  1. I’ll wait for someone who knows more about basketball then I do to slap me down, but would anyone be averse to giving Memphis coach John Calipari another shot at NBA coaching? The benefits for this are two-fold for one: he has a father-son relationship with Derrick Rose and would make him far more comfortable in his transition as an NBA player, for another he runs the dribble-drive offense that we were looking for when we went after Dantoni. We might even be able to save some face by firing Paxson and "promoting" VDN to the front office.
  2. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) I'm proud to say i was not fooled when i saw the title of the thread, unlike on april fool's day where I told three people about the trade only to later find out it was april first. I'm hoping we can get Luis A Gonzalez and Alex. S Gonzalez too. Have the Mariners signed Joshua Fields yet?
  3. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 10:20 AM) Without Plaxico Burress, Eli's simply a mediocre QB. I still love seeing him him on all of the Toyota ads and a few more in the NY/NJ area though. Perfect timing. Sadly, Eli doesn't have half the charisma that his brother does.
  4. QUOTE (Felix @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) There is absolutely no way they would ever do that. Never said they would, but i'd take it. I don't credit the Angels with an abundance of brains, but yes trading their best pitching and hitting prospects for an aging RF is unlikley.
  5. Myrow's BB/K ratios are very impressive and coupled with decent pop he seems to be a good hitter. However, he's 32, 5’11 and shown absolutely nothing at the Major League Level. I imagine he'd be better served signing with a team like the Nationals or Braves. http://minors.baseball-reference.com/players.cgi?pid=10310 Kroeger was a pretty big name in the D-Backs organization, but was rapidly overtaken after a bad year and the emergence of Carlos Quentin. He’ll definitely make the starting lineup of Charlotte. Above-average arm, decent OF range, nice fluid swing, he’ll light-up Charlotte, predominantly because it lends itself to hitters like himself. http://www.baseball-reference.com/k/kroegjo01.shtml Restovich was log-jammed out of the Majors by the cadre of Twins Of’s that he came up with (Ford, Cuddyer, Ryan, ETC) He’s a lot like Kroeger, but with more speed, and a weaker arm. http://minors.baseball-reference.com/players.cgi?pid=30713.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) I mentioned this on facebook while Soxtalk was down, but the Cubs managed to give Sammy's old number 21 to Milton Bradley. The Cubs, as always, stay classy. Didn't Sosa hit his 600th homer for the Rangers off Jason Marquis when Marquis was wearing #21 for the Cubs?
  7. The Mets'll need to sign Wolf or Perez to play a decent form of catch-up. Phillies still have the top staff in the division, but there's a decent disparity between Lowe Vasquez Jurrjens Kawakami Hanson/Reyes/Morton/ETC And Santana Maine Pelfrey Redding Whomever
  8. I'd do Dye for Adenhart (if he passes the physical) and Wood. Not too hot for Figgins though
  9. I wish Danksy part 2 were here, but i'm excited to see what kind of impression Flowers, Poreda and Beckham leave on the team. The other three names of note are Myrow, Kroeger, and Restovich. Two of which (K and R)were really big prospects at one time and are both deserving of a shot at the MLB Level. Sadly this chance will not and should not come with our organization. Myrow is pretty much a more patient Brad Eldred and might have a decent shot of picking up a handful of abs if Allen isn't ready for if/when Konerko gets hurt.
  10. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) Is it me, or does Tim Tebow look like a hulked out Rex Grossman? Tebow's head is very oddly shaped, but the comparison is still valid.
  11. I’m interested in who would win between Bradley and Big Z. As I recall, Michael Barret was pretty decent in karate and still got the crap kicked out of him by Zambrano.
  12. And they say we have fourth and fifth starter problems. It looks like the Indians are just gonna toss people out their and see who sticks.
  13. I love this move for the Cubs. For one the guy’s a professional hitter who with a decent run of health (as well, as the moderately potent bat of Micah Hoffpauir backing him up) could tear the NL Central to shreds. On the other front, it’s my understanding that Hendry thinks that the clubhouse has become to complacent (this part of the justification for is regrettable Derosa and Wood decisions) if this is the case, then a dynamic personality like Bradley’s is just what the doctor ordered. Bradley doesn’t give a damn about cures, he just wants to put up his numbers and get paid. I don't agree with the money and the years (two's my limit), but i can't argue with the Cubs for wanting Bradley
  14. Great move for the price. Looking forward to see where the rest of the league'll stand with Burell and Bradley off the market
  15. With Bradley and Burrell soon to be off the market things on the Abreu front are going to speed up . I imagine we’ll be hearing quite a lot more about Bobby Abreu for the next two weeks. Still, don’t think it’s a certainty, but if we did sign him it might force the Reds hand.
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 1, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) Sure, why the hell not? This offseason couldn't possibly suck any worse than it already has, so this can't hurt. Yes, it could. We could be Cubs fans. We lost expendable pieces. They lost two of their once most promising pitching prospects (Ceda, Veal), missed out on the “big fish” (Peavy) and traded away their two clubhouse leaders (Derosa, Wood) Meanwhile, the White Sox got younger and not necessarily worse. Hell, I guess I’m just an optimist Also, i love you Gooch but it's a no go on the sloppy seconds.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 01:16 AM) For anyone who enjoyed Boondock Saints, it appears that the sequel is actually happening now. That took a while. Despite the directors best efforts to never be allowed to work again http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_Duffy
  18. I'm still holding out for Blanco, but i kinda of like Coste if we could get him cheap for one or two years. Decent hitter, decent defender, good guy, great story. Yeah, i'm a softy.
  19. This has not been a good off-season to be a Cubs fan. Derosa may be getting on in age, but he's better then anything else the Indians have got, and his versatility will benefit them a lot more now that Blake is out of the picture for a whole season. As for the Cubs, Little Mikey Fontenot has proven himself a good bench player, but no one knows how he might do for a whole season. And Aaron Miles? If he's get more then 350 at-bats I think that'll be very unfortunate for the Cubs.
  20. Wow, the Cubs just traded their only clubhouse leader, their most versatile player, their most popular players with the fans and got no name value in return. The cubs fans are gonna love this.

Can anyone take Kate Winslet in a Holocaust movie seriously after her episode of Extras?
  22. Agreed, Tom’s an excellent resource, but in no way is he an insider. Any opinion he has is based on informed conjecture so, we here at Soxtalk are on even ground with him.
  23. This was all about getting rid of Marquis for the Cubs and Viscaino is somewhat serviceable so bully for them. As for the Rockies... where's the motivation?
