  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 07:10 PM) I think if Konerko shows some life within the next two years and puts up solid production, we could see him return, at either 1B or DH. While i think that Thome's more likley to be here then Konerko in two years i imagine whomever is here (Konerko, Thome, or Dye) will move to DH when Allen is ready.
  2. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) 1B: Paul Konerko 2B: Gordon Beckham SS: Alexei Ramirez 3B: Dayan Viciedo Who doesn't belong? That might just be your 2010 White Sox infield only with Brandon Allen in place of a certain someone.
  3. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) Cook is the quintessential baseball player, I've never in my life seen a homerun hit as hard as his are. Look, i really like what Cook brings to to the table, but he's a bit old to be an actual prospect at this point. He also stuck in a fairly signifcant logjam right now, and hasbeen complelty jumped by Brandon Allen. He's kind of like the Soxs version of Micah Hoffpauier. He's a AAAA basher, that you just don't know what you're going to get with at the Major League Level.
  4. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) 11 million, probably 5 years. Torres says he can be in the majors this year, but the Sox most likely think otherwise. Good things happen to those who wait, eh? I've got him pencield in for AA this year, but the future does look very bright for Viciedo
  5. So in conclusion 2005 was great, and we have mixed feeling on the value of Carl Everett. Anyone have any new thoughts on this Swisher deal?
  6. Let's get creative. Let's fire Paxson, "promote" VDN to GM, and hire Avery Johnson or Thibodeu(SP?,) or hell, even promte Bickerstaff. THat way we come out of this VDN fiasco reasonably clean. He was assistant GM in Phoenix, and has a decent mind for this stuff.
  7. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:49 PM) That is awesome. I wonder what it would be like if a player from the Sox posted here. I remember we had one Sox prospect that used to post. It was Jeff Bajenaru (sp?) right? Really great guy, big sabermetrics guy too, never really caught on as a reliever in the big leagues though.
  8. Could it be that Ben Gordon actually resents having to give the ball to Derrick Rose? They’re both solid players who would complement each other perfectly, but they're just not in synch. Something needs to change quickly, and starts at the top. At this point, Paxson should save himself the humiliation and resign.
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) Am I weird for never having drugs or alcohol ever appeal to me? Keep in mind I'm a senior in high school and I'd say at least 90% of my classmates drink every weekend, and a good portion smoke, and a smaller portion do even bigger stuff then just pot. Wait till you get to college, man. I'm in the same boat as you I’ll drink socially, yeah, but the idea of just getting trashed and waking up with a splitting headache has no appeal to me.
  10. Fringe is rocking right now. I'd advise everyone to get into it now before it's too late.
  11. Doesn't Ozzie always tell Cora to get ready to manage whenever he hears a certain umpire is doing the game? Who is it, Cuzzi?
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 06:34 PM) Why did someone say we lost out on Viciedo? I frequent nearly every MLB Rumor site there is, and I have heard nothing on this kid since his workout. So, I don’t where Caufield is getting this information. I believe it’s just as assumption as last we heard interest was growing throughout the league. And we all know what they say about assumptions…
  13. A spot just opened up for Burnett. Mike Mussina has decided to retire.
  14. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 04:30 PM) So if Reinsdorf had that mentality, you wouldnt be a fan? I’d be lying if I said no, wouldn’t i? But this isn't the case. Reinsdorf's pockets have limits, the Yankees have none. This isn’t a jealousy thing, though I suppose there is some resentment involved. I just dislike the whole corporate mentality that surrounds The Yankees Organization. The notion that everybody hates a Steinbrenner until they have one has some truth behind it, that being said; I’m more than happy to root for a team that has to rely on other things then money. Like judgment, risk, and more than a little luck.
  15. I can’t understand why anyone would ever want to root for a team that can just go out and buy all the talent. There’ no competitive spirit, no underdog mentality, it’s just we have the money, and we’re gonna put it to good use.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 03:20 AM) Jeff Mangums voice is horrid. I dunno, it's different certainly, but it's got a earnest and real quality to it.. His lyrics are really what moves people. No questions about In the Aeroplane is one of the finest albums ever made. So, Magnum'll join a list with Dylan, Springsteen, Jon Brion, Colin Meloy and Billy Corgan of people with different voices that just work. Back to this list though. Some lesser know possibilities. How's about : Elliott Smith Stuart Murdoch (Belle and Sebastian) Chris Martin (Coldplay) Ben Gibbard (Death Cab) Tom Chaplin (Keane) The Watkins Siblings (Nickle Creek) Gerry Rafferty (Stuck in the Middle With You, Right Down the Line, Baker Street.) Jon Anderson (YES)
  17. Nah, no offense taken. You’re absolutely correct. Wait and see has been the Royals mentality pretty much since Brett left and it seems to of lulled them into complacency. I really do think, however, that they can really make something of their developing offensive core. In the past, they’ve really mangled this, but I think their new Gm Moore, while not a genius does seem to have a decent idea of what he’s doing. What that idea is exactly I don’t know, but he does seem awfully possessive of some of these young kids.
  18. I'd add Hosmer and Melville to the untouchable list at least for the next two years. This Royals team has a bright future ahead of it. I still see us beating them for the next couple of years, but when Gordon, Hochevar, and Butler finally pull it together they're going to come on strong.
  19. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:01 PM) Does anybody know if he can handle the bat well enough to bat 2nd? Can he bunt or hit to the right side. Those skills might help him get to the majors quicker. He's an ideal number #2 hitter. Terrific bat-handler, but it's not bunts we're going to be asking of him
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) . I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see Jose Guillen traded though either. Who do you see biting on that terrible contract?
  21. Yeah, i'm just hoping badly that we get Owens off the roster ASAP.
  22. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) You go with your bad self And that aint happenin' I know i don't like it much either, but it's totally an Ozzie thing to do. Assuming we've got the guys we've got now. I'm seeing BA AJ Q Dye Thome Konerko Ramirez Fields Nix Logically, it's a bad move. BA and Aj are not top of the order hitters, but who else goes up there? Ramirez, maybe, but Ozzie seems to like him down. I think we'd be forcing his hand here.
  23. Assuming a deal doesn't go through, where we get a name Cf with decent speed, i have Anderson slotted in as our leadoff man next year.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:30 AM) He really wanted this job. He was jockeying heavily for it. (If someone looks like he can jockey, its Joey) He had Ozzie, KW and JR call on his behalf. The Mariners have a chance to actually be decent in time. I think Joey will eventually land a job where he's doomed to get fired after a couple seasons of losing. Pittsburgh, Baltimore, something like that. The A's organization is developing quite a pedigree with Francona, Wash, Macha, and now Waka really branching out.
  25. Wow, the Royals are really good at making moves that force them to make other moves. A name change, perhaps? Kansas City Logjams?
