  1. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 12:15 PM) You don't want to know. And I don't want to see how much worse Flowers might be defensively. Re-sign AJ if he is willing to sign at a reduced salary for the next couple of years. Have you been following Tyler Flowers at all, or did you just take some of the scouting concerns from when we first traded for him, and used that to form your opinion? Because since the trade he was awarded a best defensive catcher award, has lit up the minors and has gotten praise for how he calls games.
  2. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 12:38 PM) Yep. You do realize that proves nothing, right? I can come up with two names too, here we go… Josh Fields and Coby Rasmus. Just because they're two guys who play baseball, it doesn't make them at all similar.
  3. I really feel bad for this Nava kid. ESPN is giving him so much hype, and he’s nowhere near as talented as guys like Carlos Santana and Mike Stanton. This kid is being set up for failure.
  4. QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) I cannot envision AJ getting traded tonight. Flowers is just not good enough. I think the Sox should trade Flowers before it's too late. By the way, this is coming from an huge Flowers fan since we acquired him. Flowers has hit everywhere we've put him. He has 5 bombs in his last six games. His defense is improving by the day, and he has a much better approach at the plate then AJ. He's also younger.
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 03:10 AM) I'm with you, but I firmly believe he will still be here by Monday. Just my opinion. This NL run is a trap. I loving winning, but i'm very afraid of Ozzie falling in love with this team again. I must sound like a huge buzzkill, and i'm sorry for that, but i refuse to buy what this team is selling. Not after what i saw for everything preceding two games against the Tigers and Cubs.
  6. The problem with buying is that the only pieces we have (Flowers, Hudson, and Viciedo) are guys that should probably be starting for this ballclub in a few weeks. Otherwise, if you think you can get anything of notes for Jordan Danks, John Shelby, Chris Marrero, and Jeff Marquez, then bully for you. I appreciate optimism, but not at the expense of the team I root for. I see a team that’s not built to win this division, and has done nothing to prove otherwise throughout the course of the year. I don’t see making trades for older talent in an attempt to get back in a race we fell out of two months ago, a good idea. What we need to do is clear salary and get some young talent, so we can start forming a plan for 2011.
  7. QUOTE (The Beast @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 01:44 AM) So I guess it is safe to say that A.J. Pierzynski will be on the south side of Chicago for the immediate future, and that these rumors of him getting traded are false, as per usual? Flowers is starting to hit the crap out of the ball in AAA again. We still should trade AJ, while the going is good.
  8. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 01:28 AM) Go watch that other crap then. This thread is about making the 2010 Chicago White Sox into World Champions. Don't stop believing. This is what I meant by this winning streak happening at the worst possible time. Do you honestly believe that the team you’ve been watching for the last three months is an anomaly? That just because we can beat the s*** out of the Cubs, (a task that others teams like the Pirates have performed admirably), that we’re suddenly going to take off, make up 7.5 games on a team that’s not only better than us, but are fully capable of making the same moves to improve their team that people are suggesting in this thread? The optimist in me would love to think that is the start of that big turnaround, the realist thinks of losing to the Indians, the fact the guys like Beckham and Q show little promise at the plate, and the fact that our Manager and General Manager are locked in a power struggle as we speak, Going out and making lateral moves to make a suicide run at second place is not going to accomplish anything. Just like delaying the inevitable by keeping guys like AJ is only going to serve to set this organization up for failure now and into the future.
  9. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 01:17 AM) If our victories over bad teams now are more or less irrelevant then so is our terrible record against the Indians. It shouldn't come as a suprise that we can beat bad NL teams. There's a pretty profound gap between the AL and the NL: look no further then the Red Sox beating the living hell from the Phillies, or on the opposite end of the spectrum: the Indians destroying the Nationals. The Al is a flat-out better league then the NL, if we couldn't beat a team like the Cubs we might as well go home. The big problem with the getting hot theory is that when we're not facing the NL we're 12-13 against the AL Central and being flat-out dominated by teams like the Indians.
  10. I'm looking forward to when the new guys sign, and the Barons gets an influx of guys from the Purple Phallus. It will be nice to see the Barons competitive again. Plus, I really want to see how Loman does against better competition.
  11. Eric Byrnes' slow-pitch, beer-league softball team could probably take a series from the Cubs. Don't read too much into this. This is still the team that can't beat the Indians, this is still the team that's 7.5 games back on June 12 of a team that's better then us. While we're playing the Pirates, Nats, Cubs and Royals, the Twins get to face the Rockies, Phillies, Brewers, and Mets. There’s no guarantee that when we play well, they’re going to fade away.
  12. Wow, UCLA with a two-run shot with 2 outs in the 9th. Puts them on top 7-6
  13. This hot streak is going to fool a lot of people. My worst fear for this year is that we keep the 2005 core so we can make a futile push for second place in this division. We need to change the culture of this organization, we need to install Flowers as our starting catcher, and be prepared to make changes that will put us in the position to be competitive for years to come.
  14. I still contend that there has never been a better time then now to trade AJ. Despite our hotstreak, the Twins have still been playing to pace with us, and Flowers is starting to really heat up in AAA.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 06:35 PM) That doesn't bode well. The roof gonna cave in the 8th and 9th? Nor if we put Jenks in. Right, Greg? Just kidding with you.
  16. Wow, i'm impressed that Ozzie gave Mark the hook.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) Isn't that game rained out yet? I was crossing my fingers, but they're almost through 6.
  18. It's fun watching the Phillies exhaust their bullpen.
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) I think since Seattle (in which he has 3 hall of famers), he has been a highly over-rated manager. You still don't just walk into 116 wins. He was a great manager, he's just showing his age.
  20. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) I think people are just annoyed with him being outspoken when he's a big part of the reason that the White Sox are probably going to be trading players this July. Jake Peavy is outspoken. That's his thing, why would he deny a part of himself just to be P.C? That's not Jake. Let him talk as long as he backs it up through his performance. Yesterday, he did just that.
