Why? He got 10 years and $300 million from San Diego. We were all incorrect about Manny's reluctance to play there. He obviously does. The agent wanted to say he signed the biggest FA deal ever and they did. We shouldn't assume anymore that Manny would have rather played in Chicago than San Diego. That doesn't appear to be true regardless of how bad the Sox fucked up the negotiation.

From what I know the Sox were not told anything about a final SD offer. Sox made their updated offer Monday Night (which obviously wasn't close to good enough). They thought they were in a good spot. Lozano and Machado got the $300 million guarantee from San Diego and took the offer. At least that's how I thought it went down. The Sox misplayed the market. They got burned. But I don't believe there was some sort of back and forth where they were given the option to match an offer. They just lost out.

100%. They thought they were getting him. I'm obviously not privy to negotiations but they were pretty surprised. What they were told and what ended up transpiring were not the same. They still deserve to be crucified (the White Sox) but none of the "insiders" were throwing out nonsense.

I will say this: Shack is getting his information from multiple solid places. You guys can believe whatever you want though obviously. The constant craving and whining for information throughout this process and then immediate reaction to tell people who actually have intel that they are full of shit is quite ridiculous. Shack shared with the board to keep people informed. I told him: fuck that board. The majority of the people posting there now don't deserve the information anyway. This place is tiresome. There are some things in this thread that could be debunked but I don't really have the patience for it. Everybody could be united in being extremely pissed ta this organization right now. Instead, some of us like to criticize others who have legit info and call them "insiders". It's pretty lame.

Yes. Yes I am

Dude it's sarcasm.

Its too early to worry about it. Machado at 3B, Anderson at SS, and Moncada at 2B. Madrigal will start the year at Winston-Salem. It's a good problem to have that doesn't need resolution in 2019.
-
I don't share the same pessimism. I just don't believe that Machado wants to go to the West Coast and I also don't believe the Padres will significantly outbid the Sox. The Sox know how important this is. Could he choose Philly? Absolutely. I'd be pretty shocked if he ended up in San Diego though.
-
He's not going west. From a tax situation alone, they'd have to pay $30 million more than the Sox for the deals to be equal. He also doesn't like the west coast. I'd be stunned

Anyone think Kimbrel would be a good idea?

The Sox won't forfeit the 44th pick to sign a closer. The bullpen should actually be the strength of the team this year. -
Fathom you've been warned.

20 names total so far and nobody linked to the White Sox as of yet. Badler stated at the top that every team other than Atlanta will be active. Just because these are the 20 players mentioned, it doesn't mean these are the top 20 guys available. It's still pretty frustrating to see the Sox linked to nobody though since they've had two years to figure out signings for this class. Fangraphs has a piece out with some of the top names for 2020 and 2021 and it says many of those top players had agreements in place at the age of 14. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/updated-july-2-prospect-rankings/

After they sign Manny I think the best realistic outcome would be trading for Joc Pederson and signing Ervin Santana or Gio Gonzalez to round out the rotation.

Idea- Chicago Area SoxTalk get together @GRF for Eloy's home Debut
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would bet that he debuts on Monday April 15th vs Kansas City FWIW -
Manny Machado is a 26 year old with no $300 million offers. He's not going to willingly go back out on the market as a 27 year old with a QO attached. He's not taking a 1 year deal.
-
He was. It was like $1.2 million though.
-
True. Nobody wants to hear this but Paddy did identify Tatis (27th in the class) and pay him $700K He's almost major league ready though and 22 years old. I don't really see room in Chicago for him. They should be spending the $$ on 16 year olds.
-
I hope he signs with Baltimore. I don't have much interest in the Sox signing him.
-
Ok. I don't disagree with you. I'd just prefer to wait.
-
The White Sox aren't listed for any of these "top guys". Most of them are landing bonuses of upwards of $4 million. It'll be curious to see how Sox play this. They only have like $5 million to spend so they may just have multiple $1 million expenditures.

Hahn told us that they have commitments. I don't think this is an issue.

FS: A Top 30 Prospects Sub-plot: The outfield 5-pack
Y2Jimmy0 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good post. We discuss these topic at length when finalizing FutureSox lists. I put Adolfo first because he has the highest ceiling by far and I don't think it's close. I put Basabe next because of proximity to majors and he can play CF. I have Gonzalez 3rd. He's older than Rutherford but he can play CF and has shown more power. Rutherford holds steady at 4 for me but if you believe Walker can play CF then I would understand Rutherford being 5th. Those are the same things I look at. -
So basically someone guaranteed him $2 million if he waits until the next period. 29 teams don't have that amount of $$ left in current signing period. Baltimore has like $5 million. They can also get him to the majors quickly. I think he probably goes to the Orioles. People don't turn down money. That's what separates us from the animals.
-
It doesn't say that. It says Baltimore is the only team that can do that. That's not really true though either. Teams can still trade for available funds in this period.
