  1. Workman has a bit more upside then some of the previous "safe picks" we've taken. I like him, i'd prefer a couple people to him, but i see Workman as one of the first arms from this years drafts to make the majors.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) By the way, the Braves just took over the NL East lead. This is a fun team to watch. With the D-Backs sucking, they might move into the lead for, "NL team i might have to root for."
  3. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) Voted no. Last I checked the season didn't end on June 2nd. Teahen getting the hell out of here is a blessing. Get some pieces, because the Tigers suck and the Twins are far from world beaters. Has this team showed you any signs they could compete with the Tigers and Twins? They don't have to be world beaters to be 8.5 games better then us.
  4. I believe that Lowell is commited to retiring at the end of the year too. So, unless he hits his balls off and magically jumps a few spots to become a Type A free agent, this move has little long-term value to this organization.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 12:15 PM) It would just be a stopgap for 2010. I think it would mean Konerko is getting traded, and Viciedo and Morel aren't ready to be here this year. Lowell wouldn't be here for any other purpose than just to plug a guy in while the young guys get more seasoning in the minors--where they belong. The team is bad. It wouldn't be to win games, obviously. We have a stopgap for 2010. His name is Mark Teahen. We have no need to go out and make a move that makes us older, and won't make an already bad team that much better.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 11:59 AM) If it means the Red Sox pick up most or all of his contract and they don't force Viciedo up when he's not ready, I say- why not? It's not like he's forced to be here the next 4 years. Our team nees to get younger. We have no business trading whatever limited assets we currently have for an aging, declining, injury prone 3b. Especially, given the accelerated timetable this organization is putting Morel on. If this move gets made i'll be furious.
  7. We are not in a position to be buying, right now. Especially, for veteran talent.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 08:31 AM) Our pitching has yet to get hot which is encouraging, if they could get hot and win lets say 7 or 8 in a row and then continue winning series we could jump back into it. However its not very likely. I wouldn’t’ describe our pitching staff not getting on track as encouraging. There’s no guarantee that they’ll ever figure it out. In fact, it’s incredibly discouraging to think that this team’s success pended on them being elite from day one, and they’ve been far from it. If they ever click in place they’re still going to have to contend with an eight game deficit and a Twins team whose management is perfectly willing to upgrade this year.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 11:36 PM) 6 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs for Ely....good for him, bad for KW Ely sequences his pitches like a champ. I’ve been very impressed with how he shifts velocities and he appears to have an incredible rapport with Martin behind the plate. It’s not his stuff that’s getting him this far, it’s his head. He’s an example of baseball cliché: the guy knows how to pitch.
  10. I'm amazed at the amount of excuses Ozzie can make for Jenks, Kotsay and Omar. When does someone simply suck? When is it finally time to cut the chord? And why is Randy f***ing Williams still on this team?
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) Omar was 2-for-3 with a walk. I'm sure Jones would have drilled a hit. Yeah right. Omar coulda got a single; Lexi coulda got a single. This team sucks. We lose. You put in a guy who will work an at-bat and has extra-base potential. That guy isn't Omar Vizquel.
  12. What the f*** are you doing, Ozzie? Omar? Really? Mercy.
  13. How can you not work a f***ing at-bat? What the hell is this organization teaching these people and why the hell isn't Nix or Jones in for Omar?
  14. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) When will Kotsay be released... come on 0-5 and under .200avg again.. a WINNING team wouldn't keep kotsay on the roster. He's our starting DH and he's hitting in the 5 hole. If i had told you that last year, you would have kicked me in the junk. Oh, f*** you Alexei. What an awesome approach we have here in Chicago.
  15. Alexei with the bases loaded. You know what to do.
  16. Alright! Come on, Sox! Let's make the most of this!
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 11:19 PM) Well, when you're on your way to 3 years out of 4 with a mediocre to awful team, then I guess your manager is horrible. The same philosophy you mentioned above is true with every team in every league. It's true in every sport too. At the end of the day, manager's job is to put his team in the best position to win. That's all you can ask of him. Ozzie hasn't done that.
  18. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) Well, at least we have a 30 page game thread - looking for positives. This is actually a really great game thread. Nicely done everyone!
  19. Dead straight fastball to a dead fastball hitter. This is oddly similiar to when we put Brinkey in against Mike Jacobs.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) I'd like to know who we could've added that would've offset the crap that has been Beckham, CQ, Ramirez, Floyd, Peavy, Buehrle and Jenks? This isn't aimed at you, but I get so sick and tired of the constant venom spewed towards Ozzie and Kenny. Blame some of these f***in' million dollar players that are s***tin' the f***in' bed. I don't have any answers. What i can tell you is that i'd have taken a different approach in assembling this team, then management did. For one, i'd have put a greater importance on bringing in high-OBP guys, i'd have gotten an actual DH, and i wouldn't have left this years fate in the hands of retreads and lightning in bottles.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:58 PM) Hawk talking up Lillibridge. You have to be kidding me. After the verbal blow jobs he gave to Randy Ruiz, nothing that Hawk say about anyone will shock me.
  22. Sadly, our fate was probably sealed during Spring, it just took us a couple weeks into the season to realize just how fundamentally flawed this team really was.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:54 PM) Barring a Hudson injury, I don't know how you could have a worse season with your prospects than the Sox have (given the news of Trayce Thompson's injury) I dunno. It wasn't that long ago when our top prospects were Lance Broadway, Kyle McCulloch and Adam Russell. We've had some really s***ty luck this season. I hope it pushes this organization to spend a bit more on the draft, but i doubt it.
