a bit, and it looked like (at that time) they were pretty much the bottom of the Big 8 (now Big 12). How would I look into seeing what, if any, Iowa State players have been drafted? Made it to the majors? And does anyone know anything about the current state of the program? Sorry for the tangent. I believe you can sort by school in the draft section of baseball-reference.com
  11. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 18, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) Dye's K/BB is 34/9...not good. Sounds like Dusty Baker will love him, come june.
  12. A hard fastball and hammer curve is a money combination. Assuming he can get the curve over consistently for strikes, he seems like a late 1st rounder.
  13. this is f***ing ridiculous. why is Nix a guy who by all accounts could be a gold-glove caliber infielder playing left-f***ing field? Why is f***ing Pods not in left, when Alexei can play f***ing center, and Anderson is healthy?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) Thankfully no Lillicurse. Still, someone explain to me why Betemit is even on the roster anymore? To validate the Swisher trade.
  15. Great (but kinda sad) story about a pitcher who threw 21 shutout innings in 26 hours to help his team to the NIAA World Series. Over his coaches objections the pitcher, Bryan fuller, went out to pitch knowing that this could be his last chance to ever pitch at a competitive level. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=4171780
  16. Rich Hill, former Cubs 3rd starter, looked very sharp for the Orioles last night. I don't think their was a future for Hill in Chicago (from what i've heard) because of physical and mental issues, but i think this speaks to a failure on part of the Cubs pitching coach. Larry Rothschild is a guy who doesn't make pitchers worse, but hardly seems to make them that much better.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ May 16, 2009 -> 07:03 PM) Michael Kay doesn't bother me but the way ESPN treats him, thinking he is some great broadcaster bothers me. Like no matter if you are good, bad, or in between, as long as you are a Yankees broadcaster, you are great. They need to keep him off Sports Reporters. Trust me, the Yankee coverage out by me is absurd. He has a radio show, a column, the Yankee broadcast, and all that airtime on ESPN. Their is too much of a bad thing.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ May 17, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) Gordon Beckham has been activated, and Lee Cruz has been sent to Winston-Salem. Doubleheader at 2pm. Ely and Zaleski starting today. Excellent, Jordan Danks is their to stay. Not that their was any doubt...
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ May 16, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Was listening to the Yankees radio broadcast at work today, holy cow do they suck. They make Ed farmer sound exciting. The TV guys are even worse. Michael Kay=The Biggest blowhard on the planet.
  20. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ May 16, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) No doubt Marmol should be their closer. I'd argue that point. When he's on he's unhittable for (usually) two extremley high-leverage innings. You can't sacrifice that guy for sitiuations where his team's up three in the top of the 9th.
