  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 10:00 PM) David Cook or John Shelby? I imagine they wanted somebody Major League ready.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) Typically they keep those a building or two over. I'm not kidding. Where's your office? The Pentagon?
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:53 PM) and you. I love you too, Knightni, but "I think you and I are destined to do this forever."
  4. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:52 PM) I know, if they don't do something in the next 2 days we are screwed. If anything this makes the Bailey trade more probable. It'll happen soon too. Once Tex is off the market the OF's are next, and KW's going to want to make sure the Red's don't have that option open to them.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) Thank God. Taveras hurt then Jackson traded. What is this board coming to? Please will someone take Sonnanstine now???? Also, good deal for the Tigers. Serious ugrade from what they have.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) That settles it. Our regular starting OF next year will be Owens, Wise, Dye. The 3 guys that never get invited to any party. The Buzz Killington's of the Chicago WhiteSox.
  7. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) 9:32 p.m. — Source: Tigers to aqcuire Edwin Jackson The Detroit Tigers are set to acquire right-hander Edwin Jackson from the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Matt Joyce, according to a major-league source. -- Ed Price Congrats to Joyce being the centerpiece of a deal. He was an OF back on a collegiate team a couple years back that I broadcasted for this year, a. It’s amazing he’s gotten so far. Confidentially, I think Jack Egbert was there too. Also, Jackson and Taveras seemingly off the table? What is this board going to talk about?
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:42 PM) If Bedard was non-tendered, someone would have to be willing to give him a decent contract and take a chance. The guy was dominant two years ago. Coop Can Fix 'Em. Teach him the Cutter. .
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) Am I the only one who isn't overly excited about Carrasco. He was stellar for us given the situation last year but his stuff isn't that good. I like him a lot as a depth guy we have in the minors but not as a reliever on a playoff team. You're not. He's kind of like the Wise of the bullpen. He's serviceable, but i'd prefer he not be there.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) Random sound of metal banging together behind me in my office. Better get going, man. Go! GO! GET TO THE CHOPPAH!!!
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:30 PM) Mark Teixeira must do something I don't see, as there's no way he's worth this amount of money. Scott Boras is an absolute shark. Tex has very little to do with it other than being a ballplayer.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) Last I looked we couldn't get outs from the pen for an extended period. I believe the club actually has a current hole in the pen. Logan is gone and I would expect one of Richard/Poreda to replace him (with the other potentially being in the rotation). You than have Linebrink coming back from injury and Dotel but I think there is still a potential opening for another reliever (especially if Ozzie goes back to carrying an extra reliever and I'd anticipate such considering how young the rotation will be). We're thinking a seven-man pen, right? Thorton, Linebrink, Dotel, Jenks, Carrasco are pretty much confirmed. Last Year, Ozzie came out and said he sees a place for Russel in the pen. So, we'll put that at six reasonably assured spots. And than i imagine the longman/lefty will be filled by CR/AP.
  13. Unless we plan on giving the Mets Jenks to go with Putz and K-Rod. We don't really have a place for the guy here.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) I still don't understand anyone's fascination with Brad Penny, other than as someone to go out partying with BA. Hey! That’s a underrated statistic now that Toby’s gone. http://www.lvrj.com/columnists/normclarke/...tml?normBN=true
  15. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 07:28 PM) Gotcha. Sorry if I sounded harsh, I'm just feeling very discouraged at the thought that we might have a team full of young prospects next year rather than proven players. What's that line: always darksest before the morning light? This isn't the 1st time the organization has gone through this, and usually we come out the better for it.
  16. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) How do you know that? You got anyone better to fill the 25th spot on the roster? The bench is shaping up to be Wise, Armstrong, Betemit, and one of Nix/Lillibridge. And southsidedon: So, i make the argument that we got some guys to help us this year, And you say,:"no, just 3." I never made a claim that all these guys would be on the team, i simply said that KW hasn't been sitting on his heels like everyone suggests.
  17. So, it appears that it was Taveras who failed the physical. Can we stop the talk now? http://blogs.denverpost.com/rockies/2008/1...health-concern/
  18. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 05:45 PM) LOL. I remember when Cub fans instantly calling Pawelek one of their top prospects right after they gave him a bunch of money. There was never any doubt that Pawelek had great stuff, it's just his motion put so much burden on his body that his arm blew out.
  19. 2005 was still a decent draft for us. We got Getz, Cunningham, Cortes, Richard, Danks 2 (didn’t sign), and Christian Marrero. After Mccullogh we just got Shelby.
  20. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Broadway has still not even been remotely close to as bad as McCullouch. It's not like the Sox have given him much of a chance anyway. Who knows how much Wilder had to do with this. Bureau said he had a lot of American guys involved in the corrupt signings as well. I'd like to see McCulloch in middle relief up in AAA to see if we can salvage anything out of him this year.
  21. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 03:51 PM) Talk about sick... How about the Blue Jays taking Ricky Romero with the 6th pick that year? Ah, the famous pick that turned Keith Law against every front office in the MLB.
  22. Here are some of the notables selected after McCullogh: Preston Mattingly, Emmanuel Buriss, Adrian Cardenas, Joba Chamberlain, Chris Perez.
  23. 2005 was really just an awesome draft year. (not for the White Sox mind you) I have a feeling that 2008 might just rival it though.
  24. The success of teams like the A’s, Marlins, Braves, and our White Sox show that you don’t have to get the best player to succeed you just need to get the right ones. I’m not one to lose faith in Kenny this early. And I’m saying that as a guy who wanted him fired at the beginning of last year. Kenny has a plan, and while that plan may not involve a Dunn, a Furcal, or a Hudson it involves putting his team in the best option to win right now and in the future. It’s one thing to go balls out and try to win it all every year; it’s another thing to actually formulate a strategy for putting your team in the best position for years to come. I’m on record as saying that the team as presently structured can win at least 80, and compete for the division. You can quote me on that.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) He was talking about 2009 Major League talent, I'm sure...and I only see one person on that list (Betemit) Either Nix or Lillbridge'll make the team too.
