  1. QUOTE (almagest @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) No we weren't. Our bullpen and Javy were awful in the second half of the year, Contreras was hurt, and our MVP-candidate LF injured himself with a month left in the season. A leadoff hitter wouldn't have done squat to change that. Let's stop it with the myth that a scrappy leadoff hitter is all we need to reach the World Series again, OK? And our All-Star 3rd basemen hardly did a thing post-break.
  2. I think there was some legitimate interest from KW in Reyes and Morton. I just think the scouts said here are some guys who you want more.
  3. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) I can't imagine anyone disagreeing with you. Bailey was on of the top prospects in baseball just a year ago. I don’t know if anyone has the link, but two years ago SI had a next big thing section of its annual MLB season preview. On it were a couple notable names, Alex Gordon, Justin Upton, Chris Ianetta, Kevin Kouzmanoff, and two notable pitching prospects, Phil Hughes and Homer Bailey. That’s some good company, right there. I really hope KW is trying to raise the Reds offer, because I don’t want to end up with Jackson or Morton when we could have had Homer.
  4. QUOTE (quickman @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) Its not like we are winning anything next year. "I find your lack of faith disturbing"- Darth KW
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) i want bailey. bring it. i want dickerson too. bring them!
  6. Playing advocate, this doesn’t mean he’s a citizen, it just means that no one wants to make him prove it.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) Cubs are in intense discussions to get Milton Bradley. Mercy, that team is going to have a bunch of assholes in the locker room, but spectacular talent on the field. It’s a brilliant move by the Cubs. They really need someone like Bradley who can shake up that clubhouse, and deflect all of the curse crap that reigns down annually.
  8. The Purple Phallus made Deadspin!!! http://deadspin.com/5103969/if-a-game-last...ult-your-doctor
  9. I’m not saying that Bradley’ll be a saint, It’s just possible that a coach like Ozzie with a dominate personality could be exactly what Bradley needs to offset his own. As for the fan response to the Dye trade, Would the reaction be any worse than when Lee was traded, or Fat Freddie? There’s not a Sox fan in the world who won’t be satisfied the 1st time Bailey strikes out 10 in a Chicago uni.
  10. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) why do you keep saying "almost without incident" as if thats a good thing? The guy has bigtime anger issues, and he isnt worth all of this "strong support staff" insulation from being an out of control maniac. He’s a volatile personality, but he can be kept in check. A guy like Ozzie, and a GM like KW are the exact type of people who can help Bradley. Out. There was an incident last year where Bradley went after the Royals announcer for what he perceived as being a personal attack. Bradley was stopped by his friends on the team; afterwards he never took any ill-conceived action again. Milton Bradley can have a place in Chicago, the team certainly would have to make some accommodations (picking up a backup to spell him everyonce In a while), but his bat is just too potent to let go if you can get it. Remember AJ and Jenks had a history of incidents as well, and they’ve been fantastic additions to the team.
  11. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) AJ never had any of the anger problems that Bradley has had. Not even close The guy put up an OBP of .436 and A SLG of .563., in a ballpark similar to the Cell, while being almost without incident last year. Clearly, he needs a strong support staff with him in Chicago, but I don’t think that would be a problem. He and Swish are different animals.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) f***ing Heroes is so good I dont even know why people dont like it. Unreal. I propose that poor writing and acting are part of that reason.
  13. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 12:07 PM) Yet, if Kanye does something out of the ordinary...people praise it. Keep in mind that Kanye’s working with some really good producers. Jon Brion might just be a musical genius, and while it was an unorthodox choice it was a good one.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:57 AM) According to one National League executive, the Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves have had serious discussions about a trade that would send outfielder Jeff Francouer to the Royals for pitcher Zack Greinke. The same source said he believed the teams were close to executing the deal, but that Atlanta was holding up any and all trade discussions until the Braves had a resolution of their pursuit of right-hander AJ Burnett. mlbtraderumors If the Royals do this each and every member of that front office needs to be fired, while each member of the Braves staff needs a promotion.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) I would rather avoid Bradley's attitude, I just don't like him at all. Just my personal opinion, which I am sure most don't share. But no doubt he could be a huge bat in the lineup. i think he’d be in a good place here. He’ll have Ozzie and AJ around, and the clubhouse guys here are a lot more assertive then who he was surrounded with back in his Cleveland/LA days. Remember Bradley went mostly without incident last year, because he had a good group of friends in Hamilton and Kinsler. I wouldn’t be surpassed if he finds a place here for two year. Incidentally, he’s exactly the type of player the Cubs need to shake them from their offensive complacency in the playoffs. He could give a damn about curses, he just wants to get his numbers and his money.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) I'd make the slight difference that Broadway, probably, isn't going to help much. But Owens as a 4th OF isn't a bad option, and I agree that the rest of the list is people who can and probably will help the team now. Broadway’s iffy, yeah, but I figured my point would lose meaning if I listed a series of players backing the guy I was refuting up. Broadway might make a decent long-man. Who knows? And I’ll throw my hat into the Milton Bradley ring. Assuming we have a decent backup option to spell him from his injuries, he’s a professional hitter who would wreak havoc in the Cell.
  17. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) Nobody here thinks the likes of Lillibridge, Nix, Betemit, Owens, Anderson, Marquez, Broadway, Richard, Poreda, Bailey etc. etc. are MLB ready to play 162 (30+ for starting pitchers) games, and I firmly believe none of those players are good enough to be part of a platoon for a whole season I Do. Don't put words in my mouth. Everyone (but Owens) that you just listed has serious potential to help the team win now.
  18. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:03 AM) K-Rod to Mets very close and looking very likely: http://www.nypost.com/seven/12082008/sport..._rod_143325.htm This should be good. K-Rods peripherals suggest that next year is going to be very-interesting for the New York Mets.
  19. I’ve been scouting this kid, like crazy, and I think he stands a decent shot of getting the job. He’s very well-rounded; if he can get over this injury we’re all going to want his jersey inside of six months. His ears are a different story, but his jersey definitely.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:23 PM) One more and we have January's list. I'm working on it.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:42 AM) I don't think it matters that 3 of those players came from other organizations seeing as how they are now Texas Rangers and are developing as such. Agreed, although Murphy, Hamilton, and Salty had already produced somewhat at the Major League Level prior to being acquired, The Rangers have done a good job at facilitating their development as players.
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:36 AM) to be fair the Rangers have some pluses. They have a top3 farm system without a doubt, than ontop of that they got some good young talent on big league club already with chris davis, david murphy, ian kinsler, salty, and hamilton is a stud. The problem being that three of the players you mention weren’t even developed by the Rangers they came from outside the organization. That being said, I like Teargarden and Boggs, and they’ve got some decent pitching prospects coming up the pipe
  23. Read My Lips, Leno. Total Dick Move.
  24. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:32 AM) Between this, trading Danks, and their perpetual dearth of quality pitching, that organization is hilariously incompetent. I imagine the Rangers will become increasingly irrelevant once the resurgent Mariners pass them by.
  25. QUOTE (R.J. @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:11 AM) I've never seen a convincing argument that fast guys create runs. That's such a horrendous misconception. Just look at how many runs Ryan Theriot cost the Cubs last year. Statistically, you need to successfully steal that base 75% of time or you're actually costing your team runs
