  1. Wishful thinking for most Cubs fans. As, a Sox Fan I only had the thought because it's been rumored so damn much. Then again, Brian Roberts is still an Oriole so, I should probably not think that way.
  2. What's NSBB? Seriously. I don't think it's that crazy, If you were the Padres, and currently relying on a team with people like Oscar Robles and Cha Seung Baek to play key roles on your roster what can’t you gain my picking up Hill and Cedeno and working them out for a year?
  3. The Cardinals OC is magnificent, Oh yeah, and so is Larry Fitzgerald
  4. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) I don't think so. They have less of what the Padres would want or need. I don't know why people still think they're going to get Peavy. They have nothing to trade. Vitters, Olsen, Marshall, Archer, Stevens, Gaub for Peavy They also have the option of throwing in Cedeno and Hill if they're still resistant to trading Marshall.
  5. This is the set-up for the Peavy deal. It's the only reason why this and the Derosa deal were done.

QUOTE (onedude @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 03:18 AM) new X-Men Origins:Wolverine pic. I suppose I shouldn’t have such high hopes for this movie, but I really do. Then again, I’m about the only person in the world who enjoyed X-Men 3 so maybe I shouldn’t worry.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) that's giving brian some really good power numbers right there. I don't think it'd be out of the question for BA to hit 20 if given significant playing time. He's shown decent power at every level, the only thing that's ever suffered is his average and his walk rate.
  8. Just a brief update, I drove by Shea today and they appear to have torn half of it down with little fanfare. It’s more of a husk now, no seats, no real structural support by what was Left-Center field , the only thing that remains is a gigantic poster of Tom Seaver that graced the outside of the stadium, along with some of the light structures that they had by the entranceway. It’s really quite depressing that I’ve heard nothing about them actually beginning the process of tearing the damn thing down, but there it goes. As for Citi? Still looks awesome.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 17, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) Owens' '07 > anything Anderson has ever done offensively In terms of walk rate and Batting Average you're correct, however, in roughly eleven more at bats than Owens’ 2007 campaign, BA in 2006 managed 13 more Extra base hits, and seven more homeruns. Not an exponential improvement, but a minor one. Plus, given their Minor League track records I’d put BA at a better percentage at succeeding in the Cell then I would Owens.
  10. If Hamels stays healthy for the three years, the Phillies are looking at a nice bargain for one of the better pitchers in baseball.
  11. Good article on MLB.com about BA's outlook on the Owens/CF Situation http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...s&partnerId. He seems very resigned to playing second fiddle to Owens this Spring, and while he appears to be right it’s unfortunate to hear him talk like he knows he has very little to fight for.
  12. Why wouldn't we be pursuing Hudson? Injuries, money, age, Getz, Lillbridge, Nix, Beckham and Betemit. Not in that order.
  13. Mac has a history of pissing off the higher-ups so the move makes sense. That being said, while i'm more of a B & B guy, i quite enjoyed the chemistry between the Afternoon Saloon Guys and Mac was a crucial part in that.
  14. I will miss their annual $9.99 or lower C.D. Sale. I usually found at least one thing worth buying at that time.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 17, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) Chuck James would be a great reclamation project. Agreed, assuming his shoulder’s better he’s definitely a “Coop can fix him” type of guy.
  16. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jan 17, 2009 -> 01:50 AM) I'm pretty sure they waited a year before enrolling him high school to make sure he dominates all the younger kids. I don't know, the Danny Almonte precedent means he'd have to wait at least two.
  17. I'd put 55% on the Pale Hose with 45% on the Mets. Really don't see him ending up in Texas.
  18. The Cubs have gotten extremely desperate since the end of the Baker Era for their team to adopt a “winning mentality.” In their minds; they can’t waste time sending kids out there and not having immediate results. Notice that when Theriot, Hill, Fontenot and Soto were all given starting jobs they started out hot, and were immediately cemented into the lineup. Meanwhile, players like Pie, and Marshall, and Cedeno have spent years trying to get a foothold on the team, and have had Lou Piniella sour quickly upon them. This has worked out well for Marshall, because he’s found a niche (Harden’s Longman) Pie, however, has had to deal with the presence of Jacque Jones, Craig Monroe, Reed Johnson, and Jim Edmonds effectively breathing down his neck and has had no opportunity to succeed for a prolonged time at the Major League Level . BA’s case is somewhat similar (He’s had to compete with Erstad, D-Wheezey, ETC), except he was given at least half a year to perform at the MLB.
  19. I refuse to let myself believe Owens will carry that job past the first week of the season.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) What is the school of thought on Pie? Bust, or just hasn't gotten a chance? Pie's need more time at the Major League Level. The Cubs refuse to offer him this. The consensus is that Pies' approaching bust territory, but the kid's has shown some promise whenever he's given the chance. I'd be more than happy to stick him out there with BA and see what happens.
  21. Fantastic, now I can go to Best Buy and engage in their continued pursuit to rip me off.
  22. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) As would I. He's also versatile enough to where Ozzie would keep him on the roster since he could play those multiple positions. I've always wondered why we didn't bring him back. He has decent plate discipline, a good OBP, and is speedy. And one more thing, he doesn't suck like Owens. I wonder if Kenny has tried to gauge just how interested the Cubs were in getting value for their players with no options left, because we have the players to make a decent offer for Felix Pie.
  23. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) Come on, thats ridiculous. Reinsdorf isnt going to fire Pax and promote VDN to his position Agreed, it was premised on a hypothetical of making the team look somewhat good in their handling of the coaching search.. At this point, I really don’t see anyone coming out of the VDN mess clean.
  24. I see it like this: the Bears have been wildly inconsistent since the late 80's, but remain very much a top tier franchise in the minds of the majority of NFL fans, because of the Ditka/Ryan legacy... I’d say the Jordan Era has bought the Bulls at least 20 years of unaltered fan support. edit: the word tiger, while an awesome word, means little in that context.
  25. I've already mentioned my saving face and "promoting" VDN idea in the NBA thread. Needless to say it means Pax is gone.
