I think Reid Detmers might be the most-realistic, best case scenario for the White Sox in the first round. He's pretty young for a junior, would move fairly quickly and offers upside while being a pretty safe bet. I wrote about him here: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/27/2020-draft-preview-reid-detmers-lhp/

Yeah it's really ugly. What Oakland is doing sucks but this thing has been reported incorrectly because lots of things are being reported incorrectly. Manfred froze the Uniform Player Contract for minor league players. It allows the Athletics to stop paying their minor leaguers. Reporters keep saying that they won't get paid for the rest of the season. That isn't necessarily true. If the league and players hammer out a deal and Manfred reinstates the UPC, then Oakland minor leaguers get paid again. It's still shitty for sure but at least those are the facts of the matter. They've met with him over Zoom and even talked money with his representation. If it's out there this much though, I'd bet on them going a different direction. Vaughn has the better hit tool but Torkelson has more raw power and in game power. Torkelson is the better prospect but they'll both be the #1 and #2 1B prospects in the game

Kelley went in the first to Cleveland.

Kiley McDaniel released his latest mock with intel on all teams: https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/29216982/kiley-mcdaniel-2020-mlb-mock-draft-20 He has Patrick Bailey to the Sox again. I will say this about it: I know that the Sox and Bailey's camp have talked money. 11. Chicago White Sox: Patrick Bailey, C, North Carolina State Chicago is looking for college bats, and Bailey fits this pick very well in terms of value and the White Sox's system. It's a common connection in the industry.

For Patreon Subscribers, I mocked all five rounds for the White Sox. I included write-ups, video and bonus amounts for those interested: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/25/2020-five-round-mock-draft-chicago-white-sox/

The issue with this is that the owners kind of have proof that the agreement from March didn't refer to playing games without fans. It's clearly right there in the documentation. Tony Clark is just bad at his job. The players got paid through May, convinced the owners to have a draft (albeit a sham of one) and they get their service time in a lost season. While focusing on all that, they missed the fine print. They need to and will negotiate a new deal this week. It sounds like the solution could be prorated salaries for players but deferred down the line a bit. Ken Rosenthal wrote yesterday that some owners want to just get started and pay the salaries and other owners don't. This is a fight on multiple fronts. While being mostly pro player, what these guys did to their future members in the draft makes it pretty tough for me to actually feel bad for them.

Yep. It's coming. I had a similar mindset to this when we had JJ Cooper on. I said the White Sox losing Great Falls wasn't that big of a deal if they could field two AZL and two DSL teams if allowed. JJ made a great point though. He presented this scenario: what if a player is great in the AZL for his rookie season and then the club promotes to Kannapolis for full season the following year. The player really struggles ad Kanny isn't the right fit. Do you send that guy back to the AZL for short season complex ball since there is no more short season rookie ball? You'd usually send that player to Great Falls with the intention of bringing back to Kannapolis soon.

I think they will. They have 5 picks totaling around $7.8 million. Those 5 picks will cost Reinsdorf a total of $500K this year. The rest of the bonuses are over the next two years. They should be expected to go over their pool if necessary.
-
Reinsdorf has a long history of hating draft spending and being cheap. They've spent close to 5% over their pool the last three years though.

Some of you know Steve as @NWI_Steve on twitter. He's kind of like a wrestling heel with White Sox takes. He joined Mike Rankin and I recently and it was a fun discussion. Listen here- https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/22/futuresox-podcast-steve-paradzinski-nwi-steve-of-on-tap-sports-net/

He's not listed because he hasn't been cleared to sign.

I think they'll have a deal sometime between Memorial Day and June 1st. There's too much money at stake not to.
-
There's a strong rumor that Bailey has a deal with the Pirates at #7 already.

ken Sawilchik wrote about Tyler Soderstrom for today. He's a high school catcher that can really hit out of California. He probably moves to 3B or the OF almost immediately however. Check it out here: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/20/2020-draft-preview-tyler-soderstrom-c-3b/

Bingo. He might not get there though.

I'm doing a mock draft for FutureSox and I'm gonna do all 5 rounds for Sox included in there. I won't give player names right now but I went like this: 1st Round: HS pitcher $4 million 2nd Round: College Pitcher $2 million 3rd Round: HS OF $1.2 million 4th Round College Infielder: $600K 5th Round College Pitcher: $350K

Any of them as long as 40% of slot value is offered.
-
Yeah they will have that right. They can sit out and not get paid if they want. They are entitled to that I'd think.

I haven't heard this specifically but I think the White Sox will try to prioritize Cespedes during this upcoming period. Then you worry about Colas later. Nobody else has money either and his Japanese club believes that they own his rights. If his situation isn't solved this summer, they could theoretically just sign Oscar Colas using 2021 signing money and push his signing to that period. There likely won't be any minor league baseball anyway so it's not a huge deal at this point.
-
I've had a tough time confirming anything during this pandemic. The White Sox have heavy rumored interest in Cespedes though. Today, Oscar Colas signed with Alex Cotto, the same agent that represents Norge Vera and Yoan Moncada. I'm not sure if it means anything but it's something to watch.

Maybe not that low but juniors will definitely get squeezed to take like $100K for sure. It's going to be ugly.
