White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
ThunderBolt replied to Chisoxfn's topic in 2011 Season in Review
I really hope this means we don't have to watch those bland, "White Sox Baseball. It's Black And White" ads ever again. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) Honestly, I can't think of a thing that Cowley had right this off-season, without it being reported by someone else first. Didn't Cowley report that Konerko's agent was in the lobby of the hotel at some point? He might have had to use a GPS, but that was a sharp observation.

Crawford to Boston, $142 Million, 7 Years
ThunderBolt replied to Leonard Washington's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (qwerty @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) That is hardly the case. Crawford has only played 54 games in center in his career with 47 of those being starts. He has managed to moan after just about everyone of those games also. 54 games in center out of 1235? Crawford had 673 games under his belt after the 2006 season... while upton had a grand total of 95 at the same point. He simply just refuses to play center. The metrics suggest that Upton is the better Cf then Crawford. The fact that the Rays put both of those two guys in their statistically superior defensive postions suggests it as well. Crawford might have been reluctant to play center, but it's not like the Rays alternative was 2008 Ken Griffey JR. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 06:37 PM) The same Adam Russell we traded them? God, i remember when Russell, McCulloch and Broadway were all listed among our top prospects. Simple, because we had none. Those were dark times.

I try not to get too excited about this. The Sox never do anything here.

Crawford to Boston, $142 Million, 7 Years

QUOTE (qwerty @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) Btw, i hate the fact that he is a pansy and refuses to play center. It's pathetic. I think that had more to do with BJ Upton being equally athletic and having a better arm then Crawford. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 12:26 AM) f*** the Sawks and Yanks. Kenny is leaving this postseason a bandit. Theo Epstein is leaving it like Adam "Pacman" Jones leaves a night club. -

Jesus. The annual pissing match between the Red Sox and Yankees is getting ridiculious. There really needs to be a cap. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Whatever happened to Cowley's claim Konerko needed at least $15 million a year? The same thing that happens to nearly all of his other claims. It was complete conjecture and utter crap.
-
I'd be game for the Heath Bell deal. I'd also throw him into a package for BJ Upton.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) He was pretty much the guy I was thinking of as a cheap sign for the Sox. Perfect LOOGY. Bernstein leaked the name Byrdak about a week ago. It was just abritrary enough to think it's probably going to happen.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) I wish Brandon Hynick was awesome. That would be great. He's a really awesome guy... that means nothing, but still.
-
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:45 AM) The Pirates are kicking the round tires of Bartolo Colon. Good luck, guys. I've heard he's lost 40 pounds. Now all he needs is a new head on his shoulders, a work ethic, a time machine, and he'll be good to go.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:19 AM) So as of right now we have pretty much the same exact offensive lineup from last year except Dunn replaces Kotsay...right? Which is really what we were all hoping for last year anyways.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) It's 1M per year deferred. Seriously, that is nothing and would never get in the way or any sort of sign or trade. Isn't Bobby Bonilla still making a significant amount of money from the Mets on deferred money?
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:54 AM) Side note: Man, Heyman is well connected. He's pretty much the middle man between Boras and the Tigers. That man has both ears to the ground.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) I think it's irresponsible. Screw you, PK. I'm still suprised that he allowed negotations to get hostile. It reminds me of the Derek Jeter thing. Bridges weren't burned, but they were bruised.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) Unless Quentin can net something, we likely are relying on our two lefties as being the two best pen guys. That's not that huge of a leap when those two guys are Matt Thornton and Chris Sale.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:46 AM) 37.5M over 3 years per ESPN. That's pretty reasonable terms. Kenny and Jerry really did handle this well.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:43 AM) Now lets fill out that bullpen and kick some ass this year. Our offense is potent now. If we get any type of production out of TCQ and Beckham, we're going to routinely blow teams out of the water.
-
And... Boom Goes the Dynamite! I'm looking forward to hearing the terms.

Some guy over at Yahoo that i've never heard of claims, "Paul Konerko’s(notes) reunion with the Chicago White Sox, seemingly a done deal only a few days ago, is dead in the water for the time being. A source said that the ripple effect of Werth’s exorbitant deal spread to Konerko, whose demands rose after Werth signed with the Nationals. Not that the 34-year-old Konerko wants Werth money, but he certainly wants a more lucrative contract than the $56 million over three years the White Sox gave Adam Dunn(notes). The Rangers are very interested in Konerko, but only if Lee signs with the Yankees." http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=sh-martinoffer120710 I still think this gets done today.
-
Jerry did this with Luol Deng too. I really think he's going to overpay here.
-
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 12:18 AM) If the rangers are trading Chris Davis maybe PK is their [TEX] new forstbasemen. I agree O'Day is sick I would love to have him. Davis has ran out of shots for that organization. The Rangers trading him means little other then that they're tired of him.
-
I think Kenny is working this perfectly. I have complete faith things are going to work out, Paulie or not. That's a pretty marked change in perspective for me from last year, but i'm really confident.
