  1. Here is the profile of Oklahoma righty Cade Cavalli brought to you by Jasper Roos: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/13/2020-draft-preview-cade-cavalli-rhp/ The White Sox are very fond of the Oklahoma program and Cavalli could be a realistic option.
  2. Patrick Bailey has been linked to the White Sox in multiple mock drafts this week. Our Ken Sawilchik profiled the switch-hitting backstop here. https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/14/2020-draft-preview-patrick-bailey-catcher/
  3. Most seniors will just take the $20K. Going back for a 5th year doesn't make a ton of sense. These college coaches have juniors that will stay and they have HS kids joining the team.
  4. I think canceling the season is the worst case scenario. It'll have huge ramifications on the 2021 season and into the future.
  5. I think they'd probably take Detmers or Meyer if they fell to them. I'd be pretty surprised if they took a college hitter though.
  6. I think lots of juniors will sign for $20K. They could go back and still technically be juniors but they lose lots of leverage being 1 year older. It's a 20 round draft next year but they could fill the 20 rounds without those juniors so they're competing to get selected again next year. Some guys may decide to just take the $20K and get into an organization if presented with that opportunity.
  7. There really isn't though. All three publications are guessing based on history of taking college guys.
  8. Baseball salaries are guaranteed but only if they play games. If they don't play a game in 2020, they don't see another dime.
  9. Sean Williams wrote about Minnesota right hander Max Meyer. He probably goes before the White Sox choose at #11 but this is what he would bring to the table: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/11/2020-draft-preview-max-meyer-rhp/
  10. Swing Kings is a great book. I had no idea that Joe Borchard basically led Craig Wallenbrock to Paul Konerko.
  11. I've been told that teams can pay for college, etc. The bonus is a flat $20K though.
  12. Kiley McDaniel's first mock at ESPN came out today: https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/29154256/kiley-mcdaniel-2020-mlb-mock-draft-10 11. Chicago White Sox: Reid Detmers, LHP, Louisville The White Sox are another team leaning heavily toward college options at this pick, though they've leaned that way in recent years for higher picks as well. Kjerstad fits here if he makes it down to this pick. It makes a lot of sense for the White Sox to add the Illinois prep product who could be big league ready right as the team gets to playoff contention.
  13. They can sign but only for $20K. They'll either go to school or play at JUCO next year.
  14. No. It means teams will play in their home cities instead of at spring training sites.
  15. It's still the American League and National League. The only thing that's different is the schedule. The Sox would play 12/13 vs KC, Cleveland, Minny and Detroit. And they'll play 6 games vs Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals, Pirates and Reds. It's 78-82 games. Then they will take 7 playoff teams from the AL and 7 playoff teams from the NL. Seed it 1-7 with division winners 1-3. The top seed gets a bye in each league. 7 at 2, 6 at 3, 5 at 4. Likely a DH in both leagues.
  16. Here's the latest proposal that Ken Rosenthal has obtained from MLB: https://theathletic.com/1804433/2020/05/09/rosenthal-latest-details-on-baseballs-plan-to-return/ It will be presented to the players this week. 78-82 game regular season in home ballparks. White Sox would play only teams from AL Central and NL Central. 7 playoff teams in each league.
  17. I think he'll be gone but it'd be an interesting decision if he's on the board.
  18. I'd break it up into tiers. It's going to be college heavy at the top. Spencer Torkelson, Austin Martin, Asa Lacy, Nick Gonzales and Emerson Hancock are the likely top 5. Zac Veen is the top HS OF in the class. Max Meyer is the RHP from Minnesota and Reid Detmers the southpaw from Louisville. So those guys are probably all gone but you never know. College outfielders Garrett Mitchell and Heston Kjerstad, prep righties Jared Kelley and Mick Abel and prep hitters Robert Hassel, Austin Hendrick and Ed Howard seem to be the options along with Garrett Crochet and Cade Cavalli.
  19. This isn't entirely true. The White Sox wouldn't take back Dontrelle Willis' contract in the trade
  20. Here is the 2nd draft profile in our series. It covers Tennessee LHP Garrett Crochet: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/07/2020-draft-preview-garrett-crochet-lhp/
  21. The financial aspect doesn't make sense though because they really aren't saving any money. The White Sox have $7.7 million to spend in a 5 round draft. In a10 round draft, it would be $8.8 million. Everyone after that was limited to $125K anyway. The owners are doing this to defer payments for two years and save a couple million per team. It's fucking stupid. And there are many stories like Paul Goldschmidt for example. He was an 8th rounder. What would happen to him in a year like this?
  22. An update tonight from Jeff Passan suggests that the draft will in fact be just 5 rounds
  23. The union turned down the latest 2020 Draft Proposal from the owners. The draft is still expected to take place on June 10th but that's all that's really known at this point. I wrote about the details and what it means for the White Sox here: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/06/the-latest-on-the-2020-mlb-draft-and-how-it-relates-to-the-white-sox/
  24. With our first draft profile, Jasper Roos checks in with Arkansas outfielder Heston Kjerstad: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/05/2020-draft-preview-heston-kjerstad-rf/
