  1. QUOTE (TCQ @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) Astros acquired LHP Tyler Lumsden from the Royals for a player to be named or cash. Lumsden was designated for assignment by the Royals after going 3-13 with a 7.21 ERA in Triple-A last season. The cost was surely minimal and 40-man roster spots aren't at a premium in Houston, so there's no harm in taking him on. However, it's quite unlikely that Lumsden will ever amount to anything. Ouch thats gotta hurt the ol self esteem Buh, Buh, We traded him for Mike Mcdougal! What do you mean that trade wasn't as terrible as we like to think it was? Look, i know that Cortes is the real prospect, but i never felt this deal was as bad as it was labeled. This report lends even more credence to that theory.
  2. Great to hear about Poreda's ever improving slider if he can get at least a tolerable change it should be enough to throw off major leaguers waiting on the fastball
  3. Anyone ever seen the documentary the Men who Killed Kennedy? That's what really got me interested in some of the theorys going around. I don't really put much stock in the whole it's a gigantic Cuban conspiracy, but i'm more then willing to cast my interest towards the whole grassy knoll Officer JD Tippit story.
  4. Please lord let Jim Bowden overpay, please, please, please.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 09:11 PM) I mainly have doubts about Tebow's durabilty at the pro level. While i could really see Daniel finding sucess in a place like Minnesota or Indy, where his height disadvantage could be compensated for by a decent OL.
  6. That trick play for the TD by Uconn was pure perfection. It was also the most ballsy play i've ever seen them run.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 08:05 PM) You laugh at Tebow's pro potential, but then you mention Daniel's pro potential as being legit. Daniels’s main problem is his height. Tebow’s is that as soon as one of his legs gets knocked out from under him, he’s got very little else to rely on. His arm’s average and most of his success relies on a specific set of speedy WRS suited to his type of passing game. Things aren’t going to come as easy for him in the pros.
  8. I think Stafford, Harrel, Bradford, Daniel, and McCoy are all legitimate draft prospects. Plus you have the 3rd to 4th round team who’s going to roll the dice on Juice Williams in two years, and the unfortunate soul who’s going to buy into the Tebow’s a pro QB hype. There's some decent talent emerging within the next two years
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 05:30 PM) Some interesting names. Townsend (top pick who hasn't been able to stay healthy) & Veal. Plus some former highly touted players like Tony Richie, Ryan Harvey. How have they not protected Veal yet? Now, that Ceda's gone he's one of their only viable pitching prospects.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) I couldn't follow the Bond movie very well. Liked the action scenes, but that was it. Agreed, i really felt like i needed to watch the first one again. While that isn't a bad thing, i don't think that should be the case.
  11. Wow, we’re going to be in an incredibly tough place this offseason. On one hand, the QB class is going to be incredibly strong for the next two years, on the other we have Orton who remains somewhat of a mystery to all of us. I would be fine with drafting an OL like Oher or even focusing on defense and WR, but still…
  12. Keep in mind that the Rangers traded a CF prospect for another Cf prospect. They’re in the exact same situation that they were in before only with a different player involved. That being said, if they want to clear up their OF logjam I’m sure KW’d be more than willing to explore the possibility.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) We need a leadoff hitter. Who would you suggest? In house? Ramirez, Anderson, Getz, and (shudder) Owens. We don't have to follow the traditional definition of a leadoff hitter. We need someone to get on base, and accept an extra AB every game. You don’t always have to find a leadoff man, you can create one. It’s a spot in the batters order nothing more and nothing less. While it would be excellent to have a Roberts or a Dejesus setting the table every day, we certainly shouldn’t give up a king’s ransom to do so.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 12:49 PM) They make an ass out of Thunderbolt? We're all in this one together, my friend. I love Viciedo as much as the rest of you guys, but he's about 9 years younger than Alexei, and a lot less of certainty to perform at the MLB right now. There’s no reason to rush him unless we have to
  15. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 11:10 AM) Also I think we can assume Viciedo will be at the major league level for as much as possible next year, getting used to his Cuban support team. You know what they say about assumptions. We’ve got Fields, Betemit, and Nix. Plus the possibility of a trade for a third basemen. We’ve got no real need to invest in Viciedo performing at the Major League level at this particular juncture.
  16. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 22, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) So wait, a guy who has control problems would be better off becoming a closer where he has less time to warm up and less time to find his release point? It worked for Bobby, but Bobby is kind of the exception, not the rule, plus Bobby developed more into a pitcher. As a 4th or 5th starter with the potential to become a 2 or 3 I'd love Edwin Jackson, especially if we could also get a pitching prospect in the deal. As for Brignac, why not just trade for the real Khalil Greene? He's out there and should cost quite a bit less. The idea of creating a closer comes from the belief that you can put an above-average pitch put him in the 9th and have accumulate numbers that raise his value. This would be ideal for a pitcher like Jackson who struggles to get his control as the game goes on. Jackson has a straight fastball that goes up to 97, and a devastating slider, but struggles throwing his other pitches over the plate for a strike. So, you make him a two-pitch pitcher ,and put him into a position that not only allows him to get his work in, but accumulate stats that have some surface value to the rest of the MLB (the saves statistics.)
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 22, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) And he was 100 percent dominating the end of the game until he got kneed. He even shushed the crowd twice. Rose just came out and said he was fine. So, he'll be ready for the next game. And may i just say, Attaboy Hughes raise that trade value!
  18. I love the hell out of Bobby Jenks, but he’s a closer. And a closer, by definition, is easily replaced. While I'm not saying his replacement (whether it be Link, Dotel, Thorton or whomever) will replicate Jenks stats or the energy that his presence brings to the mound, I don't think it will be that difficult to find someone to step in to the 9th inning role and get three outs. If we can get Pelfrey, Martinez or Murphy/Heilman for what is in essence, a closer, and a 3/4 Starter we do it, and we do it without hesitation.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:41 AM) Ed Jackson is a guy who could defenitely find his way to Chicago in a deal. The Rays want to dump him badly from the sounds of it. Unless we plan on raising his value by making him the Closer, Jackson has no value to us. Jackson was one of these vaunted AA Dodgers prospects (along with SS Joel Guzman) who got dramatically overhyped as soon as people figured out how great Logan White was, and tried to paint his every move as genius. He’s a fireballer with great stuff, but no control. You make him the closer he might just thrive, you make him a mult-iinnings guy he might just blow you a couple ballgames. That being said, Brignac + Jackson for Dye predicated on the notion that we trade Jackson two years from now if he retains value…. Let’s go for it.
  20. When Van Bendenschoten was drafted the consensus opinion was that it was as a hitter rather than a pitcher. The pirates naturally, disagreed and instead tried to exploit his (admittedly) excellent arm and decent pitching numbers and turn him into a top of the rotation starter. This was a poor move from the start as he’s never really figured the distinction between strikes and balls outs. So, what I imagine will eventually, happen is that he’ll quit pitching and pull an Ankeil. I do not, however, think this opportunity will come as a part of the Sox’s organization.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 03:13 AM) I've never seen either of these guys in person, how would you compare former Sox prospect C. Carter with Brandon Allen? Which one do you think will have the bigger major league impact? Projected numbers over a full season? A quick glance at his (Carter's) numbers remind me of Chris Young without the speed. Strikes out about 35% of the time (say Rob Deer/Cory Snyder), hits a lot of homers and will probably have a fairly low average, .230's-.250's. Maybe a little reminiscent of Dunn as a player, with obviously a lower ceiling? I haven't seen them in person either, but from what I’ve heard Brandon Allen is much more athletic than Carter. When Allen was first drafted scouts had him pegged as a Mo Vaughan type, but since then he seems to of developed down a path that I’d say is vaguely similar to that of Lance Beckman. He got good contact, great power, and a little speed. Carter, on the other hand, is more of the swing and/or miss with monstrous power type. Think of Adam Dunn for a similarity.
  22. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) would some care to list all the at-bats that were "unlucky?? remember, caught looking on the outside corner K at-bats don't count because the ball wasn't put in play a You do realize that Swisher had 497 at bats last year and what you’re asking is completely irrational from a layman’s perspective, right? How about this there are people whose job it is to chart every ball that is hit in one season of Major League baseball. It was those people who upon analyze their results decided Swisher was unlucky.
  23. Three on the same day. Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone, and Dirty Sexy Money were just cancelled.
  24. QUOTE (quickman @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 09:26 PM) PS and I apologize in advance for intermixing threads but didn't we burn a third round pick on a third baseman (morel) and now we have a very young starting third baseman and a brand new up an comer in this Cuban guy, seems like a waste of a 3rd round pick. I hope one of them works out. If Morel is really as good as this organization thinks he is then we'll find a way to get him at least 330 at bats per year, but we don't have to worry about that for a couple years down the line.
  25. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 09:26 PM) Thome will be gone after 2009. Wait, they option they exercised was for this coming year, right? You might just be right then. Despite this signing i still think Nix and Fields will be in our opening day lineup. Cf is the only position i see as up in the air.
